I hope everyone has had a great year. I will be sending out one newsletter for Summer School. Please stop by the Library Media Center at any time to talk and collaborate. 2 IN THE LIBRARY The following are available in the LMC ipad Cart 7 Nooks OSMO Snowball USB microphone Elmo MinecraftEDU 3D Printers Blue Ray player Wii Raspberry Pi Scratch Collaboration Table with large TV located Campus Room A130 Dictionary Thesaurus WebCam A130 for group Skype sessions. List of our Digital Resources MP3 Player Playaways LittleBits PLAYAWAY AUDIOBOOKS We have added 5 Playaway titles to our library collection. The titles are Ryamie Nightingale by Kate DiCamillo The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Door by the Staircase by Katherine Marsh The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate The playaway is a device that is preloaded with one book and nothing else. You will need either headphones or speakers to listen to the audiobook. These take 1 AAA battery. There is one battery in the case. When returning the Playaways please remove the battery from the device and place in loosely in the case. The Playaways can be checked out for 2 weeks at a time with two renewals allowed. In addition we have print versions of these audiobooks. They can be checked out for students to follow along. IPAD REMINDER Reminder that the student ipads will be reset at the end of the school year. The plan is to have them back in place for summer school. All data on the ipads will be lost due to the yearly reset. Thank you. 2
3 Sync Audio Books Yes, the SYNC audio books are free to download. A couple things to know. You need to download them during the week they are offered. Runs till August 17th Don t forget to download your copies each week. I have been downloading each week too. Only missed one week so far.. These will be available in the Library Media Center You need to have Overdrive already before trying to open the file that you downloaded. Once it is downloaded click on the file to open it with Overdrive. Once the download is finished in Overdrive you can play the file with it or any other MP3 player. You must click on the audiobook to ensure it downloaded fully! There is no downloading later if you loose your file. Back up your audiobook somewhere. Your audio file should be located on the computer you used to download. \Documents\My Media\MP3 Audiobooks. Once you locate your files you can copy and paste them to a flash drive and play on any computer with a USB NEWSLETTERS The Library Media Center Newsletters are available on the Library website at Page/439 Past issues can be downloaded from the website from anywhere. 4 LITTLE BITS NEW KITS School Library Services has provided us with LittleBit Kits! These are great for PBL projects or integrating into classroom lessons. We now have a large enough collection for a classroom to use. Multiple projects in a class can be created. UPCOMING EVENTS Summer School! New School Year! Follow the link to find out more of what LittleBits can do. Also there is an ipad app to give you ideas too. itunes.apple.com/us/app/littlebits-invent/id ?mt=8 You can tell it which kits you have access to and the app will show you stuff students can create with them. I have combined the kits into one box. The box contains a Deluxe kit, and 2 Student STEAM sets, plus a few extra pieces. 4
5 Recommended Summer Reading 2016 Attached you will find a recommended summer reading list for grades K-12. Books that have near the book title means that we have an audiobook available for that title. Books that have near the title means that at least one copy is part of the library collection. Students will be able to borrow these books during the Summer Reading Program. A blurb about each of the books can be found in the Library Catalog. A link to the catalog is at *These books may also be listed on the next school years Battle of the Books list. Students that would like to participate in the Battle of the Books next year will do so through their home districts.
