1 Dear Parent/Guardian, In an effort to reinforce literacy skills over the summer Andover Middle is requiring all sixth, seventh, and eighth graders to read books from the attached reading list. This includes incoming and transfer students. Students must complete the required reading as denoted by asterisks (*). In addition to reading the required book, please choose two additional books to read from the list. Credit will be awarded for all completed assignments through Language Arts and Reading classes. This Summer Reading program will help students develop a love of reading, increase vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension skills. Hence, this will fulfill our commitment for students to read a novel which is required each grading period. This reading initiative will also enhance academics and provide incentives for students upon return to school. In addition, one written assignment must be completed for each book read, for a total of three (3) assignments (the required book and the additional two books). Please note that the assignments will be collected by the language arts teacher during the first two weeks of school. Our Literacy Team trusts that you will encourage your child to read during the summer months. Please look over your child's book and activity list and remind your child that reading is important, interactive, and fun! We hope that you will join us in this important effort and assist your child in these summer reading activities. Please note books may be purchased at Barnes and Noble, checked out from the local library or online providers. Thank you and have a great summer!
