15 15 Keeping Things Working We hired a Wireless Network Engineer to oversee installations, monitor the sites and cars, fix problems, and provide reporting to senior management Constant monitoring to ensure trained officers are put in the cars GPS mysteriously get disabled Accountability at all levels Upgraded electrical at all of our sites CIC monitors alarms for fixed and (after 5 minute delay) mobile units

16 16 Finding the Right Users Hey Lisa, I just wanted to give you a heads up on another Tag Reader arrest I made. I was sitting in the 1700 block of Alabama Avenue SE just letting the readers do their job and I got a hit on a VA/XXXXX (tag changed). It wasn't a really exciting arrest she actually pulled over to let someone out and I approached and asked for information and she gave it to me and placed her under arrest. But, it is still an arrest for the tag reader!!

17 17 NVLS and the DC Experience Vigilant Video reps contacted DC Command Staff with a pitch for the NVLS including hits from surrounding jurisdictions They also provided a mobile unit that was installed on an MPD It cruiser We discovered they were capturing DC data from the LPR unit without permission; it was all supposed to be locally stored in the cruiser We directed them to scrub all DC data from their database When asked about how they got the data regarding wanted vehicles from MD and VA locations, which was clearly from NCIC, they said they got it from one of their clients but didn t have to tell which one When asked about their adherence to privacy and other standard policies, they said it didn t pertain to them because they are a private company They said it was just like if they called our CIC telling us they found a stolen car, but when asked how would they know it was stolen?, dead silence They were sent a cease and desist letter

19 19 Other Data Sharing We pull out Terror Watch List hits as a separate class and send an automated to our Fusion Center We provide most of our data through the CIC Trusted users from other agencies have access Negotiating MOU s with other state and federal police agencies for real-time access
