6 The Central Ohio Radio Club Newsletter CORC Presidential News Winter is here. This year has quickly gone by. I hope you have your radio systems, including standby power, ready to enjoy the airwaves this winter. This past year CORC has had tech nets twice a month on on Sunday evenings at 7:30 PM. Tony, N8RRB and Rick, WA3UOO, have done a good job planning these. If you have any ideas for topics let them know. Do check in, we know there are many who listen and don t check in. The six meter repeater continues to keep the technical committee busy. They try to make it a reliable repeater but it likes to keep them scratching their heads. It has now has multiple receivers at different locations on different receive frequencies. I want to again thank KB8UVN, Matt for an up to date presentation on packet radio at the October pot luck. For those wanting to make those last minute cash tax donations, remember CORC is a 501c3 organization. The club thanks you in advance for your donations. Here is an interesting fact: CORC s dues have not gone up in over 30 years! Membership is holding pretty steady from last year however Without NEW members and current members paying their dues CORC can t exist. PLEASE, PLEASE encourage users of the repeaters that are not members to become one in 2013! The next CORC potluck is Sunday, February 24, I hope you can make it so I can put a face with a call. It is always fun to have an eyeball with a contact you have made. Invite a non club member to attend as they are always welcomed. 73, Laura KA8IWB IMPORTANT REMINDER Page 2 From your membership chairman John / W8RXX Please check the address label on the front of THIS newsletter for your membership expiration date. Many memberships expire December 31, You can save the club money by sending your dues in NOW and not having a reminder sent. The membership application is on the other side of the mailing page with your label on it. If you don t have any changes, you need not fill out the membership application just mail that in with payment. If you have changes, please fill it out in full and mail in that page with your payment. CORC THANKS YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!!

U.S. Amateurs holding General, Advanced and Extra class licenses may use up to 250 watts input and A1 and F1 emissions in the band segments and MHz. These emissions include CW and RTTY operation. Voice modes are not permitted. - President Reagan Signs HR 3239, the FCC Revision Act o Word has been received that the President signed the bill on September 13, The bill has more impact on amateur radio than anything in recent history. Some of the major changes are: The FCC may now use volunteers in preparing and administering amateur exams The FCC will be allowed to use amateur monitors to assist in gathering data for prosecuting regulatory violations The bill has a plan to increase the amateur license to 10 years The bill also authorizes de-regulation of CB (no more CB licenses) The FCC is now authorized to establish minimum standards for RFI susceptibility in home entertainment devices Page 3

8 The Central Ohio Radio Club Newsletter Travelin Tony s Timetables by: Anthony Tony Fabro N8RRB Greetings to one and all! Best wishes to you for a safe and happy holiday season and for a prosperous 2013! The CORC Tech Net is well into its second season of topics. The net meets every other Sunday (more or less) at 7:30PM on the repeater (PL Hz). So far this year the net has tackled the topics of batteries, mobile installations, repeaters and station maintenance. Listen to the announcements on or , check the CORC webpage at or log into the CORC Yahoo group for a list of past and future topics. Rick WA3UOO and myself coordinate the topics for the nets. The net, while focused at talking about amateur radio topics in a more detailed technical manner, still strives to simplify the material when possible. We make the assumption that there is a broad spectrum of hams listening and/or checked in. They may be brand new hams or 20+ year veterans, or hams with a little technical knowledge to those who are true techies. We ve also found that there are a lot more people listening than who have checked in. We encourage everyone listening to check in even if you have nothing to add to the topic for the evening. Make your voice heard! Topics for nets are always welcome! Send any topic ideas to technet@corc.us and we will try to work them into a future net. In addition, if you feel you have a topic that you would consider to be a subject matter expert (SME) let us know. While the topics do not necessarily have to be about ham radio, they should be related to the hobby in some way. Thank you to everyone who has checked in and/or participated as a subject matter expert for the net. We hope you find the net interesting and educational. Have a safe day. Did You Know? That a database of all upcoming Amateur Radio Tests Sites are kept at: That Scott N3FJP has a web site where you can download many study guides and other Amateur related software at: That Handiham is non-profit organization that helps persons with any combination of physical and sensory disabilities by providing tools, technology and education to become effective amateur operators. You can find them at: That no matter where you live, you could end up in the middle of a natural disaster. You may not be able to salvage what you had, but with the ARRL Ham Radio Equipment Insurance Plan you can get the help you need to get back on the air. Insurance is available to protect you from loss or damage to your amateur station, antennas and mobile equipment by lightning, theft, accident, fire, flood, tornado and other natural disasters. Check for that and more! Page 4
