3 Radical Audio is high-tech for high-end. With its state-of-the-art RA13.2RF and RA16.2RF component systems, Radical Audio is truly pushing the envelope both technologically and in terms of audio quality. All components of both Reference Line 2-way systems have been radically redesigned. The mid/woofers have been given a completely new basket design, for example. It consists of die-cast aluminum with narrow ribs for optimal audio throughput and minimal reflections. The almost delicate basket design is deceptive, however: in terms of power handling, the Reference Line compos are among the toughest systems currently available. An internal Neodymium magnet contributes to the mid/woofer s clean, deep bass foundation. Its phenomenal drive is the basis for the system s high efficiency, compact design and reasonable overall weight. Special feature of the RF compos is the sophisticated RA28RF tweeter with aluminum housing, 28 mm Tetoron fabric dome and an ingenious symmetrical Neodymium drive for outstanding resolution, a low cut-off frequency and linear frequency response. The magnetic field and its gap focus via the pole pieces were optimized for absolute linearity and lowest distortion using FEA software. Achieving the ultimate in audio performance, living up to our own claim to perfection, and yet staying within the limits of a given budget was certainly no simple task for Radical Audio s R & D people after all, the RF systems have set new standards with their value and performance. But what could be more logical than following the lead of systems that were praised by the car audio press as sounding like a dream (autohifi High-End 2004) and as among best compo systems on the market (Car & Hifi 05/2004). The mid/woofer, as an example, is directly derived from its Reference counterpart, as is the high-tech die-cast aluminum basket with narrow, optimally streamlined ribs for maximum sound throughput and best possible ventilation behind the spider assembly. The fiber-reinforced, injection-molded cones with high inner damping, long-lasting butyl rubber surrounds and exclusive yellow Nomex spiders are further sophisticated details of the RA series. The most radical innovation, however, is the massive ferrite magnet that guarantees high power handling and excellent efficiency. But Radical Audio wouldn t be living up to its name if it was satisfied with a standard magnet motor design: the center pole features a copper Faraday ring to linearize impedance and suppress distortion of the magnet system. The RA series mid/woofers are not only as technically sophisticated as their Reference counterparts, their audio performance also satisfies the most discerning listeners. TWEETER The RA28 is the new high resolution tweeter model of the RA line. It is also a direct successor of the RA28R reference tweeter according to experts, one of the world s finest, most precise tweeters. Transparent, finely detailed high frequencies and perfect off-axis response: the RA28 comes with features such as a 28 mm Tetoron dome and an advanced push-pull Neodymium drive with a copper Faraday ring like its bigger RF counterpart, but is using an ABS plastic injection housing a cost reduction measure that does not affect acoustic qualities. Only the finest materials and workmanship were good enough here. The crossover is built on an glasfibre epoxy circuit board with thick copper strands to ensure that not a trace of sound is lost on the way to the speaker. The components are also first-class: lowinduction metal oxide resistors, XXP metallized film capacitors and quadrafilar air-core inductors guarantee musicality and precision. The crossover frequency of the 2-way RA crossover is set to 3 khz to allow high playback levels and ensure homogeneous sound from a variety of tweeter mounting positions. The high-frequency level can be adjusted in four steps, while two different levels can be set for the lower frequency transmission range of the tweeter for maximum flexibility in choosing installation locations. 6 7

It uses the same innovative speaker units as in the RA16.2 system: the 16.5 cm RA16 mid/woofer and the 28 mm RA28 tweeter. The RA50 features a new and very stiff glass fiber dome. With its soft suspension and internal damped cavity, the RA50 covers a very wide usable frequency range from 500 to 4000 Hz. The RA50 is based on a powerful magnet system using Neodymium rods arranged in a star pattern. A large central vent improves cooling and lowers Fs. The core components of both trunkboxes are the RA10W and RA12W woofers, audiophile by nature and of course, separately available. Special attention was paid to the workman ship of the enclosures. The high-quality enclosures are made of 19 mm MDF, featuring a rugged vinyl dress and acrylic fibre sheets that line out the inside.
