KG Level Radar BM 70M-Ex Description of equipment The Types BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges serve to continuously measure the product level in non-stationary and fixed process and storage tanks. The interior space of the tank may correspond to Zone 0, as defined in IEC A frequency modulated radar signal, with constant amplitude is emitted into the inner side of the tank or process vessel, by a funnel-shaped or tubular antenna. The signal is reflected from the surface of the surveyed media and received by the antenna with specified delay. With the delay of the signal the electronics calculates a signal equivalent to the fill-level. The output provides a standard signal 0/4 20 ma and/or a digital signal. In addition, the maximum values of the flange temperature are applicable subject to the following conditions: - that the level gauge is operated in its as-prescribed position - that the level gauge is not exposed to any heat radiation (e.g. solar radiation, adjacent hot plant parts) - that insulations do not obstruct the free ventilation of the signal converter housing. 5 Special instructions for safe use: 1. The BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges with terminal compartment in type of protection Flameproof Enclosure shall be connected by the means of suitable cable entry fittings and conduit systems, which meet the requirements of IEC , Sections 13.1 and 13.2 and for which a separate IECEx Certificate of Conformity has been issued. 2. Cable entry fittings (heavy-gauge screwed glands) and sealing plugs of simple design shall not be used in connection with a version having a terminal compartment in type of protection Flameproof Enclosure or type of protection increased safety e. Where the BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges are connected via a conduit entry approved for that purpose, the associated conduit-sealing device shall be placed directly adjacent to the enclosure. 3. Unused openings shall be sealed off in accordance with IEC , Section 11.9 and using Blanking Elements in compliance with Annex C. 4.The connection cable of the BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges shall be permanently installed and shall be duly protected against mechanical damage. 5. Equipotential bonding The BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges shall be integrated into the local equipotential bonding system. 6. BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges with flange system V96 in the version with heating and purging device. The end user has to assure, that the media temperature, when used in Zone 0, does not exceed 80% of the auto ignition temperature of the respective media () inside of the process vessel and does not exceed the maximum permissible flange temperature in dependence of the Temperature Class. The rated service pressure inside the vessel shall be limited to max. 6bar. 7. The BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges with flange system V96 in the version with purging device shall be operated such that when this equipment is used as Zone 0 apparatus the purging device shall be kept closed during operation or operated via a separately certified flameproof fitting. 8. The BM 70M-Ex Level Radar gauges with flange system V96 in the titanium version shall be installed such that when such equipment is used as Zone 0 apparatus, friction and impact between titanium and any hard material is ruled out. These notices shall in an appropriate form be enclosed with each apparatus. Page 5 of 5
