They are ideal for PMT, MP and radiation counter applications, or whenever less load regulation is required. 6 APPLIATION NOTES [ Normal Operation ] ase(blue wire), input(black wire) and output are not connected inside for models 6 kv and below. ase, input and output wires must be connected to the earth ground for safety. ase(no lead wire) and input(black wire) are connected inside for models 10 kv and up. Input wire must be connected to the earth ground for safety. Models 10 kv and up has no in below diagrams. Make sure the connection to the HV power supply is done as per the above diagram before operation. 2. Input the specified input voltage to the power supply to control the output voltage. 3. Models 6 kv and below of U3 series has no output discharge resistor. Add resistors for discharge when connected to a capacitive load. 4. Turn off input voltage when ending the power supply operation. [ How to read output voltage and/or output current ] A A V read voltage with current meter = 0.1 to 1 µf pass capacitor In addition to the above diagram, inserting resistor instead of voltmeter or ammeter and reading the voltage of the edges of resistor with DVM will work too. [ Parallel operation (to increase output current) ] R R R=1 k to 100 k This circuit is good only for identical models. Avoid parallel operation of different model. [ How to reduce the output ripple noise ] L L = 1 m to 5 mh(resistor will work too) = 0.01 to 0.1 µf( make sure the enough dielectric voltage for capacitor) [ How to reduce the influence to power supply by suppressing input ripple ] L onnecting to the earth ground shall be at one point L = more than 100 µh = more than 100 µf/35 V 06

7 [ In case there is not enough input voltage for desired output voltage ] < When larger load regulation is expected > With this circuit the noise on the power supply side will be smaller too. 10 µf/35 V zener diode can be used < When smaller load regulation is expected > 100 k to 500 k Add capacitors of approx to 0.1 µf on the output in order to reduce the voltage of output ripple noise.(make sure the enough dielectric voltage for capacitor) [ Floating Operation ] Models of 6 kv and below is input/output isolated type, and can be operated with output floating. ase(blue wire), input(black wire) and output are not connected inside for models 6 kv and below. ase and input must be connected to the earth ground for safety. Make sure the connection to the HV power supply is done as per the above diagram before operation. 2. Input the specified input voltage to the power supply to control the output voltage. 3. There might be common mode noise on the output when floating operation. Impedance of Ef shall be low. 4. Turn off input voltage when ending the power supply operation. NOTE These power supplies are designed and manufactured with safety of high voltage power supplies as integrated type. For extra safety, ground wiring must be done properly as per [Normal operation] and [Operation of HV floating]. Avoid output short circuit for long period of time. Do not touch the HV output wire right after turning off the power supply because there is a possibility of residue high voltage. Before touching the output wire make sure the output voltage is low enough, or wait for 20 minutes. When there is a capacitive load or load is open, discharge the load before touching the output as it can take a long time before the output voltage becomes low enough. 07
