3 Note the following WARNINGS and CAUTIONS when using Electric / Electronic Measuring Instruments. 1 Safety Symbols Caution Symbol on the instrument indicates that the user should read carefully the operating instructions in the manual. High oltage Warning Symbol on the instrument indicates that a potential of 1000 or more high voltage may be present on the Terminals. The user should use extreme care about safety practices. Maximum Allowable Ground oltage Symbol on the instrument indicates that the maximum voltage between INPUT Terminals and Earth Ground is 500 in this case. The user must not apply any voltage that will exceed the maximum voltage. 2 Warnings for High Power Line and High oltage Measurements The ordinary multimeters, analog or digital, are provided with maximum range of 500 to 1000 and. But, most of them are designed to measure Low Power Circuits such as Ts, Radios and home electrical apparatus. Therefore, to measure High Power Circuits or High Power Line more than 220, such as Power Supplies for Factory Equipments and Facilities, etc., do NOT use any ordinary multimeters. Use the instruments especially designed for High Power Line. High Power Line sometimes includes Surge oltage more than 10 times of the rated voltage. So, the Surge oltage will cause electric shock accidents when measuring with the ordinary multimeters. Even if the circuit to be measured is of Low Power, if the voltage is greater than 220, use the instruments with great care observing warnings and cautions written in the instruction manuals concerned. For Safety The International Safety Standard IEC61010 To ensure safe operation of measurement products, IEC establishes safety standards for various electrical environments, categorized as CATto CAT, and called measurement categories. These are defined as follows. CAT.Primary electrical circuits in equipment connected to an electrical outlet by a power cord (portable tools, household appliances, etc) CAT.Primary electrical circuits of heavy equipment (fixed installations) connected directly to the distribution panel, and feeders from the distribution panel to outlets. CAT.The circuit from the service drop to the service entrance, and to the power meter and primary over current protection device (distribution panel). Service wire CAT. Power receptacle Higher-numbered categories correspond to electrical environments with greater momentary energy, so a measurement product designed for CAT environments can endure greater momentary energy than one designed for CAT. Using a measurement product in an environment designated with a higher-numbered category than that for which the product is rated rated could result in a severe accident, and must be carefully avoided. Never use a CATmeasuring product in CAT, or environments. The measurement categories comply with the Overvoltage Categories of the IEC Standards. Insulation Cap for Test Lead Kaise conforms to IEC (safety standard for hand-held probes) by using test lead caps. Required standards : Exposed metal part must be 4mm or shorter for CAT I and III environments to prevent short-circuits from occurring. A product attached with the CE mark is designed so as to meet the requirements of the "Low oltage Directive" and "EMC Directive" of the EC Directive. Low oltage Directive: This Directive covers products of power supply voltage of () and (), and it defines electric safety requirements against shocks, burns, etc. The applicable standard is EN61010 corresponding to IEC1010 give on the left. EMC Directive: This Directive stipulates conditions so as not to give out strong electromagnetic waves from equipment to the outer environment and to protect equipment from the effect of electromagnetic waves from the outside. Traceability Chart Traceability to prove the compliance with national and international standards is an essential factor for measuring instruments used as test instruments associated with quality assurance.
