3 ELECTRICAL ANI~MECHANIcAL ENG?INEEKWG REGULATIONS Fig 2 - Station, Radio, UK/PRC 358 ROLE Primary : Secondary: UK,/PRC 351 Manpack station UK/PRC 352 Man-portable ground station The UK/PRC 351 and LTK/PRC 352 can be used with 'clip in' kits when vehicle mounted. In this role the station may be interfaced with vehicle harness, power supplies and antenna systems. Equipment replaced: SRA 41 and SRA 42 and in some roles SRB 47 and SPB 48. User Arm: General purpose at platoon and company levels. BRIEF DESCRIPTION UK/PRC 351/352 RF 351 is a v.h.f. manpack transmitter/receiver providing narrow band frequency-modulated telephony, with a remove control up to 5 lun and has rebroadcast, intercom and call facilities. 4 ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ENGINGEERING REGULATIONS Telegraph Adaptor the station can be used for 75 baud data and telegraphy. Hermetically sealed in a rectangular cast alluminium alloy case, powered by a 24 V primary or secondary battery. Employs transistors, integrated circuits and discrete components and uses frequency synthesis to give high channel accuracy and stability. Switched channel selection gives 25 khz increments in the range MHz providing a total of 1840 channels. Internal construction consists of two groups of sub-assemblies, transmitter and receiver, soldered to a mother board. Two antenna sockets are provided on RT 351. One permits direct attachment of whip antenna, the other permits the RT 351 to be used with other antenna systems, a selective unit r.f. 4 W and the 20 W r.f. amplifier. With the 20 W amplifier employed the station becomes UK/PRC 352. By virtue of its antenna requirements the 20 W amplifier section of UK/PRC 352 cannot be operated on the move in the manpack role. However the station may still be operated as a UK/PRC 351 in this role by switching off the amplifier and attaching the whip antenna to the RT 351. UK/PRC 352 must use either a ground mounted antenna or suitable vehicle antenna system. Amplifier 20 W r.f. The amplifier is powered by the RT 351 battery. It comprises a switched j-band r.f. amplifier. The design employs transistors and discrete components. Hermetically sealed in a rectangular cast aluminium case and can be carried on the same frame as the RT 351. Selective Unit r.f. 4 W The selective unit r.f. 4 W is a manually tuned passive antenna tuning and matching unit giving improved selectivity when used with the RI 351, thus enabling two such equipments to be operated in close proximity to one another. OPERATIONAL DATA RT 351 has six switched controls four of which are used for channel selection. Remaining two switches are: functional control having positions marked 0 (off), W (whisper), L (loud) * (noise on) and system control having positions marked L (local), R (remote), a (auto rebroadcast), I (intercom), C (call). The amplifier 20 W r-f. has only a band switch, marked OFF, TEST 30-40, and When switched to OFF transmission low power and reception are as normal RT 351 operation in the ground station role using a 50 R antenna system, the amplifier being only a signal path to and from the antenna. TEST position enables operator to check connection between RT 351 and amplifier. Remaining positions are for band selection. PERFORMANCE Station UK/PRC 351: Using - battle antenna (1.2 m whip) 8 km (5 miles) over average rolling Europe typical range is terrain in Western Station UK/PRC 352: Range of communication is increased than 16 b (10 miles). to typically better Clip in role: Range increased and varies according to antenna system employed.
