2 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Warranty Our Promise to You WeatherTRAK Product Series Warranty HydroPoint Data Systems Inc. warrants to the purchaser of its WeatherTRAK products, when shipped in its original carton that they will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for the time period set forth below. During the warranty period, HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. will, at its option, either repair the defect or replace the defective product or part thereof at no charge to the purchaser for parts during the warranty period. The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series has a five (5) year warranty from date of purchase. This warranty does not apply to any product which has been damaged, defaced, subjected to misuse, abnormal service or handling (including shipping damage), or which has been altered in design or construction. This warranty does not cover surface discoloration on stainless steel enclosures. Surface discoloration can occur from a variety of environmental conditions outside of HydroPoint s control such as windblown soils, water quality, and contaminants. The warranty described above is in addition to whatever implied warranty may be granted to purchaser by law. (All implied warranties, including the warranty of mechantability and fit for use, are limited to the period(s) from date of purchase set forth above). Neither sales personnel of the seller nor any other person is authorized to make any warranties other than those described above, or to extend the duration of any warranties beyond the time period described herein. The warranty described above shall be the sole and exclusive warranty granted by HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. and shall be the sole and exclusive remedy available to the purchaser. Correction of defects, in the manner and period of time described herein, shall constitute complete fulfillment of all liabilities and responsibilities of HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. to the purchaser with respect to the product, and shall constitute full satisfaction of all claims, whether based on contract, negligence, strictly liability or otherwise. 4 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Getting to Know WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 In this section, controller navigation and new hardware features are identified. Navigation The user interface incorporates five main functions: 1. The display 2. The menu buttons 3. The left v and right l arrow buttons 4. The plus g and minus buttons 5. The * button Figure 1 Controller Front Panel The controller uses a 5-line, 24-character display. The screen contrast can be adjusted in the SETUP menu for low and bright light conditions. The upper line displays the sub-functions of any one of the 4 main menu buttons as shown in Figure 1. The second or lower line commonly displays choices of values within each sub-function. The third line is commonly used to display alerts or identify abbreviations of Alerts. Pushing the left or right arrow buttons allows you to scroll through all of the sub-functions within a menu. Pushing the plus and minus buttons allows you to select choices for each sub-function. Pressing and holding the * button in some limited sub-menus within the SETUP, STATIONS, FLOW and MANUAL menus will display additional information. In the COPY menu the * button executes the copy function. Controller Hardware The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series delivers unique hardware features to simplify installation, field diagnostics and troubleshooting: Interchangeable transformer and ground lug location Easily removable command module without the need for hand tools. Modular Station hardware keys to increase or decrease station count. Station Output Design The numerical values correspond to the Figure 2 line drawing of the station output boards for faster recognition. 1. Heavy-duty push-in type terminal blocks; two inputs per station require no tools to connect or disconnect field wire. (This makes it easier to test station output voltage or resistance to troubleshoot wiring issues). Terminal blocks are on one horizontal plane for faster installation with multiple valve common wire terminations. A pump start can be assigned as any station output. 2. Dedicated flow sensor inputs and separate master valve output. 3. Corresponding station output green LED s for confirmation of valve operation during scheduled irrigation, manual operation or valve field wire integrity testing. A blue LED designates a master valve output when programmed. 4. Removable rain sensor and 24-VAC terminal block for faster field wire connection. 5. Station modularity that provides 6-station count flexibility by simply inserting a hardware key to activate additional stations. Additional keys can be purchased from HydroPoint or your local HydroPoint distributor. 6. Replaceable 3.0 amp slo-blow fuse protection to protect the transformer from field wire shorts. 7. Troubleshooting yellow and green LED s on the station input / output boards indicate 24- and 5-Volt power respectively confirming proper voltage has reached one or both station output boards. 8. 5 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions $ ^ & % Center Drill Points for Rain Sensor Mounting The bottom left and right outer sides of the enclosure have two sets of drilling center points. These drilling points are for enclosure mounting for specific Irritrol or Toro wireless or wired rain or rain/ freeze sensors. Two (2-qty) self-tapping stainless steel screws are taped to the inside of the enclosure to mount a rain sensor receiver when needed FL1 VC MV1 VC * FL2 VC MV1 VC Figure 2 Station Output Board Design Figure 4 Drill Points for Rain Switch Mounting Note: Station output boards and are identical, but do not support two rain sensors. Terminate the flow sensor and rain sensor wires in the station output board only. Note: Mount the rain sensor receiver on the opposite side of the transformer location to avoid reception issues for wireless models. Interchangeable Transformer The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 ships with the transformer on the right side of the enclosure. This enclosure design allows the transformer to be moved to the left side to accommodate electrical connections as needed. The mounting bracket is interchangeable to simplify relocating the transformer to the left side when necessary. Removable Command Module The faceplate or command module can be easily removed or slid down into a lower position by loosening the captive screws by hand. Removing the command module provides access to the rain switch input and 24-VAC source. Note: If panel removal is necessary, support it with one hand, then disconnect the cables with the other hand and set it aside carefully. 6 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Station Keys The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 incorporates station count modularity by using station keys. The station input/output boards are available in two configurations, up to either 12 to 24 stations or 12 to 48 stations. To increase the station count from 12 to 18 stations or higher, insert a station key into the station output board from left to right (see Figure 6). The station key will illuminate when activated. The controller will automatically discover the expanded station count within 30 seconds. Wall Installation Note: Avoid potential electric shock by confirming the AC power is off before starting this work. Wall Mounting Instructions Locate the 2 mounting holes on the back of the enclosure. The two upper mounting holes are keyholes. This design allows the two upper fasteners to be installed first. The enclosure is then slipped over and pushed down to complete the installation (see Figure 7). Use the enclosed blue-colored paper template to locate these holes accurately. Typical mounting height for a wall-mount enclosure is between 41 and 48 above a finished surface. Before drilling, verify that the controller is level and vertically straight before installing. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Remove the outer door to gain better access to the interior of the enclosure by sliding it upwards, then place it in a location to prevent damage. Mark and drill new mounting holes using the blue-colored paper template, then drill appropriately sized holes with a hammer-drill as needed. Use plastic inserts and mounting screws (taped to the controller with the enclosure keys) to secure the controller. Hang the enclosure on these fasteners and verify the enclosure is mounted level both vertically and horizontally. Locate the third center mounting hole and insert the last fastener. 7 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Connecting the Controller to AC Power The following wiring diagrams and instructions indicate AC power connections to both wall-mount and pedestal style controllers. The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series controller incorporates a dual voltage power supply for a wide range of commercial applications. The controller can be connected to a single phase 120V or single phase 220V source. The input side of the transformer has 5 color-coded conductors. A label is attached to the transformer body with identification for each conductor. Two of the conductors (specific to 220V connections) have been terminated with wire nuts, shortened and tied together with a zip-tie to avoid confusion for 120V installations. Note: Before making a connection to your WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series controller, disconnect the power to avoid electric shock. This installation should be made by a qualified electrician and should meet state and local electrical codes. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Step 5. Step 6. Confirm the controller has been securely fastened to a flat, vertical surface before starting this work. Open the enclosure door and locate the transformer mounted to the chassis. Thread an approved weatherproof plastic or galvanized metal junction box onto the 1/2 nipple and secure with a conduit locknut. Connect approved conduit to the underside of the junction box. Pull the required number of conductors and terminate them in the junction box with sufficient length so that wire nut connections can be made. Remove approximately 1/2 of the wire insulation of the conductor and use an appropriately sized wire nut based on the number of wire connections being made. Adhere to local and state electrical codes. The ground wire should be terminated with an appropriately sized eyelet (included on grounding stud) and secured with a nut with the integral star washer located within the junction box (see Figure 8). Figure 8 Typical 120 Volt Wiring Diagram Note: Blue and brown wires are tied off with a zip tie and wire nuts. Note: For 120 V wire applications, connect the following conductors from the primary side of the transformer to wiring from an approved electrical source (see Figure 8). The unused blue and brown wires are cut short and terminated with a wire nut. Note: For 220 V, single-phase applications connect the following conductors from the primary side of the transformer to wiring from an approved electrical source (see Figure 9) HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc. 8 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Note: When a wireless rain switch is used with a metal enclosure, install the rain sensor receiver outside the enclosure to ensure reception from a remotely mounted rain switch transmitter. Irritrol Wireless Rain Switch Installation Step 1: Mount the rain switch receiver where it can be easily accessed and observed. Note: Do not install a wireless rain sensor within metal enclosures where signal strength is diminished. Figure 9 Typical 220 Volt Wiring Diagram Step 2: Step 3: For wall-mount installations, route the receiver wires through the bottom of the enclosure into the interior of the enclosure. Deburr any field drilled through holes and insert a ¼ inside diameter rubber grommet to protect field wiring. Add a small amount of silicone sealant where the sensor wire enters the grommet for added protection. Avoid shorting wires from an open thru-hole without a grommet. A shorted wire can cause permanent damage to the controller electronics, an issue not covered under warranty. Locate the rain sensor input terminal block in the upper-left corner of the 24-station input/output board. This terminal block is designed to be removable to facilitate faster connection of rain sensor wiring. To remove, simply wiggle the terminal block side to side. Remove the rain switch wire jumper before installing the rain sensor wire. (See Figure 10). Note: Secure each ground wire with its own individual locking nut and integral star washer. The unused black and brown wires should be terminated with a wire nut separately. Rain Switch Installation The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series controller is compatible with the following manufacturers of normally closed wired or wireless rain or rain/freeze switches: Toro TM wired and wireless rain switches Irritrol TM wired and wireless rain switches Hunter Mini-Clik TM Hunter wireless Rain-Clik TM rain switches Rain Bird WR2 wireless rain switches The ET Pro3 series is not compatible with the following rain switches: Rain Bird Rain Check TM series Rain Bird Tipping Bucket TM models Rain Master Tipping Bucket TM models Water Conservation Services Rain Guard TM series Step 4: Step 5: Figure 10 Rain Switch Terminal Block with Loop Remove approximately 3/8 of wire insulation to expose the solid or stranded conductor. Confirm the lever of the screwless terminal is in the up or unlocked position. Insert the exposed wire and press the lever downward to lock. 9 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Step 6: Step 7: Connect the red wires to the 24-VAC terminals to red colored terminals. These terminals are not polarized; either wire can be inserted into either of the two far left terminal positions. Insert the white wire into the white terminal and the brown colored wire into black terminal as shown in Figure 11. Note: Confirm the lever has not clamped down on the wire insulation which can result in electrical continuity and operation of the rain switch. Connecting a Flow Sensor The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series is compatible with Data Industrial (Badger Meter) IR 220 series, Creative Sensor Technology and Netafim (using reed switch registers) irrigation flow sensors. To connect a flow meter: Step 1: Locate the six-position terminal block in the middle of the first 12-station output board and locate two inputs for flow sensing on the far right. These are labeled FL1 / VC and reflect the color of the recommended shielded flow sensor wire (see Figure 12). 24 Rain Rain Flow 24 Input Input Sensor VAC RS1 RS2 Step 8: Step 9: Figure 11 Irritrol Wireless Rain Switch Series Locate the rain switch transmitter within the manufacturer s recommended range. Locate the transmitter where it will receive rainfall without obstruction. Confirm communication to the receiver before mounting permanently. Test the rain sensor function by pressing the test switch on top of the transmitter for a brief period of time. Confirm the controller displays RainSwitch in the RUN menu when the test switch is depressed. Note: For other compatible rain switch wiring diagrams, please read the manufacturer s installation instructions for normally closed rain switches. Step 2: Step 3: Step 4: Figure 12 Flow Sensor Input Remove 3/8 of wire insulation and place into the appropriate terminal block by connecting the red wire to FL1 (or the + terminal) and black wire to VC (or the - terminal). Close or push down the terminal block lever. Consult the Flow Reference Guide in this packet for instructions on how to setup flow. Connecting a Hand-Held Remote WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series controllers come standard with handheld remote capability. Compatibility is simply plug and play with no additional wiring, software, activation or programming required. The WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series is directly compatible with the following hand-held remotes: RainMaster TM PROMAX-UA with 32 EX extension cable (sold separately) TRC TM - TR Commander or Sidekick Series (sold separately) Note: These products are available through local distributors and are not part of the WeatherTRAK product line. Both hand-held remote products are intended for portable use and require that the transceiver with antenna be located outside the enclosure to ensure consistent operation. The station LED s will slightly illuminate when the hand-held receiver is plugged in. 10 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Installation Instructions Note: If permanent mounting of the transceiver is required, install the antenna outside the enclosure. Both the RainMaster and TRC remote cables can be plugged into either one of the vertically oriented 32-pin connectors on either station output board, (see Figure 13). The connectors correspond to stations 1-24 or stations as needed. Note: For stations 25-48, you must enter station 1 for 25, 2 for 26, 24 for 48 using the remote interface. Manual Valve Test To ensure all field wiring is properly connected and all stations are operating properly conduct a field wire integrity test. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Press the main menu button to MANUAL. Press the minus button until the Valve Test screen appears. Press the right arrow button until the following screen appears: RUN VALVE TEST RTVT:OFF 00 SH 00 NC Faults Step 4. Step 5. Press the SELECT button, then press the * button to start the test. It will take about 15 seconds to verify continuity to all stations and the master valve. If any field wiring issues exist, they will be identified as a Fault. A valve fault could be SH (Valve Short) from a failing solenoid OC (over current) from valves drawing more than 1000 ma or an NC (Valve No-Connect or open) reflecting a broken wire or wire that is not making good contact in the corresponding station terminal. Activation Figure 13 Hand-held Remote Connectors Note: Hand-held remote kits can be purchased through your local irrigation distributor. Note: Functionality of either remote is limited to manual on/off, station up or down and master valve on/off. Follow the hand-held remote manufacturer s programming sequence when a normally open master valve is in use. Another alternative is to use the Maintenance Timeout feature found in the ADVANCED menu to open the master valve in ½ hour increments from ½ hour to 8 hours. In order to receive daily weather updates, your controller must be activated. 11 Cloud Update Key Instructions HydroPoint is proud to produce world-class irrigation control products. We are constantly adding new features and improving existing products. Firmware upgrades are always free, as long as your hardware is compatible. The Cloud Update Key is a USB device that you plug into a USB port on the back side of the controller s command module. The key enables the controller to receive firmware updates to occur from the cloud on an as-needed basis. The Cloud Update Key is for use on one controller, and must remain installed to maintain functionality. To get started, follow the instructions below. Installing the Key Locate the USB port on the back side of the command module. Insert the Cloud Update Key as pictured below. Close the command module door. Restarting the Controller After you plug in the key, you need to restart the controller in order to have it recognize the key. Press the Help button. Press the button until the Restart Controller screen displays. Press the * button to restart the controller. The controller will beep, and the screen will go black and then it will restart. This should take about 15 seconds. To verify the update, look for the Update Key Installed message in the bottom corner of the display. Affix the Cloud Updates enabled sticker on the lower right side of the command module. Note: If the Update Key Installed message does not appear or other issues are encountered, call customer support at

13 WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 Quick Start Programming Guide Date: Year, Month, Day Time: Hour (confirm am or pm), minutes Time Zone: Select your local time zone Auto Daylight Savings: Automatically updates controller twice a year, unless you press the button to No. Maximum Active Stations: Number of stations physically wired into the controller. Stack or Overlap: When Stack is selected, all programs operate one after another. The start time and water window for all programs is assigned to Program A. When Overlap is selected, each program can have its own start time and water window. See the Owners Manual for more detail. Activation or Help Call Customer Service The controller must be activated to receive daily ET information (local weather information). To speed up activation, complete the Activation card included with the manuals and other documentation before calling Customer Service. CONTROLLER MUST BE ACTIVATED to use AUTOMATED BY WEATHERTRAK or USER WITH ET. Programming Setup The following SETUP functions are optional: Master Valve: Select the type of Master Valve if used. Note: It is important to select None if a master valve does not exist. Selecting Normally Open or Normally Closed when you do not have a master valve may cause a Valve alert that can prevent irrigation. Assign Pump Start Output: Any station output may be selected. If a pump start is not required, leave this setting as Not Assigned. Runtime Valve Test: Default setting is Yes. See the Owner s Manual for more details. Max Backup ET: Represents the worst-case weekly ET for your area for the month of July. If you are not sure what this number should be, call our Customer Service 800 number for help. Days / Times In this menu a start time, water window and a water day mode can be assigned to one of four available programs A-D. If a pump start has been assigned as a station output, any one of three programs can be excluded from a pump start. Note: Check for STACK or OVERLAP (See SETUP for Stack or Overlap.): If Stack is set; programs B, C and D will have the same start time as program A. Programs will run sequentially starting with program A. If Overlap is set, different start times may be set for each program. The following SETUP functions must be setup for the controller to operate properly. Press the SETUP Menu button. Press the left or right arrow buttons to move to each function. Press the plus or minus buttons to change the underlined value. Exclude a Program from a Pump Start (only when assigned) Any one of three programs can be excluded from a pump start when a station output has been assigned as a pump start. The factory default is all programs are assigned to a pump start unless otherwise selected. This feature might be used when drip emitters and rotor use the same mainline but only one sprinkler type needs the added delivery pressure. Set Start Times and Water Windows Press the DAYS/TIMES Menu button. Press the plus or minus button to select program A, B, C or D. Press the right or left arrow button to SET STARTS/WINDOWS. Press the plus or minus button to set either High ET or Off. Repeat this procedure for each program used. 1st and 2nd start times cannot overlap and the maximum water window is 24 hrs. Selecting Water Day Mode Press the DAYS/TIMES Menu button. Press the right or left arrow button to WATER DAY MODE (for Program A, B, C or D). Press the plus or minus button to select one of the following seven water day modes: Optimized by WeatherTRAK: ET and individual station settings determine watering days automatically. Press the plus or minus button to exclude a day if needed. Odd/Even: Waters based on Odd or Even calendar days. Press the plus or minus button to select Odd or Even days. Interval: When Interval is selected, press the right or left arrow to WATER DAY INTERVAL. Press the plus or minus button to set the day interval. Day intervals can be set from 1 to 30 days. Days of Week: Uses a 7-day calendar Sunday through Saturday. Press the right arrow to move through each day of the week. Press the plus or minus button to turn days off or on. (Off days shown as a dash ). Days of Week by Month: Uses a 7-day calendar Sunday through Saturday for each month of the year. Press the right arrow button to Jan OK TO WATER ON. Press the right arrow button to move through each day of the week. Press the plus or minus button to turn days off or on. Press the right arrow button to move to the next month. Follow the above procedure for each month of the year. Off: When Off is selected, the controller will ignore programmed starts for the selected program until a different water-day mode is selected. Stations Individual stations are assigned to a program (start time(s), water window and water day mode), and station mode. There are four station modes to select from: Automated by WeatherTRAK, User w/ ET, User No ET and Off. Select the station mode based on the type of landscape to be irrigated. Note: The same station cannot be assigned to different programs. Programming for Existing Landscapes Automated by WeatherTRAK Automatically calculates run times, cycle and soaks for each zone based on zone-specific attributes. Daily ET updates then adjust the calculated run times to reflect current weather conditions. Run times will vary as weather changes. Note: To navigate through the next several screens, press the right arrow button to move to each underlined heading and press the plus or minus button to select a choice within each function. Select Station: Locate the station to be programmed. Select Station Mode: Select Automated by WeatherTRAK. Note: To Preview abbreviated Auto mode station settings for this specific station, press and hold the * button. Select a Program: Assign the station to a program that has a start time and water day mode. Use Water Window: If this station can irrigate outside of the water window, select No. Usable Rainfall: If a station is under a roof, heavy tree canopy or semi-porous roof, select either None or a percent of rainfall that is actually used. When None is selected, the specific station will water during Rain Pause. Sprinkler Type: Select 1 of 13 industry-recognized sprinkler types. When a sprinkler type is selected, a default precipitation rate and sprinkler efficiency value is automatically assigned. Both values can be changed in the next two screens if different than the displayed default rates. Precipitation Rate: Is how much is applied in Inches per Hour. Changing the precip rate will change run times. Lower Precip rates = high run times, Higher Precip rates = lower run times. Sprinkler Efficiency: Every sprinkler applies water with a specific efficiency based on its design and performance and spacing. If head or row spacing is stretched, efficiency is less. (Higher = less water; Lower = more water). Soil Type: Select 1 of 5 soil types determined by the USDA. Plant Type: Select 1 of 17 plant types that best represents the valve zone being irrigated. Root Depth: Press the plus or minus button to select root depth. (Shallow roots = more frequent watering; deep roots = less frequent watering.) Microclimate: Select 1 of 4 levels of sun exposure of the valve zone being irrigated. Slope: Select 1 of 5 slope gradients. The steeper the slope the higher number of cycles will be applied. Sprinkler Location on Slope: Select 1 of 5 choices identifying sprinkler locations on a slope. It then automatically increases or decreases runtime based on the daily weather information defined as ET. Select Station: Locate the station to be programmed. Select Station Mode: Select User w/ ET Select a Program: Assign station to a program (with a start time, water window and water day mode). Use Water Window: If this station can irrigate outside of the water window, select No. Usable Rainfall: If a station is under a roof, heavy tree canopy or semi-porous roof, select either None or a percent of rainfall that is actually used. When None is selected, the specific station will water during Rain Pause. Set Runtime: Set a desired cycle run time. Set Number of Cycles and the Soak Time: Select from 1-20 cycles and Soak times from 0 to 480 minutes in 10 minute increments. Reference ET: Set a reference ET that is appropriate for the schedule just set. The number you see in parenthesis is ET for the past week and is the value to enter as Part 1 and 2. Alternately, you can set the program you would run in July and use a weekly reference ET that is normal for your area in July. Other Stations: Repeat these steps for other stations assigned to this station mode. Programming for New Landscapes User No ET User No ET is commonly used for plant establishment periods when overwatering is required to establish new roots. Run times, cycle and soak periods are all user defined in this station mode. User No ET sets up the same as User With ET except there is no reference ET. Activation is not required for User No ET. Copy This function lets you quickly copy all station settings from any particular station to any other station or to all stations. Press the COPY Menu button. Press the right or left arrow button to select the station to copy from. Press the plus or minus button to select the station to copy to. ( All Stations is one of the choices.) Push the (*) button until COPYING is displayed. Repeat the process for each station to be copied. Maintenance Tips Manual Watering Stations can be operated individually with specific run times or all stations with one run time. Press the MANUAL Menu button. Select Specific Stations or All Stations by pressing the plus or minus button. Manual Water Specific Stations: Press the right or left arrow button to the first station you want to water. Press the plus or minus button to the minutes desired. The selected station will start immediately. To add more stations, press the right or left arrow button to the next station desired. Manual Water All Stations: Press the plus or minus button to the desired run time. Station 1 will start immediately, and all other active stations will follow sequentially for the same run time. Note: To stop a station that is operating manually press the OFF Menu button for 5 seconds then back to RUN. % Adjust - More or Less Water Adjust Water Amount Adjusts individual stations for more or less water. A 0% setting means there is no adjustment for that particular station. Press the %ADJUST Menu button if valve zone is too wet or too dry. Press the plus or minus button to select the station to adjust in 5% increments from -50% to +25%. Adjust Day Frequency Increases or decreases the number of days of the week per station when water is applied and does not increase the amount being applied unless ET increases. A 0% setting means there is no adjustment for that particular station. Press the plus or minus button to Day Frequency/Depletion. Press the right or left arrow button to ADJ DAYS (MAD). Press the right or left button to select the station to adjust. Note: Using either Adjust function adjusts ET or MAD which will adjust runtimes or frequency of irrigation. Rain Pause - Suspend Irrigation Pause Controller: This feature is useful for major rain events, scheduled activities or any other event where watering must be suspended for a set period of time. Rain Pause stops all irrigation (except manual watering). Press the RAIN PAUSE Menu button. Press the plus or minus button to set the number of days to be paused (up to 200 days). Preview This menu Previews programming changes of individual station data or Flow parameters (if a flow sensor is used and setup). Station Data Press the right or less arrow button to view station data. Press the right or left arrow button to change the station number and the plus or minus button to view projected water days (based on current ET) in one week increments from 1-8 weeks. Displayed station data includes run time, cycle and soak periods, station mode, % adjustments, projected water days on a weekly basis. Flow Data Press the plus or minus button to view Flow Data. Press the right or left arrow button to view previously setup Flow parameters. (If a flow sensor is setup and used). Manual Valve Test Manual Valve Test Function This feature confirms wire integrity between the controller and valves in the field. This test can quickly identify, on a station basis, where an electrical fault exists. Run Manual Valve Test Press the MANUAL Menu button. Press the right or left arrow button to RUN VALVE TEST. Press the plus or minus button to change from Skip to View. Press the (*) button to run the Manual Valve Test. You will hear the controller briefly send a signal to every station including the master valve. Press the right or left arrow button to view the first eight valves. Press the right or left arrow button to view additional stations in groups of eight.? means the test has not been operated and - - means the station does not have an electrical fault. This test cannot be run if any valve is operating. The Controller will identify a (SH) Short (current draw exceeding 1000 ma) or (NC) No Connect reflecting a broken wire. Viewing Solenoid Current Draw The controller will display the milliamp draw of any station solenoid in this test. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. Press the main menu button to SETUP. Press the right arrow button until the following screen appears: RUN VALVE TEST RTVT:OFF Skip 00 SH 00 NC Faults Press the minus button to change the word Skip to View, then press the * button to start the test. It will take about 15 seconds to verify continuity to all stations and the master valve. If any field wiring issues exist, they will be identified as a Fault. A valve fault could be SH (Valve Short) from a failing solenoid or an NC (Valve No-Connect or open) reflecting a broken wire or wire that is not making good contact in the corresponding station terminal. System Shutdown This feature can be found in the OFF menu when a catastrophic event occurs. This feature is not intended for winterization but will stop scheduled irrigation until emergency repairs can be made. Press the OFF Menu button. Press the plus or minus button to locate System Shutdown. The controller will immediately stop all scheduled irrigation and close a normally open master valve until reset by pressing the (*) button in this submenu. Note: Valve alerts must be cleared in the ALERT menu to ensure stations will operate. Failure to clear an alert could suspend watering. 19 WeatherTRAK Flow Reference Guide Flow Alert Clearing This screen provides a choice between (a) allowing the controller to automatically clear flow alerts at the beginning of the scheduled Program A start time, or (b) requiring the user to clear flow alerts manually. If manual operation is selected, irrigation will not occur on alerted stations until the field issue is found and resolved. If there is a flow alert on the master valve, all irrigation will be suspended until the issue is resolved and alerts cleared. Press the minus button to change this value as needed. Press the right arrow button to move to the next screen. Function WeatherTRAK Pro3 offers a flow monitoring feature called Learned Flow. This feature compares individual station flows against a previously learned flow value and will trigger an alert message if a defined flow threshold and delay period is exceeded. Setup All of the Learned Flow setup functions can be found in the Flow menu. To utilize this feature, a compatible flow sensor must be installed and setup properly. (See list of compatible flow sensor below.) Note: WeatherTRAK ET Pro3 series is compatible with Data Industrial IR series and Creative Sensor Technology flow sensor models in various sizes. To configure flow monitoring and learned flow functions, follow the enclosed sequence of screens and submenus. Start by pressing the Flow menu button. Measured Flow This screen displays measured flow at all times, regardless of how many stations are currently operating. If more than one station is operating (scheduled or manual stations), the display will indicate the combined flow rate. If no irrigation is currently operating, but flow is being indicated, the value may indicate a leak situation that needs attention. Press the right arrow button to move to the next screen. Set Flow Meter Size The choices of flow meter sizes are 1, 1.25, 1.50, 2.00, 3.00, 4.00 and Insert Type. Press the minus button to select the size that matches the flow sensor installed. If a flow sensor smaller than 1 is used, then select Insert-Type and enter the K and Offset value for the size being used as found in the manufacturer s installation manual. Press the right arrow button to move to the next screen. View /Edit K and Offset Values When a flow sensor size is selected, its corresponding default K and Offset values are displayed in two consecutive screens and represent PVC piping values. If another piping material is being used, these values can be edited. When edited, the controller will display the default and edited values for comparison. Note: If a flow sensor s K or Offset value is edited and a different size flow meter is selected, the edited value will replace the default value until revised. Press the SELECT button to edit. All characters can be edited including the + and - values. Press the plus or minus button to change the value and the right arrow button to move to the next value. Press the right or left arrow to exit the submenu. If using other compatible flow sensors as identified in the chart below, edit the K Factor and Offset values from the controller s default settings. Select Flow Meter Mode To initiate any flow monitoring functions, the flow meter mode must first be changed from the factory default setting of Off. This value is set in GPM. If two or more stations are being operated at one time, select a GPM that combines the station(s) with the highest flow rate. Station High Flow Threshold Two choices are available; 1) select a % above the learned flow rate. The % is applied to all stations globally. 2) Enter individual station high flow thresholds in GPM. Either method can be used for each station. No Flow Threshold Selecting a flow value at least 15-20% less than the station with the lowest flow rate will suffice. Reference the learned flow values to make this determination. Leak Detect Threshold If a site incorporates quick couplers, hose bibs or a fill pipe for a pond, select a threshold GPM higher than this demand. Setting a Delay Period This represents a time length of how long the controller will wait for flow to stabilize. When the delay expires and a flow threshold is exceeded, the controller will raise an alert and take corrective measures. The factory default period is 3 minutes. The range is 1-6 minutes in 1 minute increments. Edit Excluded Stations from No Flow Alerts In some applications the flow rate varies widely based on the type of sprinklers installed. In some cases the flow rate of the drip emitters is too low to be read accurately. The controller will operate stations, but will not be able to record an accurate flow rate and may falsely post a No Flow Alert. To avoid this occurrence, select stations to be excluded from No Flow Alerts. Press the SELECT button to view the first 8 stations. Press the plus or minus button to change the value from - to EX for exclude. Press the right arrow button to move to the next station or next set of 8 stations up to the controller s max active stations. Pressing the * button on these screens will alternate between selecting all stations and selecting no stations. Press the left or right arrow button to the end to exit the submenu. Setting flow thresholds accurately will reduce the potential for false flow alerts. The following rules of thumb are suggestions to reduce this occurrence. Taking a few moments to record each stations flow rate will provide a reference to make threshold decisions easier and faster. Set Mainline Break Threshold and Delay The mainline break threshold should be higher than the station(s) with the highest flow rate. For example if the station with the highest flow is 60 GPM, then 20% higher would be approximately 75 GPM. For thresholds of 30 GPM and lower, the GPM value can be set in 1 GPM increments, and for GPM values higher than 35 GPM, the increment is 5 GPM. Press the plus or minus button to increase or decrease the factory default value of 50 GPM. Press the right arrow button to select the Delay Period. This value can be changed by pressing the plus or minus button. Press the right arrow button to the next screen. Note: Any Flow Monitoring feature can be turned Off independently of other flow monitoring functions by pressing the right or left arrow button to the zero value, which will display as Off. Set No Flow Threshold and Delay The No Flow Threshold is intended to notify a user if a pump station fails, the backflow device has been shut-off, a remote control valve fails to open, or if an isolation valve in the mainline has been turned off. Set the No Flow threshold at least 15% lower than the station with the lowest flow value. Press the plus or minus button increase or decrease the factory default value of 5 GPM. Press the right arrow button to select the Delay Period. This value can be changed by pressing the plus or minus button. 21 WeatherTRAK Flow Reference Guide Set Leak Detect Threshold and Delay The controller will continuously monitor for leaks when irrigation is off and during scheduled irrigation with long soak periods when no irrigation is actually operating. The controller will simply post an alert of a leak, but the controller will not take further action. Use the Extended Leak feature to isolate the mainline when normally open master valves are in use. Press the plus or minus button to increase or decrease the factory default value of 15 GPM. Press the right arrow button to select the Delay Period. This value can be changed by pressing the plus or minus button. Press the right arrow to move to the next screen. Set Extended Leak Delay This feature is exclusive to irrigation systems that incorporate normally open master valves where a leak is detected. Corrective action is needed to prevent water wastage or property damage from saturated soil from a continuous leak. If a leak persists beyond the Leak Detect delay period and then beyond the Extended Leak Delay period, the controller will immediately post an Extended Leak Alert and close a normally open master valve. An example of how this works might be when a window washer connects into a quick coupler on the irrigation main to fill buckets of water in order to wash windows. Filling the buckets initially may cause a Leak Detect Alert. If the water is left on beyond the Extended Leak delay time period, the controller will take corrective action. The Extended Leak alert allows normal irrigation to occur as scheduled. If the window washer corrects the condition by turning the water off, the controller will automatically clear the alert after the next irrigation cycle. While remaining in the Leak Detect screen press the right arrow button to the field following + to select the Extended Leak Detect Delay Period. This value can be changed from Off to a selected value by pressing the plus or minus button. The range is minutes in one-minute increments. Press the right arrow button to move to the next screen. Set Station High Flow Offset % The station high flow threshold value can be set using a percentage that applies globally for all stations. The percentage ranges from 5% to 80% above each station s Learned Flow or Assigned Station Flow (ASF) value. The percentage value can be set in 5% increments. Press the plus or minus button to increase or decrease the station high flow offset %. Press the right arrow button to move to the next screen. Note: The Station High Flow Offset is used in the following Station Flow submenu. This submenu lets the user configure each station with a learned flow value using the offset, or with a specific user-defined threshold GPM. View Station Flow In this submenu the controller will display a learned flow value or Assigned Station Flow (ASF) for each station. This value can be (a) a value measured during learning, or (b) a user-defined value. If the station screen displays Unk, the value is not learned or user-defined, and is unknown. Use the arrow buttons and plus and minus buttons to navigate as follows: If the Assigned Station Flow is to be edited, press the plus or minus buttons to set a user-defined value. If a value has been learned and the ASF is not currently the learned value, this will be indicated on the third display line. The learned value can be set by pressing the * button. Press the right arrow button to select Station High Flow Threshold (SHFT). This value can be set to (a) the ASF value plus the Offset set previously, or (b) a user-defined value. Press the plus or minus button to set a user-defined value. If the ASF value is not Unk, pressing the * button sets SHFT to the ASF plus offset value. Press the right arrow button to move to the next station. Learning Station Flow Select Stations to Learn Flow This submenu lets the user select stations on which to Learn Flow. The factory default is No Learn Stations. Learning each station s flow rate is required for the controller to operate, store and then compare for accurate flow monitoring. One or more stations can be selected. Pressing the * button will alternate between selecting all stations and selecting no stations. Note: If a station s flow rate has been previously learned, the controller will only display the most recently learned value. The global station offset percentage is applied to this value. To select a station to Learn Flow, press the SELECT button to view the first 8 stations. Press the plus or minus button to change the value under the corresponding station number of to LF for Learn Flow. Press the right arrow button to move to the next station. Repeat this process as often as needed. Press the right or left arrow button to the end (in either direction) to exit the submenu. Set Delay Before Learning This delay time corresponds to how long the controller will allow flow to stabilize before recording a station s learned flow value. Another way to think about this is selecting the stations run-time. This is a global setting applied to all stations that are learning. If some stations require a longer delay period to ensure accurate recording, they will need to be learned separately with a longer delay period. Allowing too little time for learning could lead to false High Station Flow Alerts.
