I recommend that you take a look at his website at: Have you been making Sporadic-E contacts on 6 meters yet? The annual summer Sporadic-E season normally starts around May 1. I made my first contact this year with a New Mexico station on May 4, which was about 2 weeks earlier than in I like to watch: Lan=E&Frec=50&ML=M&Map=NA to see how the 6 meter band is doing. Note that you can also check the 10 meter, 2 meter, and 70 cm bands at this same website. June kicks off the summer operating activities. Membership Dues: Dues are $10 for first member of a family and $3 each additional member per calendar year if paid between Jan. 1 and March 1. This included three pouches containing all of my backup batteries, speaker mics, headset mics, original manuals, spare antennas and connectors and mobile power supplies.

3 This Month Hero s /Gambinos CLUB MEETING: May 28, 2010 Supper at 6:30 Meeting at 7:30 Bob Blankenau Becomes Silent Key It was before my time, but I understand that many Lincoln hams will remember Bob Blankenau, ex-wbøqix, who used to be the auctioneer at the Lincoln Amateur Radio Club Auctions. Bob passed away on April 25, 2010, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk. Extracting from his obituary: He was born March 23, 1932, in Dodge to Frank and Margaret Rueschoff Blankenau. He grew up in Dodge and attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Grade School and graduated with the class of 1949 from Dodge Public School. He continued his education at Creighton University, graduating with a degree in business administration in He then joined the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He married Arlene Bos on Oct. 2, 1956, in Howells. The couple lived their married life in Dodge. Bob ran the family business, Blankenau Motor Company, a Ford dealership established by his father, until retiring in Our condolences to his friends a family. I will not trust the cluster and will be sure of the DX station s call sign before calling 4. I will not interfere with the DX station, nor anyone calling him and will never tune up on the DX frequency, or in the QSX slot 5. I will wait for the DX station to end a contact before calling him 6. I will always send my full call sign 7. I will call and then listen for a reasonable interval. I will not call continuously 8. I will not transmit when the DX operator calls another call sign not like mine 9. I will not transmit when the DX operator queries a call sign not like mine 10. I will not transmit when the DX station calls other geographic areas than mine 11. When the DX operator calls me, I will not repeat my call sign unless I thinks he has copied it incorrectly 12. I will be thankful if and when I do make contact 13. I will respect my fellow hams and conduct myself so as to earn their respect. Nebraska Ham Radio License Plates Get New Look I am very pleased to announce that through the hard work of Bob Mitchell, WBØRJJ, our Section State Government Liaison, Nebraska will be issuing new amateur radio "call plates" starting in Betty Johnson, Administrator of the Driver and Vehicle Records Division of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles was very supportive and let us know this week that the plates were official. 4 Page 4 PARC School Demonstration In North Bend The annual Pioneer Amateur Radio Club (PARC) Amateur Radio School Demonstration was held at the North Bend, Nebraska Elementary School on April 22 and 23 for one hour each day. The students were fourteen 5th and 6th graders who had selected Amateur Radio as a subject they would like to learn more about. The students had several fields they could choose from, including chess and guitar playing. The demonstrators this year were Steve, KFØMS and me, WØNRW. We spent approximately 1/2 hour each day explaining Amateur Radio and answering questions and the other 1/2 hour trying to make contacts on the 20 meter and 40 meter amateur bands. The bands for the most part were noisy with weak signals, especially on 40 meters where we didn't make any contacts. On Thursday, I was able to contact John, KCØKKE a fellow PARC member across the river near Morse Bluff, and Larry, KØCL/7 in Utah who was returning from a DX Convention. On Friday, Steve made a very nice contact (and by nice I mean a strong signal) with Rick, AA1KS on Moose Island just off the coast of Maine in the Bay of Fundy. And then Steve hit the jackpot by working Euvgen, UW5ZM from the Ukraine. The school has a Smart Board so I was able to quickly call up UW5ZM on QRZ.com so the students could see who Steve was working. Two of them also quickly found the Ukraine on a large CQ Zone Map I had fastened to the wall. It was a neat teaching moment. The attached pictures show the G5RV antenna that was installed by Rich, KBØARZ and Jane, KBØZUN, who is also a teacher at the school. Also in the pictures are the students, the rig, KFØMS in the light shirt, and me in the dark shirt.
