3 AUGUST 2018 The Peanut Whistle Volume 28 No 8 Page 3 ARCPC MEETING MINUTES Minutes of the Regular Monthly Meeting Amateur Radio Club of Parker County Tuesday, August 14, 2018 The brief meeting coinciding with our annual Ice Cream Social was called to order at 7:20 pm by President Thad Weikal, KG5ATD, at the Parker County Emergency Management (EOC) Building, 215 Trinity Street, Weatherford. The invocation was given by President Thad Weikal KG5ATD. Daryl Pate, KC5SLQ, afterwards led in the Pledge of Allegiance and Pledge of Allegiance to the Texas State Flag. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Introductions: President Thad Weikal initiated introductions around the meeting tables. A total of 12 members were present for the meeting and at least 8 visitors. Meeting minutes: A motion to approve the minutes, as amended in the newsletter, from the June meeting as published in the July monthly newsletter was made by Will Teague, W5KD. The amendments were explained at the meeting. The motion was seconded by John Nickel, KG5YMK. Motion passed. Net control: Our net controls will alternate between Tom Keifer, KG5PBP, and Matt Sanders KC5KQU. GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS AND NEW BUSINESS: Daryl Pate reminded the club that we need to start thinking about the Texas QSO Party at the end of September. Also there was made mention of October 6 ham radio class at Weatherford College. We also briefly spoke about our planned Hamfest November 10 th. TRAINING & ADJOURNMENT: A motion to adjourn was given by Jerry Thompson, W7JT, and seconded by a John (either John Nickel, KG5YMK or Jon Engels, KB5ECS), and we adjourned. Although Amateur Radio operators get involved for many reasons, they all have in common a basic knowledge of radio technology and operating principles, and pass an examination for the FCC license to operate on radio frequencies known as the "Amateur Bands." These bands are radio frequencies allocated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by ham radio operators. Who is the Typical Ham? Amateur Radio operators come from all walks of life -- doctors, students, kids, politicians, truck drivers, movie stars, missionaries and even your average neighbor next door. They are of all ages, sexes, income levels and nationalities. Whether through Morse Code on an old brass telegraph key, voice communication on a hand-held radio or computerized messages transmitted via satellite, all hams use radio to reach out to the world.
