2 Introduction This document is intended as a design-in guide for users of the ICEpower200AC module. This document is to be used in conjunction with the ICEpower200AC Datasheet, which contains details on specifications, pinconfiguration and measurements. Since no two applications are alike, the recommendations of this document can only serve as a general guideline for your specific design. A key point of this document is that when dealing with high-power switching technologies, you are facing a design challenge regarding proper wiring to ensure that the final product is in compliance with standards on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). These challenges can be overcome by means of proper module mounting, simple shielding in very compact designs and, most importantly, proper cabling routing. The ICEpower200AC module can be powered by a number other ICEpower modules. If you design with other ICEpower modules, please also refer to the designer s manual for these modules, as this application note is focused on the ICEpower200AC module. 3 Configurations The ICEpower200AC is intended as a hanger module to be powered by the ICEpower DC Bus integrated in the ICEpower200ASC module as well as the ICEpower250ASP and ICEpower500ASP modules. These modules can power up to two additional ICEpower200AC amplifier modules from the integrated power supply. This full compatibility with the ICEpower200AC modules offers a flexible and powerful building block concept for multiway and multi-channel audio system design. Two types of wiring diagrams are shown: Test-setup wiring diagram for use in laboratory tests. Application-setup wiring diagram when designing with preamp and/or active cross-over Important: Use shielding between modules or keep distance between modules to avoid cross-talk between the amplifier channels. 3/12

8 EMC Do s and Don ts EMI is emitted from any cable carrying RF currents. This chapter describes some guidelines to help reduce EMI in an ICEpower system. Loops conducting RF currents emit EMI. It is important that speaker cables are twisted, shielded or at least run closely paralleled to reduce the loop area as much as possible. The same applies to mains and internal power supply cables as well as signal cables. Amplifier Amplifier Amplifier Amplifier PGND Shield optional capacitor for HF connection of the loudspeaker basket Note: When using shielded loudspeaker cable, the shield should not be connected directly to the basket of the loudspeaker. Loudspeakers may short the voice coil to the basket during heavy load resulting in damage to the module due to the short to ground. This can be avoided by making the connection to the basket through a small capacitor. 8/12
