5 Section 1 GENERAL 1.1 Introduction The manual describes the Junction Box JB6101-(000) of the BECKER Digital Voice Communication System DVCS6100. The manuals DV ( Installation and Operation ) and DV ( Maintenance and Repair ) contain the following sections: Section DV DV General X N/A 2 Installation X N/A 3 Operation X N/A 4 Theory of operation N/A N/A 5 Maintenance and Repair N/A N/A 6 Illustrated Parts List N/A N/A 7 Modification and Changes N/A N/A 8 Circuit Diagrams N/A N/A 1.2 Application The Junction Box JB6101-(000) is a part of the Becker Audio System and suitable for installation in an aircraft. It serves to match the corresponding equipment and system to the Digital Voice Communication System DVCS General Description The JB6101 contains twice the relay switch over for NORM/MASK and Hand Mike operation. The JB6101 provides the activation of the third intercom circuit for six operators. Two CVR audio output channel. Two FDR discrete outputs. Pilot and Copilot switch over for Slaved Mode Operation. The Junction Box is accommodated in a rugged metal case. The front plate contains two 50-pins connectors for connecting the System wiring. By means of the corresponding tray, the junction box secured to the aircraft. Four screws are used to secure the unit. DV /.04 Issue 1 06/2012 Page 1-1

11 Section 2 Installation 2.1 General The installation of the Junction Box depends on the type of aircraft and its equipment. For this reason, only generally applicable information can be provided in this section. Before installing the Junction Box in an aircraft, a visual inspection should be carried out in order to determine any damage which the unit may have incurred during transport, paying particular attention to the following defects: 1. Dirt, dents, scratches, corrosion, broken securing elements on casing and casing parts. 2. Dirt and scratches on nameplate, front panel and markings. 3. Dirt, bent or broken pins, cracked unit connector element. 2.2 Mechanical Installation The Junction Box must be installed in a suitable position in the aircraft. Usually this will be the avionic compartment. Refer to Fig. 2-1 for the installation dimensions of the Junction Box. After being slid into a tray, the Junction Box is fastened in place with one screw General Information The aircraft wiring of the Junction Box differs depending on the type of aircraft and equipment. For this reason, only generally applicable information can be provided. NOTE The Signal lines should be shielded and twisted if necessary and provided with a common shield for uncertain EMC conditions. Particular attention should be paid to good ground arrangement (supply voltage ground, audio ground) from a central ground point. Ground loops must be avoided. 2.3 Unpacking the Equipment and Preparation for Installation Carefully unpack the equipment. Visually inspect the package contents for signs of transport damage. Retain all packaging material in case of reshipment is necessary. 2.4 Continued Airworthiness Maintenance of the JB6101-(000) is on condition only. Periodic maintenance of this product is not required. DV /.04 Issue 1 06/2012 Page 2-1
12 2.5 Aircraft Wiring General The location of plug and socket is shown in Fig The following points are to be observed for the wiring: Only cable fit for aviation (self-extinguishing) shall be used. AWG 20 for power supply and AWG 24 for other cables. For chassis ground strap shall be used AWG 20 with a cable clamp The interface lines are each to be laid as 2-core twisted and screened (AWG 24) cables. Every single cable harness of a unit connector must have separate screening. Rubber sleeves are to be fitted over the soldering points on the unit connector. No RF cable should be included in the cable harnesses. Laying connecting cables together with cables which carry AF power or impulses is to be avoided. Check the wiring carefully before switching on the units. Page 2 2 DV /.04 Issue 1 06/2012

41 Section 3 OPERATION 3.1 General Description Information in this section consists of functions and operations for the Junction Box JB6101-(000) The JB6101-(000) does not have any operator accessible controls. 3.2 Functions The Junction Box contains the relay switch over for NORM/MASK and Hand Mike operation. The activation for switch over can be realized by a external switch or by use of the ACU6100-X-(XXX5) so called Fixed Wing Panel. These functions are for two operators. Refer to Fig. 2-5 Pilot and Copilot switch over for Slaved Mode Operation. Refer to Fig. 2-6 The JB6101 provides the activation of the third intercom circuit for six operators. It is possible for each operator to set or reset the third intercom circuit. Refer to Fig. 2-7 and Fig. 2-8 Two identical CVR audio output channels provide adjustable V output level. Refer to Fig The JB6101 contains diodes to route the of two operators to one or two individual FDR output. These are discrete lines and can be optional connected together, if only one output is needed. Refer to Fig. 2-9 JB6101-(000) DV /.04 Issue 1 06/2012 Page 3-1
