Test & Measurement, Embedded Computing, Life Sciences, and MRO Marketplace and B2B Solutions SDVOSB & HUBZone Small Business N9040B RF Signal Analyzer Highlight WHITE PAPER: TWP015 Claude Sweeton Sr. Sales Engineer TEVET Today's testing environments are challenging and constantly changing. What worked yesterday can easily be old news tomorrow. For you to continue to be an innovation leader, you need powerful equipment that is dependable, configurable, and compatible with multiple platforms. TEVET and Keysight Technologies understand that you want to make purchases which not only address today's test application, but also provides the flexibility to meet future test requirements. Which is why we provide you with the solutions that will keep you on the edge of innovation today, tomorrow, and into the future. N9040B UXA RF SIGNAL ANALYZER Engineering is about connecting ideas and solving problems; this is what drives Keysight's X-Series Spectrum Analyzers. The UXA Series offers benchmark RF analysis, performance, and puts you closer to the answer by easily linking cause and effect. You can perform most tests in 2-steps or less by using the streamlined, multi-touch user interface. When combined with Keysight's industry-leading VSA software, which supports more than 75 signal standards and modulation types, the UXA Series will accelerate your designs and ensure that you can measure any signal. The UXA Series, with its 14.1-inch screen, enables you to see more and delivers deeper views of elusive wide-band signals. You will fully understand the purity of your design with industry-leading phase noise and wide spurious-free dynamic range. The ultimate performance of the UXA Series lets you characterize today's most challenging signals: Communication Systems - 5G, ax/ay, LTE, W-CDMA Satellite Radar Electronic Warfare AS9120B ISO 9001:2015 DUNS: NAICS:
N9040B BANNER SPECIFICATIONS Frequency Range This is the specific range of frequencies over which the signal analyzer will operate. Not only is it important to find a spectrum analyzer that will cover the fundamental frequencies of your application, but it should also provide for harmonics or spurious signals on the high-end as well as the baseband and IF signals on the lowend. N9040B Frequency Range: 2Hz - 50GHz individually, or, up to 90GHz when paired with a M1971E Smart Mixer 2Hz - 50GHz Frequency Range Up to 90GHz Frequency Range Paired with M1971E Setup 10MHz Ref Out SMA Cable USB Cable BNC Cable 10MHz Ref In
Wide-Band Analysis N9040B provides 1GHz of analysis bandwidth on its own. However, if your application requires even more analysis bandwidth, Keysight offers a solution - the N9040B's wide-bandwidth IF output paired with the highdynamic range of Keysight's Infiniium S804A and powerful VSA software to deliver a wide-band, highdynamic range signal analysis solution at an affordable price. This solution does not require an external stimulus - correction data is exported from the X-Series analyzer to the VSA software. This eliminates time consuming calibrations for acceptable measurement results. Correction data is quickly loaded when the user changes center-frequency and span. Then the full analysis capabilities of the VSA can be utilized. The corrections contain both amplitude and phase information. This enables the VSA to make accurate analysis of chirp linearity, signal modulation for cell phone networks, or even custom modulation. 1GHz Analysis BW Internally Extend IF Analysis up to 5GHz Paired with S-Series Setup Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL) It is a fact that all RF receivers, including the one within a spectrum analyzer, add some level of internally generated noise. This is an important factor to consider when choosing a spectrum analyzer, as it indicates how well it will measure small signals. If you cannot measure it, you cannot manage it. Spectrum analyzers typically specify this internal noise as its Displayed Average Noise Level (DANL). N9040B DANL: 174 dbm at 2GHz with Preamplifier and Noise Floor Extension turned on
Transient Signals and POI RF signals that are challenging to detect are transient signals. They only occur for extremely short durations. These signals are very common in Electronic Warfare scenarios when the enemy attempts to hide their existence. To detect transient signals, you must use a spectrum analyzer with a real-time spectrum analysis feature. N9040B POI: µs Spurious Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) This range is defined as the dynamic range between the fundamental signal and the largest spur. N9040B SFDR: 78 dbc nominal over 510 MHz bandwidth N9040B with X-COM IQC5255B Gap Free Recording and Analysis LAN X-COM Systems IQC5255B LVDS PCIe A turnkey, RF streaming solution from Keysight and X-COM Systems simplifies recording and analysis of elusive and intermittent signals. On an electronic battlefield, the frequency spectrum is crowded, chaotic, and complex. The ability to fully understand signal behavior in a real-world environment is crucial as you design and validate the latest radar and Electronic Warfare systems. The Keysight N9040B UXA enables streaming of I/Q data at up to 255 MHz real-time to the X-COM IQC5255B signal record and playback system. Application Note:
AUTHOR Claude Sweeton, Sr. Sales Engineer Has worked at TEVET for over 9 years and has over 40 years of Aerospace & Defense / Test & Measurement experience. His experience began in 1978 when he joined the US Navy. While serving, he attended many technical schools including: Basic Electronics & Electricity School, Advanced Electronics (A School) - Radar, Calibration & Precision Metrology (PMEL) at Lowry AFB, and C-7 EE & Supervisory Level School. His primary responsibility was to maintain the advanced communications, radar, sonar, and weapons systems on SSNs and SSBNs. Upon his honorable discharge in 1986, he was hired by Texas Instruments Avionics Division (now part of Raytheon) where he provided technical support on the AGM-88 High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) and AN/AAQ-13 & AN/ AAQ-14 LANTIRN Missile Systems, and Emitter Locating System (ELS). In addition to his experience in Aerospace & Defense, he has worked at Sandia National Labs, Saudi Ordnance & Maintenance Company, Hewlett Packard, Anritsu, Gnubi Communications (now part of EXFO), and TEVET. TEVET is a certified HUBZone and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned small business. With 2018 sales projected at $200M; TEVET is a successful, safe, small business. There are 480 small businesses with the combined SDVOSB and HUBZone classification. There is only one small business with revenues that exceed $25 million; which puts TEVET in a class all of its own. TEVET takes the HUBZone classification seriously, for every dollar spent with TEVET, we take a portion of it and put it to meaningful use through our multiple socioeconomic engagements. Strengthening families, employees, and the communities we serve is at the very core of TEVET's mission.
