1 Ultrasonic Hand-Held Welding System 2000LPe Series The 2000LP family of low power systems are Branson s latest offering for applications with power requirements of 500 Watts or less. The 2000LP utilizes Branson s closed loop amplitude control to provide maximum process control. The LPe model provides continuous, time, and energy welding modes. It is also available with an optional factory-installed ground detect. Three frequencies are available: 20kHz at 150 and 500 Watts, 30 khz at 500 Watts and 40 khz at 500 Watts. The 2000 Series hand-held ultrasonic welders are compact, lightweight tools either used to spot weld/stake large, complex parts and those with hard-to-reach joint areas or for small series production. KEY FEATURES User Interface/Process Controls Digital parameter entry for precise, easy setup. 1 ms sampling rate of all data provides superior performance. Digital amplitude control allows fine tuning for critical applications (ranges from 10% to 100% in 1% increments). Optional ground detect can be used to detect horn-to-anvil contact or can be utilized as an ultrasonic cut-off signal/safety override in all available welding modes. (This option must be factory installed.) Audible end of cycle tone to alert the operator that the cycle has finished when using a hand-held device. Self-diagnostics and monitoring provide visual, audible, and logic output alarms. Selectable Auto Reset conditions for all alarms. Power Supply Line / Load Regulation - Branson s patented closed-loop amplitude control corrects for variations due to power line fluctuations and varying load conditions. Output amplitude is maintained with a variation of only ±2% with line voltage fluctuations of ±10%, regardless of load. It ensures constant power in welding, and provides greater weld consistency and reliabilty. Autotune plus Memory (AT/M) - Provides fullyautomatic tuning in a range of ±500 Hz centered around khz for 20 khz horns, and ±1000 Hz around khz for 40 khz horns, and stores horn frequency at the end of eachweld. System Protection Monitor (SPM) - Five levels of power supply protection are provided: 1) phasing, 2) over voltage, 3) over current, 4) over temperature, and 5) power. The benefits of this feature are to avoid equipment failures and to provide greater weld accuracy and repeatability. Visual and audible alarms, and external outputs identify overload, machine faults and setup errors. LED readouts display parameter settings during setup and operation for easy reference and monitoring. LEDs are large and easy to read in most light conditions. Nonvolatile storage of cycle parameters provides storage of last used cycle parameters even if the system is shut off or a power interruption occurs.

Overload and Weld On outputs and external reset input are available for customer access, through 24V DC logic interfaces. External reset input available in +24V (Requires J911 start cable). Hand-Held Welding Tools With pistol grip models (HK-215, PT-250, PT-350 PT-480), the trigger switch is located on the grip; the barrel grip Model HT-480 has the trigger switch located on the side of the barrel. All units may be operated in an untimed mode with the 2000LP power supply set for continuous operation, utilizing the trigger switch; or in a timed or energy mode using the 2000LP power supply controller. With time or energy modes, the trigger switch initiates the cycle, which is then controlled by the power supply. On the HT-215 unit, the operator grips a sliding, spring-loaded sleeve, and by applying pressure against the parts to be welded, automatically triggers the ultrasonic welding cycle. Welding duration is controlled by the power supply either in time or energy welding modes. An adjustment screw is used to vary the force required before ultrasonic triggering occurs. 3 Integrated Ultrasonic Plastic Welder 2000IW+ Series These Integrated Welder is self-contained ultrasonic plastics assembly system that combines a power supply module, process controls, and welding stand in a compact bench unit. The system is available with power output of 1100, 2200 or 3300 Watts at 20 khz working frequency. Beside time mode the IW+ model enables distance welding in either collapse or absolute modes with limits. Apart from special characteristics the concept of IW+ is based among others on the following standard characteristics of 2000 series: Autotune plus Memory (AT/M), Dynamic Triggering, System Protection Monitor (SPM), upper limit switch, highprecision pressure regulator, calibrated flow control, adjustable mechanical stop. It produces 20% higher output amplitude for faster weld cycles. Auto Seek automatically measures stack frequency and stores it in memory. Three selectable Auto Seek choices are available. Activating via test switch checks stack frequency and sets memory by pressing the test switch Interval activating checks stack frequency and sets memory by once/minute timer Starting ramp with four selectable start rates (10, 35, 80, 105 milliseconds) to accomodate starting characteristics of a wide range of horns. This feature make it easier to start more difficult horns or enables faster cycle rates. Operation mode of model IW+: This model gives choice of time or distance modes (either absolute or collapse). In absolute, the weld is terminated at a predetermined point in the stroke, measured from the top of the stroke. In collapse, the weld is terminated at a predetermined point in the stroke after the horn contacts the part and the trigger switch is activated. The position display is digital. With position modes, upper and lower limit ranges may be selected. Digital and direct parameter entry with autoranging when entering parameters gives precise settings for repeatable accuracy. The autorange values enable fine resolution and setup accuracy. A linear optical encoder measures weld distance" enabling welding by specific part collapse (meltdown), or to a finished part height (absolute). Afterburst with variable delay and duration is available to dislodge a part or material adhering to the horn face. Individual select keys allow easy selection of parameters to be modified. Active choice is lighted.

4 Self-diagnostics and cycle monitoring features and capabilities provide fast, accurate trouble shooting and minimize downtime. During initial powerup, the unit completes a selfcheck and identifies any fault conditions or parameter errors before indicating that the system is ready for operation. Visual and audible alarms and external outputs identify overload, machine faults and setup errors (e.g. emergency stop engaged). Fast-response LED storage meter displays power loading in 5% increments, and provides storage of the peak power achieved during the weld cycle as well as better visibility; 100% of rated output of the power supply is delivered at full meter reading. Peak power reading from the last welding cycle is available on the digital LED display by depressing the reset switch. Similarly, power in the tuning mode is digitally displayed when the test switch is depressed. LED readouts display parameter settings during setup and operation for easy reference and monitoring. LEDs are large and easy to read in most light conditions. Lockout of front panel switches is provided by and internal dip switch, preventing unauthorized parameter changes to the setup. Automation Interfacing Series Integrated Welders can be interfaced with external devices and controls (e.g., PLCs). Select faults or weld errors sensed by the system can be communicated outside the welder for monitoring and sorting suspect parts. General alarm and weld on outputs are available for customer access through 24V DC negative logic devices. The ready signal is both a 24VDC and isolated contact closure. Reset is available via front panel or external for customer access as a 24V DC input. A 24V source is provided by the welder.
