Drake Date: July 27, 2016 Re: Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC) The Mine Safety Appliance (MSA) model 5600 TIC that suffered terminal damage a few months ago is no longer available to purchase as this model has been discontinued. The local MSA vendor provided a quote for the new replacement model (MSA 6000) of $ 7, This is an increase of $ from the previous damaged model. The vendor also provided a camera as a demo to evaluate. As PFD was not comfortable with this price increase, I was directed to examine other options for a replacement. I solicited volunteers and formed a five man committee to scrutinize other manufacturer s TICs and develop a recommendation for a replacement purchase. The committee evaluated four manufacturers: MSA, FLIR, BULLARD, and ISG. Evaluation criteria included: ergonomics, size, weight, battery life, operation functions, robustness, display screen size and pixel, and warranty. The committee is recommending the purchase of two TICs from FLIR. This request is based on the economic value provided through FLIR by differentiating cameras for interior use versus exterior use. I would like to recommend approval of the committees request to purchase two FLIR Thermal Imaging Cameras, one K22, and one K45 models from Douglas Safety Systems for the amount of $ 6, This purchase request includes various auxiliary equipment and spare batteries as listed in the quote.
