2 INTRODUCTION Eagle Lighting Australia would like to introduce Downlights for the Environment - the latest addition in a series of publications, where we focus on the true cost of a luminaire over its life-cycle. Inside you ll find Life Cycle Cost Analysis, Calculation Summarys and Maintenance Factors for AS1680 and Greenstar calculations for five outstanding luminaires from the Fagerhult range of downlights. Complementing the Easy LED, you ll find the compact fluorescent Pleiad SLD G2, and the latest in LED downlights from Fagerhult, the Pleaid Power, Compact G3 and SLD G3. Alongside an informative comparison diagram, we have provided a range of accessories and options available for the innovative Pleiad range of downlights. 3 MAINTENANCE FACTORS Throughout this Downlights for the Environment, lighting calculations are demonstrated by using an array of maintenance factors (MF). This is derived from AS1680.4:2001 Part 4: Maintenance of Electric Lighting Systems. As per the standard we have used the following formula to reach these figures: LLMF x LSF x LMF x RSMF = MF LLMF = Lamp Lumen Maintenance Factor LSF = Lamp Survival Factor LMF = Luminaire Maintenance Factor RSMF = Room Surface Maintenance Factor Lamp Operating Hours: Using Table 4.1 AS1680.4:2001, we have based our calculations on a six working-day period in which the luminaires will be operated 10 per day over a 310 day period, therefore the lamp operating per year are LLMF: Using Table B2 of AS1680.4:2001 (page 24), and assuming a four-year life cycle, we have determined that our LLMF for compact fluorescent lamps will be 0.79 at 10,000 total, and LED lamps will be 0.8 at 35,000 based on manufacturers data. LSF: Using Table B2 of AS1680.4:2001 (page 24), and assuming all failed lamps will be replaced at the time of cleaning every 12 months, we have determined that our LSF will be for Compact fluorescent and LED. LED LSF based on manufacturers data. LMF: Using Table B1 of AS1680.4:2001 (page 23), and assuming a one year cleaning cycle and a clean office environment, we have determined that our closed top reflector luminaires will have a LMF of RSMF: Using Table B3 of AS1680.4:2001 (page 25), and basing our data on a medium office space in a clean office environment, we have determined that the direct luminaires used in this document will have a RSMF of Formula for Compact Fluorescent: LLMF x LSF x LMF x RSMF = MF CF = 0.79 x x 0.89 x 0.98 = 0.68mf Formula for LED Downlight: LLMF x LSF x LMF x RSMF = MF LED = 0.8 x x 0.89 x 0.98 = 0.70mf AS :2008 Table E1: Recommendations for office and screen-based visual tasks: General task areas involving typing, reading and writing: Reception: 320lux AS :2008 Table D1: Recommendations for circulations spaces and other general areas: Lobbies: 160lux Corridors: 40 lux For good design practice, we have aimed for 80 lux in the corridors to avoid any harsh transition issues between two or more areas.
