3 The DOT Downlight Range was introduced in 198. Since its launch, it has evolved primarily in response to suggestions and feedback from building owners, electrical contractors, lighting designers and distributors of the Range. During the design and development of any segment of the DOT range, each component is meticulously scrutinized. The raw materials used are the highest quality available; injection moulded components are continually upgraded to take full advantage of ongoing developments in thermoplastics. Heat retention within each downlight is minimized to ensure component longevity and extended lamp life. This commitment to quality throughout its design, development and production, is evident in the DOT range s construction, installation and performance.... the DOT construction system will also impress 1

6 DOT PERFORMANCE The DOT Range of Downlights offers benefits and lighting solutions to all segments of the industry Building Owners Lighting Designers Electrical Contractors Distributors The evolution of the range and commitment to its ongoing development resulted in the introduction of the AXLock system. The AXLock system allows building owners to significantly alter lighting within building spaces by simply changing accessories fitted to downlights rather than replacing complete lighting installations; this is a cost effective means to future proof lighting requirements. Lighting Designers can choose from a large selection of downlights with a variety of light sources and three reflector finishes. There are also three electronic control gear dimming options available with compact fluorescent models. A comprehensive selection of AXLock accessories then allows designers to alter light produced by the downlights. Decorative glass, a variety of lenses and trim colours add further options to customize installations. Electrical contractors benefit from the ease of installing the DOT range. Downlight bodies are quickly mounted and if necessary removed (no tools are required) with the patented mounting system. Reflectors are also easily fitted by turning moulded reflector keys 180 degrees; the keys are part of the reflector assemblies and can not be misplaced or lost. Downlight reflectors, accessories and ceiling plates can be fitted after ceiling surfaces have been painted therefore no masking for painting is necessary... The DOT AXLock system reduces the number of basic downlight models in the range. Cross vane and turbo louvres, recessed and flush mounted lenses are AXLock accessories and can be fitted to downlights after installation. The AXLock system benefits distributors of the range by reducing inventory, enabling faster delivery times and offering a comprehensive range of downlights made to the highest standards at very competitive prices. All AXLock Accessories are installed with a simple twist and lock movement, the same movement removes accessories for cleaning or re-lamping.

7 DOT SERIES Lighting demands vary from project to project. Some require the best quality of light, others need maximum light output from their luminaires while a significant number of projects must have low up front costs. The DOT Range offers four options to cater for these demands; they are EXCEL, PERFORMANCE, COLOUR and BASE. All options are available in three configurations fully recessed, surface mounted and suspended. DOT EXCEL A combination of high colour rendition and performance ensures maximum light output with minimum effect on colour quality. High efficacy up to 10 lumens/watt. High colour rendering (CRI 9). Increased red tones (R9 6). Minimum colour variation ( MacAdam Step). Applications: Medical, Commercial Spaces, Receptions, Meeting Rooms, Hotel Spaces, Residential. DOT PERFORMANCE Maximum light output, highly efficient option producing in excess of 7,000 lumens. Superior efficacy up to 1 lumens/watt. Colour rendering (CRI 8). Colour variation ( MacAdam Step). Applications: Commercial Spaces, Receptions, Meeting rooms, Hotel Spaces, Residential. DOT COLOUR Superior colour accuracy and high saturated red tones ensure optimum light quality over the entire lifetime. High colour rendering. Increased red tones (R9 8). Minimum colour variation ( MacAdam Step). Low Cyanosis Observation Index (COI 0.76). Applications: Medical Installations, Commercial Spaces, Receptions, Galleries, Retail Spaces. DOT BASE Entry level (low cost) downlights which offer the standard DOT ease of installation system and year warranty. Colour rendering (CRI 80). Efficiency up to 10 lumens/watt. Colour variation ( MacAdam Step). Applications: Retrofit replacement for CFL downlights, General lighting.

122 Dimming Options Understanding the different dimming types is critical to the success of any lighting project. Phase-Cut Dimming (Trailing Edge/Leading Edge) The most basic form of dimming, originally developed for incandescent loads. This is your typical domestic type dimmer. No additional wiring other than standard C+E. The dimmer simply chops or cuts the voltage signal going to the light fitting. Dimmer is simply added to the Active line. PUSH DIM Is one of the simplest types of dimming available on the market, and is suitable for use in small to medium sized installations. No low voltage cables or no digital controllers are required - Each downlight requires a standard C+E plus a 1 or Core Switch wire, a normally open type push button switch is required to operate a PUSH DIM system. Don t mix different push dim drivers on the same circuit. 125 Macadam Steps and CRI MacAdam Steps The MacAdam step or Standard Deviation Colour Match (SDCM) refers to an elliptical region centered at a target colour on a chromaticity diagram. The size of the MacAdam step defines the threshold at which colour difference becomes perceivable to the average human eye. In short, this refers to how easy it is for the human eye to detect colour differences, most commonly variations in white s. The smaller the SDCM number, the lower the standard deviation, and the harder it is to detect differences. 1- MacAdam steps are considered to be indistinguishable to the average human eye from the colour at the centre of the ellipse. - steps are considered barely distinguishable and a majority of the population will be able to discern differences in deviations steps and above. CRI & R9 The Colour Rendition Index (or CRI) is the baseline measurement of how well a light source replicates colours. CRI is Measured on a 1 to 100 index (100 being the best), that represents how well colours are illuminated by a light source when compared with a natural light source. Most objects are not a single colour, but a combination of many colours, and light sources that are deficient in certain colours may change the appearance of an object. CRI is an average value based on R1 - R8 of the below image. Lights with a CRI that is measured greater than 80 are considered to be more than acceptable for most applications. Lights with a CRI that is measured greater than 90 is generally considered High CRI lights. 126 IP and IK Ratings Understanding the protection levels required in different environments is critical to the longevity and safety of all lighting projects. IP RATING: A two digit number is used to provide an Ingress Protection rating to a piece of electronic equipment or to an enclosure for electronic equipment including luminaires. The two digits represent different forms of environmental influence: The first number represents protection against ingress of solid objects, including dust. The second number represents protection against ingress of liquids. The higher the value of each digit, the higher the level of overall protection achieved. For example, a product rated IP6 would be better protected against environmental factors than another similar product rated as IP.
