Bibliography Acknowledgements Background 1.1 On the 25 th of October 2016 a photographic survey was conducted of thirteenth-century pictorial engravings located on the 12th to 13th century crossing piers of St. Clement s Church, Sandwich. 1.2 Much erosion has occurred to the engravings so here we have photographed and digitally traced the scenes first identified by the Kent Medieval Graffiti Survey (Anstee 2016) to provide a highquality benchmark of their current state, which can be used to check on condition in the future. The figures are suspected to be of the same date and origin as those recently surveyed at Rochester Cathedral (Scott 2016). An interpretation of both sequences from St. Clements and Rochester will follow in a later publication. Further figures may remain unidentified, future raking light surveys might add to these records. 2. Field Methodology 2.1 Photographs have been taken with a Canon EOS 100D with kit lens at 18mm. Raking light has been used to illuminate records 3. Post-Processing 3.1 Photographs have been rectified to remove barrel lens distortion using GIMP image-editing software v (Filters/Lens Distortion/Main -10%). Traces have been produced using Microsoft Paint. 4. Data Delivery, Reporting & Archiving 4.1 Report will be published in PDF format on the Rochester Cathedral Research Guild website at A link for internet download of image files and raw counterparts will be provided for purposes of academic research, subject to Chapter approval, upon request to jacob.scott@rochestercathedralresearchguild.org. 4.3 A PDF version of this final report will be provided to St. Clement s Church for their records. 4.4 Digital copies of the report, photographs and tracings will be provided to Kent Historic Environment Record.
