3 10 th Anniversary 1. Subjective Color Inspections FUNDED BY: MEMBER OF THE INITIATIVE: CERTIFIED BY:
4 1.1 Why Colors have to be Measured In industry, biology/medicine and environment there are many applications where the color is a direct or indirect characteristic for the quality of a product or process. Quality parameters characterized by colors are: appearances states compositions Objective and reproducible color measurements for quality determination of products and processes in laboratories and in-field are necessary. 4

25 6.1 Summary & Conclusions Innovative convenient, reliable and affordable measuring instruments with photonic micro sensors enable objective colorimetric characterizations of optically clear colored liquids at the point of interest. Micro-colorimeter modules with multi-spectral sensors have the same color accuracy as spectral sensor modules in terms of colorimetric characterizations of optically clear colored liquids. Micro-colorimeter modules with multi-spectral sensors can be calibrated by any kind of linear independent liquid color solutions. Highly accurate colorimetric characterization of liquids according to DIN EN 1557 and ASTM D can be seamless applied to micro-colorimeter modules with multi-spectral sensors. Smartpads are convenient, reliable and affordable mobile quality assurance systems in combination with micro-colorimeter and micro-spectrometer modules and specialized image processing software. 25
