4 Lumos 2 Luminaire Range Visual impressions count Well-lit goods increase sales success, and to attract attention to products in the food trade, individual lighting solutions are obligatory for ideal goods displays. Fresh products in cooling shelves as well as meat, fish and cheese are efficiently and reliably illuminated with the Lumos 2, and also displayed within a best possible atmosphere. 5 Lumos 2 Luminaire Range Whether horizontal or vertical, Lumos 2 achieves optimal presentations of fresh goods with maximum visual comfort according to specific needs. Featuring high flexibility, lengths, light colours and light distribution patterns can be adapted according to customer requirements. The system is installed in a wide variety of cold store cooling shelves simple mounting accessories. The flexible system also enables individual combinations for luminous flux, optics and basis construction. With high system efficiency and a service life of 50,000 h (L85/B50), the Lumos 2 ensures long lifespans and almost maintenance-free operation. 6 Lumos 2 Lighting Requirements Maximum quality perfect illumination Daily shopping has much to do with desire and enjoyment, and retailers supplying pleasant surroundings, freshness and shopping experiences come to the fore. With regard to long opening times, LED luminaires have the advantage with high energy efficiency, high system lifespans and long maintenance intervals, but also thanks to efficient technology and a modern image. The range of products in cooling shelves is characterised by vitality, a sense of health, taste and enjoyment. 6

7 Lumos 2 Lighting Requirements Caring for food Meats, cheese, fruit and vegetables benefit from LED technology. IR and UV radiation at the light emission surface is minimised to the extreme with this technology, thereby protecting foodstuffs and packaging. Stimulating the appetite Juicy, fresh, cool light colours trigger emotional impulses. Light sources with very good colour rendering and also product-specific light colours are ideal. Targeted displays Good light supports orientation, improves shopping enjoyment and also sales success, and high precision optical systems guide light and attention onto specific products. 8 Lumos 2 A Flexible System A fl exible system for cooling shelves Well-lit goods increase sales success, because good light makes it easier for customers to find their way around, and also increases their purchasing enjoyment. Lumos 2 cooling shelf luminaires offer a new quality for lighting in refrigerated cabinets. They ensure qualitative light in all types of display and illuminate each cabinet with a high degree of homogeneity, made possible by the combination of head luminaire and shelf luminaires. Along with classic head and shelf luminaires, the vertical luminaire expands the reliable Lumos system, enabling fresh food such as packed salads, convenience products and juices to be optimally illuminated in closed cooling shelves. The Lumos 2 is also ideal for goods displays in meat and delicatessen counters. Additional filters that deter the blue and green colour spectrum also specifically highlight meat and delicatessen goods. Configuration with head luminaire only Thanks to a balanced control of light, the upper display and shelf front are uniformly illuminated from top to bottom. Conventional head luminaires with fluorescent tubes are only able to distribute light highly unevenly, meaning that products below and placed further back on the shelf base remain in the dark. Configuration with head luminaire and shelf luminaires for each shelf base Brightness levels of the head and shelf luminaires are precisely matched. Whether at the front or back, all goods are seen in their entirety, even when the first product rows are not filled. 8

10 Lumos 2 Optimum Light Optimum light prevents refl ections, glare and shadows The first impression counts. Is the product tempting? Can all information be immediately recognised? Packaging can only make the most of its advantages in harmonious light, and Lumos 2 cooling shelf luminaires ideally present products. Many low power LED with their small light points create a homogeneous light that is distributed diffusely within the shelving units via state-of-the-art optics. Lumos 2 luminaire systems intentionally do without highpower LED though, as this popular LED technology, despite suitable optics, generates light points with high glare on foil-packed goods and at the rears of shelf units. Standard fluorescent tubes and other LED solutions available until now have no special lighting technology at all in many cases, meaning that the rear panels of cooling cabinets can dazzle onlookers. The result: eyes need to readjust, and the attention of customers is then no longer directly concentrated on the product. The Lumos 2 luminaire system is different reflections are banished, winning valuable time for rapid purchasing decisions. A sad fact though in many cooling shelves are surfaces that dazzle, meaning that goods packaged in plastic foil are especially difficult to read. The cause of this is usually direct light emitted from just a few high-power LED, causing points of glare on goods and packaging. 11 Lumos 2 Optimum Light It s what all customers want: perfectly visible goods with highly legible product information on the packaging. The many low-power LED in Lumos 2 cooling shelf luminaires emit uniformly distributed light within shelving systems. 11

12 Lumos 2 Outstanding Goods Displays Matched light colours for the perfect presentation of goods Meat should appear appetising, cheese fresh and milk cool. At a subconscious level these stimuli strongly influence the purchasing decisions of customers, because light colours trigger emotional impulses. This is why special colour temperatures are available with Lumos 2 cooling shelf luminaires for the appetising and stimulating display of various product groups. Neutral white guarantees colour-true light across the complete colour spectrum. Warm white is on the other hand used for presenting meat and cold meat products, and cool white light colours for fish. The LED technology used is especially advantageous for meat products, but also for other UVendangered goods. The technology emits neither IR nor UV radiation, thus protecting foodstuffs and packaging materials. Hence Lumos 2 luminaires with slight adaptations can be simply used for refrigerated cabinets displaying fresh meat. Harmonious looks from all angles The targeted use of colour temperatures: only with a suitable colour temperature is it possible to achieve optimal product presentation in terms of colour. Special colour values have been defined for various product groups: warm white, neutral white and cool white. 13 Lumos 2 Outstanding Goods Displays True-to-life colour rendering Achieved thanks to the specific lighting technology of Lumos 2 cooling shelf luminaires with neutral white light. This in turn confidently resolves a deficiency often occurring with LED lighting until now lighting was seen as being artificial, and in some cases even with a certain grey teint K 4000 K 5000 K Meat and delicatessen products Meat and cold meat products appear appetising this sensory form of perception is triggered via a balanced red component in the warm white light. Dairy products Cheese and other bright milk products are best displayed with neutral white light, achieving an especially fresh appearance. Fish The feeling of a fresh catch and iciness are features of good fish displays. Cool white light supports this customer expectation. 13

14 Lumos 2 Light and Food Light radiation and food products Light and oxygen are harmful for most types of foods, this combination being responsible for the photo-oxidation of various ingredients, leading to fat-containing foodstuffs becoming rancid and dairy products developing a 'light flavour'. The influence of light on food is an example of a combined process. Apart from the few cases of an exclusively photo-chemical effect of light on foodstuffs, the presence of oxygen is a precondition for changes triggered in this way. The spoilage of oxygen-sensitive food, in addition to its inherent tolerance level, is also determined by the reaction speed of oxygen within the specific packaging material. At risk due to light are: Fats, especially those in polyunsaturated fatty acids Several types of amino acid Several vitamins (A, B2, B6, B12, C, D, E, K, folic acid) Colourants such as chlorophyll, carotene, myoglobin and nitrosomyoglobin (in cured meat products); The consequences of spoilage due to light can be sensory changes (such as so-called light flavour and rancidity), loss of vitamins and colour blemishes. Health hazards cannot be excluded either. The combination of foodstuff within the specific packaging must always be considered. In a test over 32 hours, various meat-based delicatessen products were illuminated with the new Lumos 2 luminaires for head and shelf lighting. The visual blemishing/greying of the cured/reddened meat products in transparent foil packaging was documented. With uncured meat products (e.g. meat sausage) with nitrite used as a preservative, the chromophoric combination responded highly sensitively to illumination as an influence factor. Illuminance levels are not the decisive parameter for the discolouring of fresh meat and cold meats radiation intensity according to wavelength range is the primary factor for avoiding the permeation of oxygen within packaging. With the new Lumos head and shelf luminaires, even after 32 hours of continuous illumination no discolouring was shown with: Chicken fillets Ham Pork cuts Meat loaf Cooked ham Not only oxygen, also light affects fresh food 14

15 Lumos 2 Efficiency Efficient lighting and great savings Good lighting in cooling shelves not only means optimum lighting for ideal goods displays - when a company invests this is not just a matter of productivity and functionality but also bare figures and balance sheets for maintenance costs, operating costs and energy overheads. This applies to new systems, but also to the refurbishment of existing lighting solutions. Thanks to efficient optics and an innovative design, Lumos 2 ensures that lighting is not an energy waster or cost driver in terms of maintenance. 16 Lumos 2 Mounting Simple installation for almost all shelf systems Easy mounting is a major advantage of the Lumos 2 range, and luminaires are quickly installed, trouble-free, into almost all standard cooling shelf systems without use of special tools. Once mounted and aligned, Lumos 2 shelf luminaires provide a continuously optimum lighting result. This is achieved by intelligent fastening technology, and even with thorough cleaning or intensive customer use, the position and therefore the beam angle of the luminaires is not modified. Mechanical preparation A rivet gun is required. Rivets for mounting angles are not included in the scope of supply. Prepare electrification Position the control unit on the top of the shelf and pull the cable through the outlet into the cabinet interior. Attaching the luminaire Simply snap the luminaire into the angle bracket previously attached to the shelf base. Connect done! Connect Lumos 2 luminaires to the control unit via the connection box and commence operation. 16
