About this Application Note This Application Note describes the Flatbed printing workflow, using the REMOTE CONTROL UNIT. Preparing the Printer For full details of this procedure, see the relevant chapters in the User's Manual. To Configure the software: 1. From the MAIN SCREEN, select TOOLS and from the drop-down menu, choose PREFERENCES, as shown below. The PREFERENCES dialog box appears, as shown below. 2. In the MACHINE MODE group box, check the FLATBED option and click OK A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 2 of 9

Raise the SHAFT ROLLER, so that the top of the rollers is level with the PRINT TABLE. 6. Dock the FLATBED TABLES to the front and back of the printer.

3 The following window appears. 3. Click OK and restart the program. 4. Raise the CARRIAGE high enough so that it will not come into contact with the rigid media to be on the safe side, raise it more than necessary. 5. Raise the SHAFT ROLLER, so that the top of the rollers is level with the PRINT TABLE. 6. Dock the FLATBED TABLES to the front and back of the printer. The Flatbed tables were already levelled during the printer's installation. However, you should periodically check that the Shaft Rollers, the Print Table and both Flatbed Tables are all level A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 3 of 9

3 Activate or deactivate the vacuum (Preset on the Vacuum Regulator). 4 Spare 1. Place the rigid media onto the rear FLATBED TABLE. 2.

4 Loading the Media The following procedure is carried out using the REMOTE CONTROL UNIT, as shown below. Press Button # The following table shows the functions of each button. To: 1 Raise and lower the Front Wing 2 Raise and lower the Flatbed Media Pressure Rollers. 3 Activate or deactivate the vacuum (Preset on the Vacuum Regulator). 4 Spare 1. Place the rigid media onto the rear FLATBED TABLE. 2. Press button #1 to raise the FRONT WING. 3. With the leading edge of the media resting exactly on that of the FRONT WING, make sure that the two edges are in contact with each other, for their entire width, as shown below A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Using the CARRIAGE LEFT / CARRIAGE RIGHT buttons, move the CARRIAGE so

The VACUUM TABLE PUMP is activated and will keep the media attached to the VACUUM TABLE while the FLATBED ROLLERS feed the media under the PRINT HEADS. 6. Press button #1 to lower the FRONT WING. 7. Using the CARRIAGE LEFT / CARRIAGE RIGHT buttons, move the CARRIAGE so that it is located above the media. 8. In step #4 of the Preparing the Printer section, the CARRIAGE was raised. Using the MEASURE MEDIA dialog box, measure the media's width. To avoid re-measuring every time a new rigid media is loaded, mark the required position where additional sheets should be loaded, as shown below. Printing When in Flatbed mode, every time an action that involves moving the CARRIAGE is to be carried out, a warning appears asking you to check the CARRIAGE height, as shown below. 7 To avoid this waste, from the FLATBED MODE group box in the PREFERENCES dialog box (shown below), enter the distance you wish the media to be reversed before printing. This action is carried out when you click PRINT. Printing an Edge-to-edge File Edge-to-edge: Height To print the entire height of the media, since the advance of the media is dependant on the Media Pressure Rollers advancing it from the rear, it is necessary to attach a 'dummy' (of the same sheet type and thickness!) to the rear edge of the media. The dummy should be the same width as the printed sheet and at least 40 cm long. This is to ensure that the media is advanced even after the rear edge has passed under the Media Pressure Rollers. Tape the dummy to the sheet and then turn over the sheet so that the printer will not print on the tape, as shown below A Matan Digital Printers Ltd. Page 7 of 9

To avoid the accumulation of ink at the sides of the media on the Print Table, attach some masking tape at each edge of the media, as shown below.

8 Edge-to-edge: Width To print the entire width of the media, you have to RIP the file slightly wider than required. The software supports files up to 4 cm wider than the installed media. Printing a Small File When the media is long enough to print a number of copies of the same file, the recommended method is to print some of the copies, and then rotate the media and print the remaining copies while the printed section acts as the media leader A Matan Digital Printers Ltd.
