2 WHY BLUE LASERS? COLOR SENSITIVITY OF THE HUMAN EYE Normalised absorbance BLUE LASER LIGHT DOESN T PENETRATE SKIN AS DEEPLY AS LIGHT OF LONGER WAVELENGTHS. IT PRODUCES LESS SCATTERING AND LESS DIFFUSE REFLECTIONS The human retina contains approximatively 120 millions rods and only 6 millions cone receptors, which, when stimulated by light, send signals to the brain. These signals are subsequently interpreted as vision. Rods and cones are not equally sensitive to visible wavelengths of light. Unlike the cones, rods are more sensitive to blue light and are not sensitive to wavelengths 1500 L CONES greater than 640 nm, the red S CONES R M CONES fraction of the visible spectrum. If the human eye is exposed to less light than normal, the reception Wavelength (nm) changes from photopic to scotopic sight. This increases the sensitivity of the human eye to blue light by a factor of 10 or more, whereas sensitivity for green increases only by a factor of 2 or less and for red it is reduced to less of even more violett blue cyan green yellow red ABSORPTION CURVES NORMALIZED AT 100% FOR THE DIFFERENT RECEPTOR CELLS IN FUNCTION OF THE WAVELENGTH OF THE LIGHT. (R=RODS, S CONES =BLUE, M CONES =GREEN, L CONES =RED) The best working environment for blue lasers is a dimmed room. This is the case in a CT or linac room. All of this has a positive contribution to the external beam treatment process and to the treatment quality. The user will spend less time aligning of the patient during the treatment or during a QA process. Lumens per watt lumens per watt 555 Scoptic vision (dark adapted) Wavelength (nm) 683 lumens per watt Photopic vision (light adapted) SCOTOPIC AND PHOTOPIC VISION OF THE HUMAN EYES BY DARK OND LIGHT ADAPTION. KEy POINTS BLUE VISION L aser Clearest lines Finest lines Human skin refl ects blue light better APOLLO ROOM LASERS HIGH PRECISION TOOLS FOR PATIENT SETUP AND IMPROVED TREATMENT QUALITY Precise, accurate and reproducible patient positioning is paramount to the success of radiation therapy treatments. Combined with on board imaging systems the patient positioning lasers provide an interface between the patient and the treatment delivery system. Room lasers are necessary tools for aligning the patient, daily reference isocenter adjustments, and assuring optimized isocenter accuracy for your linear accelerator. The LAP APOLLOblue lasers deliver the highest precision, accuracy and reproducibility: with their long lines and 6 degrees of remote controlled freedom they are ideally suited for today s advanced treatments. APOLLOblue, THE FUTURE Because of the shorter wavelength, blue laser light penetrates organic materials and skin less than red or green laser light. Scattering and diff use refl ections such as interactions with oxygenated blood are reduced. The longer wavelength of red and green lasers, leads correspondingly, to an increase in the penetration depth.
3 TRUSTED KNOW HOW COMBINED WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY LONGER LASER LINES FOR IMPROVED PATIENT POSITIONING CLOCKWORK PRECISION MOTORS AND GEARS FOR FINE REMOTE LASER LINE ADJUSTMENT EXTREMELY STABLE, NON-REFLECTIVE EXTRA PLANED GLASS WINDOW UNIQUE OPTICS PROJECT TWO PERPENDICULAR LINES EQUAL IN WIDTH AND BRIGHTNESS QUALITY ENGINEERED BY LAP LASER IN GERMANY LAP engineering and manufacturing make APOLLOblue the state of the art laser system for patient alignment. The optimal fusing of advanced optics, clockwork precision mechanics and the most advanced electronics ensure the highest level of stability and reliability. 6 DEGREES OF FREEDOM ADJUSTMENT VIA WIRELESS INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL COMPACT DESIGN COMBINED WITH THE FINEST OPTOELECTRONICS SUPERIOR ALUMINIUM CONSTRUCTION, EXTRUDED AND CAM MACHINED REMOVABLE IR-RECEIVER
4 UNIQUE OPTICS Lasers and optics are the foundation of our business. LAP uses only the highest quality components. Very few off the shelf components are used in LAP s products with many components being manufactured and designed specifi cally for LAP applications. HIGHLY POLISHED ANTI-REFLECTIVE GL ASS LAP roomlasers are equipped with extremely stable highly polished and extra fl attened plane glass windows. They have a very low and constant dispersion to assure a fi ne laser line. The glass is anti-refl ective to avoid interference from the beam. normal glas planed glass with antireflection coating L AP SUPERPRISM LAP APOLLOblue avoids the pitfalls of two separate lines forming a cross by using one singular element: a prism, manufactured to split one beam into two perpendicular lines. This confi guration allows LAP APOLLOblue room lasers to use one window only, making them the most compact systems. As the beam forming takes place before the prism and its surface antirefl ection coating is selcted for the laser s wavelength, focussing of the crosshair has virtually no infl uence on rectangularity or brightness distribution a real superprism. LAP SINGLE FOCUS Due to the singular prism, focussing of both lines of the laser cross is handled by a single adjustment drive.
5 LINE QUALITY MAKING THE DIFFERENCE When using a treatment or imaging system the isocenter must be precisely verifi ed. The LAP APOLLOblue positioning lasers project ultra-fi ne laser lines denoting the isocenter of these systems so that the patient can be quickly and accurately placed on the treatment couch in a reproducible position. LAP APOLLOblue lasers set the highest standard when it comes to line quality, stability, reliability and ease of use. EASE OF ADJUSTMENT During the installation of the treatment machine the APOLLOblue lasers are adjusted so that their LINE WIDTH - FWHM Full width at half maximum (FWHM) is defi ned as the width across the brightness profi le when it drops to half its peak value. This is how the line width for LAP lasers is measured. It is a simple and Brightness 100 % 50 % Line width FWHM respective laser lines precisely intersect the isocenter. If over time further adjustments are required to achieve accuracy and performance related to the true isocenter of the treatment machine, the APOLLOblue lasers off er an advanced remote controlled system that provides fast and simple adjustments from a convenient handheld remote control. well-defi ned scientifi c method which can be used to compare the quality of lasers lines obtained from Width diff erent sources and under diff erent conditions. 6 CUSTOMIZED SOLUTIONS The most common installation consists of four lasers: two wall lasers, which project either side of the patient, and two ceiling lasers. Depending on gantry position, the ceiling laser directly above the BRACKETS FOR FALSE CEILINGS machine may be shadowed. One laser above the far end of the Also available are custom mounting brackets couch still projects the sagittal line. Each laserline defi nes a plane. for large distances between the mounting Correctly adjusted, these planes are orthogonal and intersect in plates and the false ceiling or wall recess. the isocenter to defi ne the room coordinates system Depending on room geometry and linac position, this can sometimes only be achieved by use of free standing columns, brackets for false ceilings or tilt brackets. FREE STANDING COLUMN TILT BRACKET The APOLLOblue lasers may also be housed APOLLOblue lasers come standard with in a free standing column for applications adjustable tilting brackets allowing for where suitable wall mounts are not available. rotation up to 45. Due to its very small size LAP lasers are ideal for mounting in small and hard to reach places.
