4 Introduction This document provides instructions for configuring the following HD4D Series indoor/outdoor vandal-resistant mini fixed dome cameras: HD4D3S(X) mm Vari-focal Auto Iris lens HD4D9S(X) 9 22 mm Vari-focal Auto Iris lens HD4DAFS(X) mm Auto Focus lens HD4DIRS(X) mm Vari-focal Auto Iris lens, 18 LEDs These instructions are intended for system installers, administrators, and operators. 4

5 Programming the Camera The camera is programmed using the on-screen display (OSD) menus. You may need to connect a portable monitor during installation using the supplied adapter cable. To access the OSD menu system, press the OSD controller joystick located on the camera control board. Move the joystick left or right, up or down, to navigate through the menus. Menu icons are located along the top of each menu screen to allow easy programming. The camera has the following OSD menu structure: 1. EXPOSURE LENS E. SHUTTER BLC MAX_DR AGC SENSE_UP 2. 6 Exposure Menu EXPOSURE LENS Note Only DC mode is supported at this time. Choosing MANUAL mode may cause the camera to operate incorrectly. Select DC. Press the OSD controller joystick to adjust the brightness level of the monitor screen. Select a value from 0 to 99 (99 = brightest). 6

7 EXPOSURE E. SHUTTER (Electronic Shutter) You can select from 18 different shutter speed levels, from X256 to 1/ The default shutter speed is 1/60. Note The SENSE_UP menu cannot be controlled if the E.SHUTTER setting is above 1/250. Select 1/100FLC to run camera in flickerless mode. Document Rev B 7 05/11

8 EXPOSURE BLC (Backlight Compensation) Backlight Compensation prevents subjects in defined areas of the scene from appearing too dark when backlighting is present. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can adjust the BLC level in five areas of the scene (top, bottom, center, left, right). Select a value from 0 to 255 for each area. Increase the BLC level in the areas you want to lighten. 8

9 EXPOSURE MAX_DR (Maximum Dynamic Range) Maximum Dynamic Range provides clear images even when strong backlighting is present. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can adjust the MAX_DR level. Select a value from 0 to 20. Document Rev B 9 05/11

10 EXPOSURE AGC (Auto Gain Control) Auto Gain Control automatically adjusts the video gain to enhance picture brightness in low light conditions. Select one of the following settings: OFF LOW MIDDLE HIGH EXPOSURE SENSE_UP Sense Up automatically activates slow shutter function when a scene is too dark. Select a value from X2 to X256 to set the frame integration level. Note The SENSE_UP menu cannot be controlled if the E.SHUTTER setting is above 1/

11 Color Menu COLOR WB MODE (White Balance) To set the white balance mode, select one of the following: AWC - Auto White Balance Control mode compensates for color temperature changes between 2000 K and K. ATW - Auto Tracking White Balance mode compensates for color temperature changes between 2500 K and 9500 K. MANUAL - Manual mode lets you control the white balance manually (see below). PUSH LOCK - Push Lock mode fixes the white balance based on current lighting. For best results, place a white surface (such as a piece of paper) in front of camera during adjustment. 12 COLOR WB MODE If WB mode is set to MANUAL, you can manually adjust the red level (M.WB R) and the blue level (M.WB B). Select a value from 0 to 255. COLOR R-Y GAIN AND B-Y GAIN R-Y GAIN sets the amount of red in the image. B-Y GAIN sets the amount of blue in the image. Select a value from 0 to

13 Day&Night Menu DAY&NIGHT D&N MODE (True Day/Night) To set the True Day/Night mode, select one of the following: AUTO - Camera automatically switches between day and night mode depending on the light level. COLOR - Camera remains in day mode, regardless of light level. B/W - Camera remains in night mode, regardless of light level. If AUTO is selected, you can define the following settings: BURST - Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, the camera provides a color burst signal when in night mode. If OFF, no color burst signal is provided. Note Some DVRs require a color burst signal to detect a camera. COLOR BW - Relative light level at which camera switches from day mode (color) to night mode (black and white). The higher the number, the lower the light level. BW COLOR - Relative light level at which camera switches from night mode (black and white) to day mode (color). This number should always be lower than the COLOR BW value. READ TIME - Time interval delay before switching from day mode to night mode. Adjustable from 3seconds to 12 seconds. Document Rev B 13 05/11

14 Function Menu FUNCTION MIRROR Select one of the following settings: OFF MIRROR - Flips the image horizontally V-FLIP - Flips the image vertically ROTATE - Combines V-FLIP and MIRROR FUNCTION SHARPNESS To set the image sharpness, select a value from 0 to 49 (49 = sharpest). 14

15 FUNCTION GAMMA Select the desired gamma level: 0.45 (default) FUNCTION 3D DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) Digital Noise Reduction reduces the noise/distortion on the screen at night, allowing clear images in low light conditions. 16 FUNCTION D_ZOOM (Digital Zoom) Digital Zoom lets you magnify the image on the screen up to three times. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can define the following settings: ZOOM - Adjustable from X1.0 to X3.0 (X3.0 = 3 digital zoom) PAN - Pan left (<0) or right (>0) TILT - Tilt up (<0) or down (>0) SHOW POS. - Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, a frame appears on the bottom right side of the screen showing how the zoom, pan, and tilt are applied. 16

17 FUNCTION SLC (Side Light Compensation) Side Light Compensation compensates for a brighter image on the sides of the screen. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can adjust the brightness level. Adjust the brightness level by selecting a value from 0 to 50. Document Rev B 17 05/11

18 FUNCTION HME (Highlight Masking Exposure) Highlight Masking Exposure masks highlights, allowing objects to appear more clearly on the screen. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can adjust the HME level. Adjust the HME level by selecting a value from 0 to 60. The higher the number, the darker the masking will be. 18

19 FUNCTION DIS (Digital Image Stabilization) Digital Image Stabilization minimizes or prevents blurred images due to camera vibration. Select ON or OFF. Document Rev B 19 05/11

20 Motion Menu MOTION MOTION You can set the camera to detect movement and to display an alarm on the screen when movement is detected. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, set the range of cells for motion detection. Selected cells appear blue. Unselected cells appear yellow. SET WINDOW - Select from 1 to 240 cells for motion detection. ALL SET - Set entire image for motion detection. ALL CLEAR - Cancel all motion detection. 20

21 MOTION SENSITI. (Sensitivity Level Setting) You can set the sensitivity level of the motion detection. Select a value from 0 to 120 (120 = most sensitive). MOTION SHOW INDI. (Show Indicator) You can set the motion detection indicator to OFF, ICON, or TRACE. Document Rev B 21 05/11

22 MOTION DELAY OUT You can set how long the alarm is displayed on the screen when motion is detected. Select a value from 1 to 15 seconds. Privacy Menu PRIVACY MASK 1 to MASK 6 Privacy masks let you hide parts of the screen from view. You can create up to six masks. Select ON or OFF for each mask (MASK 1 through 6). 22

23 If ON is selected, press the joystick to set the area to be masked and the color of the mask. Sizing handles SET WINDOW - Using the joystick, move the mask over the area you want to hide. To resize the mask, press the joystick once to select all of the sizing handles. Use the joystick to resize the mask to the desired dimensions. To change the mask shape, press the joystick one or more times to select the desired sizing handle. Drag the selected handle in the desired direction. COLOR SET - Set the color of the mask. You can choose from eight colors: black, warm yellow, green, blue, red, magenta, cool yellow, and gray. Document Rev B 23 05/11

24 Sync Menu SYNC SYNC MODE Select L/L (line lock) or INTERNAL. Select L/L if two or more cameras are using AC power in a switching system. Select INTERNAL if camera uses DC power, or if line lock is not required. SYNC V_PHASE When more than two cameras are used in a switching system, phase difference in the AC power line can occur. Therefore, the vertical phase must be adjusted for each camera. Select a vertical phase value from 0 to

25 Setup Menu SETUP CAMERA ID You can create a unique identifier for the camera. Select a value from 0 to 254 as the camera ID. Note This feature is not operational at this time. SETUP TITLE You can display a title for the camera on the screen. Select ON or OFF. Document Rev B 25 05/11

If ON is selected, you can define the following settings: EDIT - Lets you select characters for the title RESET - Clears the title POSITION - Lets you select where the title is displayed on the screen SETUP DPC (Dead Pixel Cancellation) Note For advanced users only. Dead Pixel Cancellation automatically removes defective ( dead ) pixels in real time. Select OFF or AUTO. 26

27 If AUTO is selected, you can define the following settings: WHITE THR. - Cancels the white defective pixels BLACK THR. - Cancels the black defective pixels DPC LEVEL - Lets you adjust the sensitivity level of the dead pixel cancellation To adjust the white defective pixel cancellation, set WHITE THR. and DPC LEVEL at the same time. To adjust the black defective pixel cancellation, set BLACK THR. and DPC LEVEL at the same time. Document Rev B 27 05/11

28 SETUP OMNI LENS (HD4DAFS Only) The omni lens is a special lens that is always in focus when zooming in and out. Select ON or OFF. If ON is selected, you can define the following settings: ALARM - Select ON or OFF READ TIME - Alarm end time (in seconds) ALARM ZOOM - Set the area to zoom in on when an alarm occurs. STAND BY - Set the area to zoom out from when an alarm ends. 28

29 Exit Menu EXIT EXIT Exit the OSD without saving. EXIT SAVE&EXIT Exit the OSD after saving the current settings. EXIT FACTORY SET Revert to factory default settings. Note FACTORY SET does not affect the LENS, DAY&NIGHT, CAMERA ID, and DPC settings. Document Rev B 29 05/11

30 Troubleshooting If you experience any of the following issues, use this troubleshooting guide to resolve the problem. If the problem persists, call Technical Support at (ext. 2) or send an message to No image appears. Is the coaxial cable attached securely? Is power present? Has the lens iris been adjusted correctly (with the level control)? The image is blurry. Is the lens in focus? Is the lens dirty? Gently clean the lens with a soft cloth if necessary. Is the monitor configured correctly? 30
