1 A new standard in web inspection and quality control for paper surfaces ISRA VISION introduces PAPER MASTER, a new Web Inspection and Web Break Monitoring System, which has been developed in order to support paper manufacturers in their daily quest to reach maximized production efficiency for a 100 percent saleable production. To achieve this target, the system provides specified data to optimize the paper quality as well as the process efficiency fast and easily. The new PAPER MASTER - Web Inspection System (WIS) is dedicated to quality control and inspects the whole width of the sheet on the paper machine in order to provide excellent photographic images of each defect. With high-resolution line-scan cameras and image processors, 100 percent inspection of the paper surface ensures reliable detection performance, even down to microns. The line-scan cameras with highest CD and MD resolution in combination with LED lighting deliver optimal image sharpness and detailed defect images at a production speed of more than 2,000m/min. When paper machines are operated at top speeds there is a tendency for increased web breaks and defects. Therefore, most paper mills run at moderate speed, which helps to minimize problems. With the help of the PAPER MASTER-WIS, the paper quality can be consistently checked at highest production speeds. This gives paper manufacturers the chance to produce at top speeds in order to stay competitive. Page 1

2 Another new feature of WIS is the defect classification which differentiates process-relevant defects from irrelevant ones and enables to act on the precise results. Usually the teaching process within the classification takes many weeks. With PAPER MASTER- WIS the integration of the complete software is now easier and shorter. A web break is always the most expensive event in any paper machine and must be avoided in order to achieve optimum production results. Typically there are many, even hundreds of pre-messages in the web about a process disturbance before it becomes so serious to cause a web break. To be able to act beforehand, the PAPER MASTER-WBM IntelliCam provides a high-performance web break analysis based on a new generation of cameras. The IntelliCam monitors web breaks and other critical events along the production line and automatically alarms for disturbance. The goal is to achieve process efficiency in a short period of time based on specified data. The PAPER MASTER IntelliCam is an intelligent camera concept which delivers data to the server and operator monitors without delays. The new technology provides a solution to handle the challenges occurring during the production process with the help of maximized image quality. Images are recorded with advanced HD+ cameras and ensure a sound video root cause analysis for fast corrective action. The IntelliCam comes as a compact, ruggedized stainless steel housing including camera, illumination, and cleaning. These characteristics make it easy to install even in challenging environments with limited spaces, dirt, water, and heat. Automated Razorblade or brush cleaning guarantees clear images by lowest maintenance effort at all times. The IntelliCam gives real-time information to reduce web Page 2

3 breaks typically by 50 percent, increases machine uptime and process productivity. In order to achieve a 100 percent saleable production, specified and highly reliable data is needed. PAPER MASTER-WIS and -WBM deliver web inspection and web break control data as independent solutions or as a unified, integrated system. Thus, the information on where and how a defect occurred can be determined fast and with only one mouse click.
