Kornwestheim, Germany On the occasion of the Automechanika 2010, SATA presented their latest spray gun generation: the SATAjet 4000 B, replacing the successful SATAjet 3000 B. The SATAjet 4000 B attracts right away with its distinctive, modern design and its compact, smaller size. Ergonomics The new, curved gun handle of the SATAjet 4000 B has been designed to fit the hand like (continued on page 2 - SATAjet 4000 B) With the increasing need of clean, breathable air for use in paint shops and the increasing need of clean sprayable air (especially with waterborne coatings) a need was identified to augment our air filtration systems from SATA. Today s paint shops are needing to replace existing rigid airlines with a clean piping system. The two most common materials used for are either copper or aluminum. Both materials are well suited for the task at hand. The major difference is cost to install and depending on volatility of the metals market, copper can greatly exceed the cost of aluminum. Copper is labor intensive to install vs. the current aluminum pipe systems. Our customers were looking for cost effective solutions to this dilemma. The Dan-Am Company, which is the exclusive independent distributor of SATA products in the US and Puerto Rico, began an exhaustive study to find the best, most capable, easy to install piping system available to supply our customers needs. The weight of the SATAjet 4000 B has been reduced by 15 % compared to its predecessor. With integrated digital pressure gauge and RPS disposable cup, it becomes the lightest gun of its class. The control elements also come in a new design. Due to their improved profile, they can be exactly adjusted even when wearing gloves. The round/flat spray control has been completely redesigned as well: with one quarter turn only required from open to closed, the spray fan can now be precisely tuned with linear effect to the shape of object to be painted for safe and even more comfortable paint application. New Concept With the new SATAjet 4000 B, every paint system can be safely and perfectly applied; painting becomes second nature. The spray gun with its extremely uniform and soft spray fan smoothly lays down the material on the object, resulting in top class finishes. Exact The NEW SATAjet 4000 is available in HVLP and RP (Reduced pressure), Standard or DIGITAL color match precision, perfect gloss and uniform paint distribution are immediately obvious. As a result, anyone who has tried the SATAjet 4000 B will never want to put the spray gun aside again. The recommended spray gun inlet pressure of the RP version has been further reduced, now ranging between only 29 to maximum 32 psi. Additionally, the new nozzle concept helps reduce the noise level by up to 50 %. Of course, the SATAjet 4000 B fully complies with the strict VOC regulations, with transfer rates far exceeding 65 %. Based on material, routine, application technique and available compressed air volume, the painter can select between the "Super Saver" HVLP low pressure or the "Super Speed" RP version with optimized high pressure technology. At the time of its market launch, the SATAjet 4000 B will be available with the following nozzle set-ups: The RP versions* with the sizes 1.2 / 1.2 W / 1.3 and 1.4 and the HVLP versions with the sizes WSB / 1.3 / 1.3 C / 1.4 and 1.5. Easy cleaning and maintenance Like the previous gun model, the SATAjet 4000 B features a shiny, easy to clean chrome surface. During the design process, special attention was paid to smooth material passages without any edges or undercuts. Furthermore, the new fluid tip sealing additionally reduces the cleaning effort. The SATAjet 4000 B is also equipped with a trigger cover element to protect the paint needle from overspray, thus increasing the lifetime of the paint needle packing. Furthermore, self-tensioning paint needle and air piston packings minimise time-consuming maintenance repairs. The proven cup connection (Quick Cup Connector) with bayonet for a quick and clean cup change has been adopted from its predecessor to ensure best conditions for the use of the RPS disposable cup system. To save time during disassembly and cleaning, the air cap thread has been further shortened. The air cap consists of sturdy chrome-plated brass, while fluid tip and paint needle are made of stainless steel. 7 General Rules For Compressed Air Distribution: Shop layout with individual filter units 1. Pressure drop between the compressor and point of use is irrecoverable. 2. Pipe size should be large enough that pressure drop doesn't exceed 10% between receiver and point of use. 3. Arrange piping to avoid strains. 4. Locate air compressor to draw clean uncontaminated air from the atmosphere. 5. Drain air compressor and drain legs in the a.m. 6. Plan ahead for future expansion and establish an area of loop to install temporary compressor. 7. Consider by-pass lines on all items that may require future maintenance. 8. Use loop piping system if possible, both around the plant and within each shop. Loop piping has 1/2 the pressure drop than that of a straight run for the same overall length of pipe 9. Consider second air receiver at end of line or loop if you have peak demands for air of short durations. 10. Locate outlets from the main header as close as possible to the point of application. This limits pressure drops. 11. Outlets must always be taken from the top of the pipe line to prevent carryover of condensed moisture to tools. 12. All piping should slope so that it drains towards a drop leg or moisture trap - away from compressor. 13. A minimum of 25 ft. to first outlet is recommended to cool air. 14. The main air line stand pipe should not be smaller than the compressor outlet size. 8 The quality of a paint job is primarily evaluated visually, by optical factors such as colour match, colour effects, gloss, etc. The spray gun itself plays a crucial role in this and significantly contributes to ensure high quality standards in the work processes of any paint shop. A consistent quality standard is therefore an indispensable requirement during the entire painting process. Over a period of time, however, every spray gun is subject to gradual wear and tear. This effect, but also clogged or damaged nozzle set components can have a negative impact on the spray pattern causing a variety of problems, such as mottling, color tone or gloss deviations. Very often, this is recognized too late; the consequences are an increased number of coating flaws and expensive rework. The new SATA cert allows to regularly check the spray pattern quality.
