September 4: Your adventure begins as you board your flight to Venice or Rome, Italy Day 2 >> Wed. September 5: (Venice/Rome - Padua) Morning/Afternoon: After your arrival in Venice, find your own way to your hotel in Padua (at your own expense). You will receive detailed information on how to get to your hotel in Padua beforehand. Check into your rooms and meet your faculty leader and your coordinator for a welcome session and orientation walking tour. Evening: A special welcome dinner awaits your group at a restaurant in Padua (today or on September 6 - depending on your preference).

2 Day 3 >> Thurs. September 6: (Padua) Morning: After breakfast, meet your faculty leader for a group meeting at a café nearby. Afterwards, start off your visit to the Cappella degli Scrovegni (admission included). The Scrovegni Chapel, dedicated to St. Mary of the Charity, frescoed between 1303 and 1305 by Giotto upon the commission of Enrico degli Scrovegni, is one of the most important masterpieces of Western art. The frescoes, which narrate events in the lives of the Virgin Mary and Christ, cover the entire walls. Afternoon: Refueled by lunch at your own expense, continue your afternoon with a visit to the Oratorio di San Giorgio and the Basilica di San Antonio (admission included). The Basilica di San Antonio is a Roman Catholic Church and minor basilica in Padua. Although the Basilica is visited as a place of pilgrimage by people from all over the world, it is not the titular cathedral of the city, a title belonging to the Cathedral-Basilica of St. Mary of Padua. The basilica is known locally as "il Santo". Day 4 >> Fri. September 7: (Padua - Florence) Padua and from the train station to your hotel in Florence. Train tickets from Padua to Florence will be arranged for your group. 4 nights in twin rooms with private bathrooms incl. breakfast at the 3-star Hotel Annalena in Florence Morning: After breakfast, check out of your hotel and board your train to Florence. The train ride will last approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. Leave your luggage at the hotel and start discovering Florence during a short lunch break on your own. Afternoon: Meet your faculty leader for a leisurely walking tour of Florence. During the tour you will see the Ponte Vecchio and the Basilica Santa Maria del Fiore including admission to the Baptistery and the Duomo Museum, which houses what has been called "one of the world's most important collections of sculpture". Among the museum's holdings are Lorenzo Ghiberti's doors for the Florence Baptistery called the Gates of Paradise, the cantorias, or singing-galleries, designed for the cathedral by Luca della Robbia and Donatello and "The Deposition", a pietà intended by Michelangelo for his own tomb. Afterwards, continue your tour to the Abbey of San Miniato al Monte. Day 5 >> Sat. September 8: (Florence) Morning: Meet your faculty leader for a group meeting at a café nearby. Afterwards, start off your day with a visit to the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Carmine and the Basilica di Santa Croce (admission included). During your visit of the Santa Croce, you will see the Bardi chapel and the Peruzzi chapel. The Opera di Santa Croce is the principal Franciscan church in Florence and a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church. The site, when first chosen, was in marshland outside the city walls. It is the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, Foscolo, Gentile and Rossini, thus it is known also as the Temple of the Italian Glories. Afternoon: Enjoy a FREE AFTERNOON to explore Florence on your own. Consider visiting the Boboli Gardens, a park and home to a collection of sculptures dating from the 16th through the 18th centuries, with some Roman antiquities. The mid-16th century garden style, as it was developed here, incorporated longer axial developments, wide gravel avenues, a considerable "built" element of stone and the lavish employment of statuary and fountains. Day 6 >> Sun. September 9: (Florence) Morning: Begin your day with a visit to the Galleria degli Uffizi (admission included). Its collection of Primitive and Renaissance paintings comprises several universally acclaimed masterpieces of all time, including works by Giotto, Simone Martini, Piero della Francesca, Fra Angelico, Filippo Lippi, Botticelli, Mantegna, Correggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo and Caravaggio. German, Dutch and Flemish masters are also well represented with important works by Dürer, Rembrandt and Rubens. Afternoon: Continue your afternoon with a visit to the Galleria dell Accademia (admission included), an art museum in Florence. It is the home of Michelangelo's sculpture David. It also has other sculptures by Michelangelo and a collection of Renaissance paintings. It adjoins the academy of fine arts of Florence, but despite the name has no other connection with it.

3 Day 7 >> Mon. September 10: (San Gimignano - Siena) A private coach bus will be chartered exclusively for your group s excursion today. Morning: Board your private bus and travel to San Gimignano. Upon arrival, start your day with a visit to the Collegiate Church (admission included) to see its fresco cycles which include works by Domenico Ghirlandaio, Benozzo Gozzoli, Taddeo di Bartolo, Lippo Memmi and Bartolo di Fredi. The basilica is located within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the "Historic Centre of San Gimignano", with its frescos being described by UNESCO as "works of outstanding beauty". Afterwards, continue your morning with a visit to the Palazzo Communale (admission included), which contains important fresco decorations by Memmo di Filippuccio, Lippo Memmi and others, a museum and a gallery with works of the Florentine and Sienese schools of art - including paintings by Coppo di Marcovaldo, Lippo Memmi, Benozzo Gozzoli, Filippino Lippi, Il Sodoma and Pinturicchio. Afternoon: Refueled by lunch at your own expense in San Gimignano, board your private bus and continue to Siena. Upon arrival, enjoy your visit to the Duomo di Siena (admission included), which was originally designed and completed between 1215 and 1263 on the site of an earlier structure. It has the form of a Latin cross with a slightly projecting transept, a dome and a bell tower. Afterwards, visit the Palazzo Pubblico (admission included), which is considered one of the finest examples of gothic secular architecture. Formerly the residence of the city s Signoria, the building is now the seat of the town council. Of all the buildings that look onto Piazza del Campo, the Palazzo Pubblico is the most imposing and stands as the natural center of the square s architectural perspective. Day 8 >> Tues. September 11: (Florence - Arezzo - Cortona) Florence. Train tickets from Florence to Arezzo will be arranged for your group. Public transportation from Arezzo to Cortona in the afternoon and return. 1 night in twin rooms with private bathrooms incl. breakfast at the 3-star Hotel L Aretino in Arezzo Morning After breakfast, check out of your rooms and depart for Arezzo. After an approximate 1 hour and 30 minutes train ride, you will arrive in Arezzo. Walk to your hotel, check into your rooms and meet your faculty leader for a group meeting at a café nearby. Then, start off your morning program with a visit to the Basilica of San Francesco with the Piero della Francesca frescoes in Arezzo (admission included). The theme of the fresco cycle is from the Golden Legend by Jacopo da Varagine. Piero della Francesca did not follow a chronological order, preferring to concentrate himself in the creation of symmetrical correspondences between the various scenes. Afternoon: Refueled by lunch at your own expense, travel by public transportation to Cortona. Upon arrival in Cortona, enjoy your visit to the Dioscesan Museum (admission included), which houses works of art by artists such as Fra Angelico, Pietro Lorenzetti, Bartolomeo della Gatta, Luca Signorelli and Sassetta. The oldest item in the museum is a marble Roman sarcophagus (2nd century AD), depicting the battle of Dionysus. Afterwards, continue your day with a visit to the Palazzo Pretorio with its Etruscan Academy Museum (admission included). The museum currently consists of two main sections respectively devoted to the Accademia Etrusca and the Etruscan and Roman city of Cortona. Day 9 >> Wed. September 12: (Arezzo - Assisi) Train tickets from Arezzo to Assisi will be arranged for your group. A private coach bus or taxis will be chartered exclusively for your group s transportation from the train station to your hotel in Assisi. 2 nights in twin rooms with private bathrooms incl. breakfast at the 3-star Hotel San Francesco in Assisi Morning: After breakfast, check out of your room, walk to the train station and depart for Assisi. After an approximate 1 hour 30 minutes train ride, you arrive in Assisi. Check into your rooms and start off your program in Assisi with a visit to the Basilica di San Francesco (admission included). It is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor, commonly known as the Franciscan Order, in Assisi, the city where St. Francis was born and died. The basilica is one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. The Upper and Lower Churches are decorated with frescoes by numerous late medieval painters from the Roman and Tuscan schools, and include works by Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini, Pietro Lorenzetti and possibly Pietro Cavallini. Afternoon: Enjoy a free evening in Assisi. You may consider visiting Assisi Cathedral, a major church in Assisi that has been important in the history of the Franciscan order. In this church Saint Francis of Assisi (1182), Saint Clare (1193) and many of their original disciples were baptised.

4 Day 10 >> Thurs. September 13: (Montefalco - Assisi) A private coach bus will be chartered exclusively for your group s excursion today. Morning: Board your private bus and travel to Montefalco. Upon arrival in Montefalco, enjoy your visit to the Museo San Francesco Montefalco (admission included). The museum has had its premises in the St. Francis Church and in the attached Convent since The church was built between 1335 and 1338 and hosted a painting work-site of noticeable importance, above all for the presence of Benozzo Gozzoli, author of the decorations contained in the St. Girolamo Chapel and in the apse. The scenes from the life of St. Francis (1542) are to be counted among the most important well-maintained painting of the cycles of the Renaissance. Afternoon: Enjoy some FREE TIME for lunch at your own expense, before you return by private bus to Assisi. Enjoy a free afternoon in Assisi and discover the city further on your own. Day 11 >> Fri. September 14: (Assisi - Rome) Assisi and from the train station to your hotel in Rome. Train tickets from Assisi to Rome will be arranged. 5 nights in twin rooms with private bathrooms incl. breakfast at the 2-star Hotel Parlamento in Rome Morning: Check out of your rooms and board the train to Rome. After an approximate 2 hours train ride, you will arrive in the capital of Italy. Leave your luggage at the hotel and have some lunch at your own expense. Afternoon: Enjoy a leisurely walking tour of Rome led by your faculty leader. During the walking tour you will see many sights of Rome such as San Pietro in Vincoli, Piazza di Spagna, San Luigi dei Francesi, the Pantheon, Santa Maria della Vittoria and many more (all from the outside - admission is not included). Day 12 >> Sat. September 15: (Rome) Morning: Begin your day with a visit to the Roman Forum and Palatine (admission included). The Roman Forum is the central area around which the ancient Roman civilization developed. It served as a city square and central hub where the people of Rome gathered for justice and faith. The Palatine Hill was the most exclusive address in Rome during the Republic, and during the Empire it became the location for ever grander palaces. During your visit, you will also see the Church of Santa Maria Antiqua (to be confirmed), the oldest and most important Christian monument in the Roman Forum. On its walls it is preserved an exceptional collection of murals (about 250 square meters), ranging from the period of the foundation (VI sec.) up to the VIII sec. They are unique testimonies about the art development from the early Middle Ages to Byzantine time. Afternoon: Continue your day with a visit to the Coliseum (admission included), an elliptical amphitheater, which was the first permanent amphitheater to be built in Rome. Its monumental size as well as its practical and efficient organization to control large crowds makes it one of the greatest architectural monuments achieved by the ancient Romans. Day 13 >> Sun. September 16: (Rome) Morning: Start off your day with a visit to the Galleria Borghese in Rome (admission included). It is an art gallery, housed in the former Villa Borghese Pinciana, a building that was from the first integral with its gardens, nowadays considered quite separately by tourists as the Villa Borghese gardens. The Galleria Borghese houses a substantial part of the Borghese collection of paintings, sculpture and antiquities, begun by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V. The Villa was built by the architect Flaminio Ponzio, developing sketches by Scipione Borghese himself, who used it as a villa suburbana, a party villa at the edge of Rome. Afternoon: Your AFTERNOON IS FREE to explore Rome further on your own. You may want to visit the monumental Spanish steps, built between The steps lead up the Pincio hill, on top of which the French Church Trinita dei Monti is located. On the square at the bottom of the steps you can find the Barcaccia Fountain. Day 14 >> Mon. September 17: (Rome) All day: After breakfast, you will visit the Vatican Museums (admission included). During your visit you will see the Niccoline Chapel (to be confirmed), the Borgia Apartments, the Cappella Paolina, the Pinacoteca and the Sistine Chapel. The Sistine Chapel is the best-known chapel of the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City. It is famous for its architecture and its decoration that was frescoed throughout by

5 Renaissance artists including Michelangelo, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Pinturicchio, Domenico Ghirlandaio, and others. Day 15 >> Tues. September 18: (Rome) All day: Enjoy a FREE DAY IN ROME on your own. Consider joining your faculty leader for a trip to Tarquinia to see the Etruscan Necropolis and the ancient Etruscan tombs. Tarquinia also has an Archaeological Museum, which offers one of Italy s best collection of Etruscan finds. Evening: A farewell dinner will be arranged for your group at a traditional restaurant in Rome to wrap up your Italian experience. Day 16 >> Wed. September 19: (Rome) Find your own way to the airport in Rome (at your own expense). You will receive detailed information on how to get to the airport from your coordinator. Begin your journey back home. Arrivederci! Goodbye!
