Day 1/Leonardo Vinci Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci (15 April May 1519) was an Italian polymath, painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, writer, and one of the greatest painters of all time. Born out of wedlock to a notary, Piero, and a peasant woman, Caterina, in Vinci in the region of Florence, Leonardo was educated by the grandfather, after in the studio of the renowned Florentine painter Verrocchio. Much of his earlier working life was spent in the service of Ludovico il Moro in Milan. He later worked in Venice, Bologna, Florence and Rome, and he spent his last three years in Amboise/France, at the manor Clos-Lucé awarded him by Francis I. Highlights: Birth House of Leonardo, about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) from the town Vinci, between Anchiano and Faltognano. The Leonardo Museum in Vinci. Inthe two buildings it occupies, Palazzina Uzielli and the Conti Guidi Castle, the Museum hosts one of the most extensive and original collections devoted to Leonardo the engineer, architect and man of science. Lunch in the de Medici s Villa Artimino. Uffizi Gallery, Florence This is one of the most famous museums of paintings and sculpture in the world. Its collection of Primitive and Renaissance paintings comprises several universally acclaimed masterpieces of all time. The building of Uffizi was begun by Giorgio Vasari in 1560 for Cosimo I de' Medici so as to accommodate the offices of the Florentine magistrates, hence the name uffizi, "offices". 4 Tuscany of Leonardo and Michelangelo Luxury Tuscany Events GmbH Day 2/Michelangelo Florence Casa Buonarroti The building was a property owned by (but never occupied by) the sculptor Michelangelo, which he left to his nephew, Lionardo. The house was converted into a museum dedicated to the artist by his great nephew, Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger. Today it s a Museum. Its collections include two of Michelangelo's earliest sculptures, the Madonna of the Steps and the Battle of the Centaurs. A ten-thousand strong library has accumulated there over the centuries, which includes the family's archive and some of Michaelangelo's letters and drawings. Basilica di San Lorenzo 1419, Giovanni di Averardo di Salvestro de' Medici offered to finance a new church to replace the 11th-century Romanesque rebuilding. Filippo Brunelleschi was commissioned to design it choosing the new Renaissance style. The Basilica is the burial place of all the principal members of the de Medici family from Cosimo di Giovanni to Cosimo III. The church is part of a larger monastic complex. Highlights of Michelangelo: Biblioteca Laurenziana/The Laurentian Library must be considered the most important and prestigious collection of antique books in Italy. It comprises the most lasting cultural inheritance which the de Medici family has passed down to the attention, care and admiration of posterity. Is containing a repository of more than 11,000 manuscripts and 4,500 early printed books, also the manuscripts and books belonging to the private library of the de Medici family. Built under the patronage of the Medici pope, Clement VII, the library is renowned for the architecture planned and built by Michelangelo. Segrestia Nuova/New Sacristy, begun in 1520 by Michelangelo, who also designed the de Medici tombs within. 5 Tuscany of Leonardo and Michelangelo Luxury Tuscany Events GmbH Day 3/Michelangelo Florence Galleria dell Accademia The Galleria dell Accademia, or Accademia Gallery, is most famous for its sculptures by the great Renaissance artist, Michelangelo: the Prisoners, the St.Matthew and, especially, the statue of David which was transferred here, to the specially designed tribune, from Piazza della Signoria in The main halls also offers visitors works by great Italian artists such as Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Pontormo, Andrea del Sarto, Allessando Allori and Orcagna, to name just a few of the painters. Il Bargello The most important museum of the Renaissance Sculpture in Florence. Masterpieces by Michelangelo: Bacchus Pitti Tondo (or Madonna and Child). The collection includes also Donatello's David and St. George Tabernacle, Jacopo Sansovino's Bacchus, Giambologna's Mercury and many works from the Della Robbia family and Benvenuto Cellini. There are a few works from the Baroque period. The museum also has a fine collection of ceramics (maiolica), textile, tapestries, ivory, silver, armours and old coins. It also features the competing designs for The Sacrifice of Isaac (Sacrificio di Isacco) that were made by Lorenzo Ghiberti and Filippo Brunelleschi to win the contest for the second set of doors of the Florence Baptistery (1401). Basilica Santa Croce The Basilica of the Holy Cross is the principal Franciscan church in Florence. It is situated on the Piazza di Santa Croce, about 800 metres south-east of the Duomo. It is the burial place of some of the most illustrious Italians, such as Leon Battista Alberti, Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Machiavelli, Ugo Foscolo and Rossini. Spot: Tomb of Michelangelo. 3
