Lewis Science: Capital letter alphabet cards, sticks, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, small rocks, and yarn. Discovering Natures Alphabet, by Krystina Castella and Brian Boyl & The Butterfly Alphabet, by K Jell B. Sandved Art: Process Soft pastels, colored pencils, watercolors, cups of water, card stock, different textured paper, a variety of paint brushes, pictures of painted suns from the book Lily Brown s Paintings Product Yellow tempera paint, large paint brushes, paper plates, glue in small cups, small paint brushes, strips of yellow and orange construction paper (1 inch wide and 6 inches long), newspaper for table cover and smocks Writing: Pictures of children s self-portraits, pens, pencils, markers with shades of browns, black, red and yellow, white paper, mirrors Blocks: Foam blocks and hard cardboard tubes, different shaped cardboard, small clip boards with paper and pencils Manipulatives: Magformers, pictures of different types of sculptures and examples of Magformer structures Math: Sorting tray, 2 big foam dice, a variety of collage materials, glue, small cups, small paint brushes, and construction paper in a variety of colors

Lewis The children will be provided the opportunity to express their feelings, thoughts and knowledge about painting and self-portraits as a way to express their knowledge in the content area of language arts. Content Standards: 6.0: Visual Arts- Cross-Curricular.

3 Science: Letter Building Capital letter alphabet cards, sticks, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, small rocks, and yarn. Sandved The children will combine different types of materials, in a variety of ways, to replicate letters (e.g., sticks, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, yarn, and small rocks). This activity will provide the opportunity to identify color, shape and texture and a way to express their knowledge in the content areas of language arts, science and math. Content Standards: 3.0: Creative Thinking- Making Connections; 2.0: Visual Arts Content; 6.0: Visual Arts- Cross-Curricular. CT 3.PK.1 Combine objects in a variety of ways. 5 Writing: Self Portrait Pictures of children s self-portraits, pens, pencils, markers with shades of browns, black, red and yellow, white paper, mirrors The children will begin to recognize various art forms. Pictures of other children s self-portraits and examples of this form of art will be provided to assist children in their understanding of self-portraits. The children will be encouraged to write their name on their self-portrait. This activity will provide a means for the children to express their feelings, thoughts, and knowledge within the content area of language arts. 6 Blocks: Art Construction Foam blocks and hard cardboard tubes, different shaped cardboard, small clip boards with paper and pencils The children can combine the foam blocks, cardboard tubes, and different types of shaped cardboard in a variety of ways. They can express satisfaction when accomplishing this task. If they are faced with challenges they can demonstrate persistence by trying again to build what they are trying to construct. 7 Manipulatives: Magformers Magformers, pictures of different types of sculptures and examples of Magformer structures Magformers will be displayed attractively in trays with pictures of a variety of modern art sculptures and paintings. Children will explore the 3-dimensional aspects of the Magformers which will provide them with a means to express feelings, thoughts, and knowledge in the content area of science and math. The children will have the opportunity to accomplish a task and achieve a goal. They could be faced with a challenge while building with the magformers and may need to demonstrate persistence. They can identify colors and shapes. Content Standard: 2.0: Creative Thinking- Approaches to Learning through Motivation and Persistence; 2.0 Visual Arts- Content; 6.0: Visual Arts- Cross- Curricular. 8 Math: Counting and Collage Sorting tray, 2 big foam dice, a variety of collage materials, glue, small cups, small paint brushes, and construction paper in a variety of colors The children will roll the dice, count the number of dots, and then count out the corresponding number of the collage materials. They will glue the materials to their paper. This activity will provide the opportunity for the children to use this visual arts project to express their knowledge and skills in the content area of math. Content Standards: 6.0: Visual Arts- Cross-Curricular.
