Feature fabric multi-colored medium scale print (Animal print in diagram) ¼ yd. each of 4 tone-on-tone fabrics of different colors for Example: Yellow, Green, Blue, and Orange 1/8 yd. or scrap of Coordinating print multi-colored (Dots in diagram) 1/8 yd. Light print ½ yd. Coordinating stripe multi-colored ½ yd. Polka dot or tone-on-tone for outer border 1 ¼ yd. for Backing It is helpful to utilize a design wall for this modern quilt. Use scant ¼ seam allowance throughout the project. Cutting: Feature fabric: 2 8 ½ squares 2 6 ½ squares 2 4 ½ squares 2 3 ½ squares Yellow tone-on-tone: 2 4 ½ squares Cut 2 strips 2 ½ x Width of Fabric (WOF) from selvage to selvage Sub-cut into 1 2 ½ x 12 ½ strip, 2 2 ½ x 6 ½ rectangles, 4 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles, 2 2 ½ squares Green tone-on-tone: 1 4 ½ square Cut 2 strips 2 ½ x WOF Sub-cut into 2 2 ½ x 12 ½ strips, 2 2 ½ x 8 ½ strips, 3 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles Blue tone-on-tone: Cut 2 4 ½ squares

Cut 4 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles Binding Cut 4 2 ½ x WOF strips Polka dot Outer Border Cut 4 4 ½ x WOF strips Refer to the color diagram and affix all the pieces to your design wall. Construct the units listed below, replacing them on the design wall. Sewing: Sew Orange 2 ½ x 8 ½ strips to sides of Feature 8 ½ square. Press seams toward strips. Sew Orange 2 ½ x 12 ½ strips to top and bottom of Feature square. Press seams toward strips. The block measures 12 ½ square.

Sew 4 ½ Feature square to left end of unit, and sew 4 ½ Light Print square to right end of unit.

5 Quilt Assembly Left Half of Quilt Top Left Quadrant Sew the unit of 3 squares to the left side of the Green 12 ½ block. Press seams toward block. Sew the Blue 2 ½ x 16 ½ strip to the bottom of the quadrant. Press seams toward the Blue strip. Bottom Left Quadrant Sew Yellow 2 ½ x 12 ½ strip to left side of the unit made above. Press seam toward Yellow strip. Sew Light Print 2 ½ square to Coordinating Print 2 ½ x 14 ½ strip. Press Seam toward strip. Sew this strip to the bottom of the Bottom Left Quadrant. Press seam toward the strip. Sew Four Patch to Blue Square in the Middle. Press seam toward Four Patch. Sew Yellow Square in the Middle to Feature 6 ½ square. Press seam toward Feature square. Sew Stripe 2 ½ x 12 ½ strip between these two units. Press seam toward strip.

Join Top Left and Bottom Left Quadrants by sewing the 2 ½ x 16 ½ Blue

Right Half of Quilt Join Blue Square in the Middle block with Feature 6 ½

Sew the unit of eleven 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles to the right side of the unit

6 Join Top Left and Bottom Left Quadrants by sewing the 2 ½ x 16 ½ Blue strip between the quadrants. Press seam toward Blue strip. Right Half of Quilt Join Blue Square in the Middle block with Feature 6 ½ square. Sew Stripe 4 ½ x 12 ½ rectangle below this unit. Press seam toward rectangle. Sew the Orange/Feature 12 ½ block below this unit. Sew the unit of eleven 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles to the right side of the unit made above. Press seams away from the rectangles. Sew the Light Print 2 ½ x 16 ½ strip above the unit of 4 ½ squares: Green, Blue, Yellow, Feature. Press seam toward the strip.

Then join the units together. Press seam toward Light Print strip.

Sew the unit of twelve 2 ½ x 4 ½ rectangles with 4 ½ end squares to the top of

Borders Measure the quilt from side to side through the center, ideally 32 ½. Cut 2 Polka dot 4 ½ wide strips this length. Pin and sew these strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press seams toward the border.

Measure the quilt from top to bottom through the center, ideally 40 ½. Cut 2 Polka dot 4 ½ wide strips this length. Pin and sew these strips to the sides of the quilt. Press seams toward the border.

8 Measure the quilt from top to bottom through the center, ideally 40 ½. Cut 2 Polka dot 4 ½ wide strips this length. Pin and sew these strips to the sides of the quilt. Press seams toward the border. Quilt Sandwich quilt backing, batting and top; baste with quilt pins or basting stitches. Quilt with an all-over, edge-to-edge design such as loops and double loops in variegated thread. Binding Join the 4 2 ½ strips of Stripe fabric with straight seams. Press seams open. Press binding in half, wrong sides together. Apply binding by machine to front of quilt. Turn binding to back of quilt and hand stitch in place.
