TENSION This handknit has been designed at a tension of 22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles. To work a tension square, using 4.00mm needles, cast on 33 sts. Work 44 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully. If less sts to 10cm use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles. Beg Rib Band 1st row K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1. 2nd row K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Rep last 2 rows 13 times 28 rows rib in all. Change to 4.00mm needles. Note If number of stitches after increase row does not fit comfortably on a pair of needles, we suggest using a circular needle. Next row K2, * K2, inc in next st, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2 208 sts. Purl 1 row. Advanced Beg Patt Note When changing colours in centre of row, twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of the colour just used, making sure both yarns are worked firmly at joins. Always change colour on wrong side of work. We suggest making bobbins from cardboard or purchasing yarn bobbins. To Make A Bobbin Cut a piece of cardboard 5cm x 9cm and make a diagonal slit approx 2cm long in one side. Wind a quantity of yarn around cardboard and place end through slot to hold. Unwind only enough yarn to knit required sts, then replace yarn in slot keeping bobbin close to work. Note For ease of working, graph can be printed in four A4 sections (A, B, C, D) then joined together (see page 3). If preferred, full graph can be printed on a single page. Work 6 row stocking st stripes in colours as folls C9, C17, C4, C13, C15, C2, C7, C8 then C16. Cast off loosely. NECKBAND Note We recommend using mattress stitch to sew up your handknit. Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, using 3.25mm needles and C1, knit up 32 sts evenly along right front neck edge to shoulder, knit up 8 sts evenly along right side of back neck, knit up 31 sts across back cast off sts, knit up 8 sts evenly along left side of back neck to shoulder, then knit up 32 sts evenly along left front neck edge 111 sts. Work 9 rows rib as for Back, beg with a 2nd row. 10th row * Rib 15, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 3 sts, rib 3 99 sts. Work 9 rows rib. 20th row * Rib 13, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 3 sts, rib 3 87 sts. Work 9 rows rib. 30th row * Rib 11, sl 1, K2tog, psso, rep from * to last 3 sts, rib 3 75 sts. Cast off in rib. RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT FACINGS With right side facing, using 3.25mm circular needle and C1, beg above lower band knit up 184 sts evenly along right front edge to beg of neckband. Knit 1 row (foldline). Work 10 rows stocking st, beg with a knit row. Cast off loosely. Rep on left front edge, knitting up sts from beg of neckband to top of lower band. TO MAKE UP Placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly between coloured threads. Join side and sleeve seams. Fold facings to wrong side at knit ridge and slipstitch in place. 2

3 GRAPH ASSEMBLY Section C Join Section D Join Join Section B Join Section A WOOLWIND/INTARSIA This technique is used to knit blocks of different colours, avoiding the extra bulk of Fair Isle knitting. When using this method, you will need a separate ball for each section of colour. The different coloured yarns are twisted over each other at the join to prevent holes. Twist the colour to be used underneath and to the right of the colour just used making sure both yarns are worked firmly at joins. Always change colours on the wrong side of work so colour change does not show on right side.
