1 Projects Tooth Fairy Pillow Tooth Fairy Patchwork Pillow This adorable Tooth Fairy pillow is easy to make and will be a memento for you and your little one to cherish for a lifetime! 2 Tooth template (see last page of project instructions) General Sewing Supplies: Baby Lock sewing machine Black and White Madeira Aerofil Thread Scissors Iron and ironing board Fabric marking pen with disappearing ink Pins Point turner or chopstick Hand sewing needle (optional) *This project uses a ¼ seam allowance, unless noted otherwise. If you don t have a ¼ foot with guide, use the piecing stitch on your machine. This allows you to get an accurate ¼ seam allowance by lining the edge of the fabric up with the edge of the presser foot. Instructions: 1. Let's start by preparing our tooth piece to be appliqued to the center front piece of the pillow. First, lay your piece of stabilizer over the tooth template to trace the face and to mark the start and stop sewing points. Be sure you are tracing these elements on the front, soft side of the stabilizer. Next, following package instructions, fuse the 4 1/2" piece of fusible stabilizer to the piece of stiff white felt. Be sure to press on the felt side, so you don't iron away the traced face. The soft feel of the stabilizer will serve as the front of the tooth applique piece. 2. Using the tooth template and fabric marking pen, trace the tooth shape onto the front of the applique piece. Cut out the tooth. 3. Using white thread, top stitch about 1/8" from the raw edge of the entire tooth piece. 4. Using a short, tight zigzag stitch and black thread, sew along the traced smile line. After you've stitched the smile, use the eyelet stitch, setting the length and width to 5mm, to create a circle over the eye markings. Or, sew over the marked eyes with the same short, tight zigzag stitch to create a circular shape for the eye. 3 each eye with a short straight stitch. The face details can also easily be created using hand or machine embroidery, if you prefer. 5. Now we're ready to applique the tooth to the 4 1/4" center square. Center the tooth piece on top of the fabric square and pin. Using a shortened blanket stitch and white thread, start sewing at the mark on the right. Continue sewing slowly around the curves of the tooth, stopping when you get to the mark on the left of the tooth. Be sure to reinforce your stitches at the beginning and end of your stitch line. This creates the pocket for the real tooth! Tip: When using the blanket stitch, make sure the needle is catching the fabric just along the outside edge of the tooth piece as it does the vertical part of the blanket stitch. The horizontal part of the blanket stitch will catch the tooth applique piece. 6. Lay out your center piece and arrange your 12 mini charm squares around the center piece of fabric to determine how you want your pillow to look. Baby Lock Project: Tooth Fairy Patchwork Pillow 3

4 7. Now, we're ready to start piecing the pillow front. Start by sewing squares 1 and 2 together. Next, sew squares 3 and 4 together. Then, you'll sew squares 5-8 together. Lastly, you'll sew squares 9-12 together. This creates the pieced border for the center piece of fabric. 8. Following the diagram above, you'll attach the pieced border sections to the center square of fabric. First you'll create seam A by sewing squares 1 and 2 to the top of square 13, the center square of fabric. Next you'll create seam B by sewing squares 3 and 4 to the bottom of square 13. Then, you'll create seam C by sewing squares 5-8 to the left side of the center section. Baby Lock Project: Tooth Fairy Patchwork Pillow 4

5 Lastly, you'll create seam D by attaching squares 9-12 to the right side of the center section. Tip: When piecing the sides to the center section, place a pin where the seams are supposed to match up. This will help ensure that the seams do in fact match up after sewing. 9. Fuse the ultra soft stabilizer to the wrong side of both the front and back pillow pieces. Once this is complete, lay the pieced pillow front on top of the pillow back with right sides together and pin. 10. Sew the front and back pieces together, leaving a 2"-3" opening at the bottom of the pillow for turning and stuffing. Clip the excess seam allowance from the corners to make turning easier. 11. Now that you're done sewing the front and back together, turn the pillow right sides out. Use a point turner or chopstick to push out the corners. 12. Stuff your pillow to desired fullness. 13. Sew the opening closed by hand or machine. *Print the template at 100%. After printing, measure the black box around the tooth, making sure that it measures at 4 square.
