Finishing Refer to Tutorial 5, p. 27 for assistance. Using Slip Stitch Seam Method, connect CO edge to BO edge. DO NOT fasten off. First Picot Edging Rnd 1: With RS facing, slip loop onto circular needle, pick up and knit 70 (80, 84) [DK: 80 (88, 96)] sts evenly spaced around one edge. Rnds 2-3 [DK: 2-5]: Knit around. Rnd 4 [DK: 6]: [Yo, k2tog] around this will form the picot edge when the hem is folded. Rnds 5-7 [DK: 7-11]: Knit. BO all sts, leaving long yarn tail. Fold hem down with WS facing and using yarn needle and yarn tail, stitch it to the WS of your work, being careful to catch only the back of the knitting as you sew so that it doesn t show on the RS of your work. Second Picot Edging With circular needles, pick up and knit 70 (78, 86) [DK: 80 (88, 96)] sts, evenly spaced around second edge. Complete same as first picot edging. Tie With Tassels Refer to Tutorial 2 at right for assistance. With crochet hook, leaving 4" yarn tail chain approx. 20 (24, 26)" (51 [61, 66] cm) long tie. Leaving 4" (10 cm) yarn tail, fasten off. Weave through holes formed by plait pattern of top of hat. Make two 3.5" (9 cm) long tassels and using yarn tails attach the tassels to tie ends. SCARF With straight needles, CO 114 (144, 162) [DK: 162 (204, 234)] sts. Work in Rapunzel Pattern for 10 rows 1 repeat. BO all sts. DO NOT cut yarn. Finishing With RS facing, slip loop onto crochet hook. Sc evenly along short edge to corner, 3 sc in corner st, sc evenly along long edge, 3 sc in corner st, skip sts along short edge, sc in next corner st keyhole made. Fasten off. Tassels (make 2) WIth tapestry needle and yarn, sew corner sts of flat short edge of scarf. With yarn make two 3.5" (9 cm) long tassels and attach them to scarf edges. Weave in loose ends with a tapestry needle. TUTORIAL 2 Making a Tassel 1. Cut a piece of cardboard 0.5" (1.5 cm) longer than desired length of tassel. 2. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard about times. 3. Cut one strand of yarn approximately 8" (20 cm) long. Thread onto tapestry needle. At the top of cardboard, bring the needle under the wraps of yarn. Remove the tapestry needle and tie wrapped yarn together with both strands of belt yarn tail. 4. At the opposite end of tassel, slide the blade of a scissor between the wrapped yarn and cardboard. Cut the wrapped yarn, freeing it from cardboard. 5. Lay the tassel on a flat surface and with a second 10" (25 cm) length of yarn, wrap tightly around all the strands and tie a tight knot approx. 0.75" (2 cm) from the top. Secure the ends of the wrapping length by threading them under the wraps and down through the center of the tassel. 6. Gently shake out the tassel and trim the ends so they are even. p. 8

Locate center st of each point of short edge, and using tapestry needle, gather them together on each edge of scarf. Weave in loose ends with a tapestry needle. Pompoms (make 2) Using 1.25 (2, 2)" (3.5 [5, 5] cm) pompom maker make 2 pompoms and attach the pompoms to center of each scarf edges. TIP: To make pompoms using piece of cardboard, wrap yarn around 1.25 (2, 2)" (3.5 [5, 5] cm) cardboard about times. Slip wraps off cardboard and tie a piece of yarn tightly around the center of the wraps. Cut both ends of wraps and fluff pompom. Trim. p. 11

Continue to work indicated number of stitches into loop. Pull on yarn tail to close loop. RAMPION PIN Flower Refer to Tutorial 3, p. 21 for assistance. With MC, make one flower. 21 TUTORIAL 3 Rampion Pin Leaving approximately 20" (51 cm), yarn tail of CC (shown: olive), attach MC (shown: lime). Using 1.5" (4 cm) ruler or piece of cardboard, wrap yarn around 80 times (8 groups of 10 wraps each with 0.4" (1 cm) distance). Leaving 10" (25 cm) yarn tail, cut MC. Thread CC1 with tapestry needle and back stitch all groups together across. Slip wraps off ruler and with CC1 and crochet hook, sc around the bottom center of last wrap. 4 Gently pull together all groups. 6 Ch 3, sl st in top of each wrap across. Fasten off.
