2 1 This peasant dress is simple and fun and with the added bow it surely can be called THE BODACIOUS BOW dress. The sleeves are in ¾ or long sleeves. 3 2 These should be the pieces you have cut out: 1 front and 1 back piece 2 sleeves: 3

4 To cut out the armholes: Fold sleeve and main dress piece over widthwise (print direction = vertical) so that your fabric fold is on the left, place armhole cutout into the upper right corner, pin and trim around: Sleeve: Main Dress piece: This is now your front and back dress piece:

5 4 These are the sleeves: To assemble pieces: Place your main dress piece with right side up in front of and place one sleeve into the upper right corner with the armhole curves facing each other:

6 5 Flip the sleeve over and pin both armholes together. Then sew along dashes: Repeat with other side and sleeve: 6

7 Then sew the remaining main dress piece to the sleeves in the same fashion. You should now have a connected piece with 2 sleeves and 2 main dress pieces: Serge/zigzag stitch raw edges. To finish the hems: Serge or zig zag stitch the main dress hems as shown:

8 7 Repeat with both sleeve hems: Fold your sleeve hem 0.5 up and press. Then sew in place as shown with dashes: Repeat with other sleeve.

9 8 To sew in elastic: NOTE: if your machine does not want to shir properly you can use the additional tutorial adding casing for elasticized ribbon ties or use the tutorial for sewing in band elastic. Wind some elastic manually onto your bobbin. I use the shown brand but any brand available at craft/fabric stores will be fine! Wind the thread tight but not too tight. You can pull slightly on your elastic thread while you are winding it up. Spread out your sleeve as shown. Mark the area where you want your elastic to be (ideally go down 2 from the armpit for sizes up to 24m and 3 for up to 2t and 4 for up to size 8 and 6 for up to size 12), with a fabric pen: Insert the bobbin with the elastic thread into your lower part of your machine and thread the upper with regular thread. Insert your sleeve into your sewing machine with right sides up and start sewing right at the edge with a good 4 inches of elastic thread hanging out. Set your machine to the longest stitch length and the tension to 2-3. Sew right along the drawn line. Be sure to check while you are sewing if your elastic thread has not jumped out from over the bobbin. That sometimes happens and will make your elastic not being gathered. If that happens rewind your elastic thread! NOTE: if you are having trouble with your machine not wanting to sew with elastic thread please google this issue with sewing with elastic thread or shirring or visit my blog for 2 interesting posts on that! 9

10 and here: This should now be your sewn in elastic: Repeat with other sleeve. Reset your machine to regular stitch!

11 10 This is what your dress should look like now: To sew the side seams: Pin and sew along the underside of the sleeves down the sides as marked with dashes: 11

12 Repeat with other side. To make the neckline casing: Serge/zig zag stitch the top edge as shown: Fold top edge 0.5 inch down and press, pin and sew in place, leaving a 1.5 opening at the center back. Backstitch beginning and end: 12

13 Secure a safety pin to the band elastic and insert into the casing: Once both ends meet, overlap slightly and hand sew with at least stitches:

14 13 Add care/size tags if desired. Close the opening with your machine. To finish the bottom hem: Fold hem 0.5 inch up and press. Then sew in place right along the serged/zigzag stitched seam. Backstitch the end:

18 1 List of required materials: Sewing machine Scissors Pins Measuring tape or ruler Fabric iron This bodacious bow is just perfect to embellish any girls outfit and add pizzazz! Simply pin it to her dress and she is ready to go! Also great for Mom s garments and to use for decoration! Endless possilibities! Bow shown is pinned to a size 4t dress! Alter measurements to your liking! Cut your fabric: Size Ties bow 0m-18m 25x4" 12x4 2t x x x5 16x5 Yardage is no more than 1/8 yd. These are the pieces you have cut out:

19 2 Take your small piece and fold the left side half way towards the center. Then fold the short edge which is now in the center, over to about 0.5 inch. fold the other side (right side) over towards the center to cover the small fold in the middle:

20 3 You should now have this picture: Pin top and bottom edges and sew between arrows.

21 4 Sew top and bottom with backstitching Turn piece inside out:

22 5 Take your long fabric strip and fold it lengthwise (with right sides together if you have a printed fabric) Pin along open edge and trim corner diagonally if desired:

23 6 Sew open edge leaving a 4 inch opening towards the middle of the strip. Trim off corners: This is your opening: Turn strip inside out and press. Close the opening with your sewing machine:

24 7 Take the small piece now and pinch it as shown: Take your long piece and fold it over the pinches area. Long piece should be positioned centered:

27 1 TUTORIAL to sew in band elastic (wherever shirring doesn t work!) With right side down, draw a line at where you want the elastic,as shown in pink: Cut your elastic (1/4 3/8 width) to about half of what your sleeve/garment s width measures. Pin elastic in sections right onto the drawn line. Best is to first pin both ends to one side seam then pin the center of the elastic to the other side seam. Then pin in sections of about 5 until you have covered the entire sleeve/ garment.

28 2 Set your machine to regular stitch tension and length and leave at least 5 of both threads hanging out! Wrap the thread ends around your left fingers so you will have a good grip on them! Now start sewing with backstitching the beginning and gently hold the threads with your left hand and pull on your garment with pinned elastic towards you. While you are pulling from both sides your elastic should be gently stretched over your garment. Keep sewing right along the pink dashed line, over the pins until your reach the end. 30 1 This tutorial is an optional way of adding elastic (or regular ties) to any garment besides sewing in elastic thread. It s simple and you don t even need a serger! List of required materials: Sewing machine Fabric Scissors Iron Safety pin Pins Elastic- appr. Same width of ribbon (optional) Ribbon (must be 7/8 or narrower) Fray check or lighter to prevent ribbon from fraying Here s your typical dress (or pants, romper, skirt etc.), hanging widely, needs some sort of elastic to define the shape:

31 2 Begin by measuring the garment width. Multiply by 2 (for front and back): Cut a long piece of fabric to the measurements just taken (for front and back = x2), fabric width can vary from 2 to 2.5 for best results. Fabric print direction= vertical:

32 3 Hem all 4 sides. You can use your serger/overlock machine but a regular tighter zigzag stitch is just fine: Fold your fabric strip s long edges in towards the middle and press:

33 4 Unfold the small ends and fold it in, then press: Repeat with other end. Refold long fabric folds (I pinned it for taking the picture better):

34 5 Position your folded fabric strip with wrong side up, then place your garment with back side down on it: Fold both ends over the front of garment and center the gap. Pin in place (preferably OVER a seam) and sew with a straight stitch along the long casing edges. Backstitch beginning and end. Leave both openings open to insert ties:

35 6 This is how it looks now: To make the ties I chose to put some elastic into the middle to make it more comfortable to wear. In this case cut a piece of elastic about half the width of your garment and add the rest in ribbon. Best is to measure the final length by wrapping it around your garment and tieying it so you know what length will be best. Fray check or use lighter on ribbon ends to prevent it from fraying!

36 7 Place elastic ¼ over the ribbon and pin: Sew it with several stitches down. If you use your machine use a tight stitch (stitch length at 1.5-2). Repeat with other side:

37 8 Secure a safety pin to end of ribbon and insert it into the casing: If your safety pin damaged the end of your ribbon, trim it off and reseal with fray check. DONE! Enjoy your GREAT fitting garment with a fun touch!
