5 Trip of a lifetime Fly around the world with Google Earth 1: Enter flight simulator mode - Press +Option+A. Note: You can re- enter flight simulator mode any time by clicking Tools>Enter Flight Simulator in the top menu bar. 2: Set up your display panel press H 3: Set up your aircraft - You can choose from two different planes: 1. SR22: Good for beginner pilots, this aircraft is a more traditional passenger plane and goes a little slower. 2. F- 16: Known as the Viper, this aircraft is good for more advanced pilots. It climbs straight up and still accelerates. 4: Choose where to start your flight To start from your current location, choose Current View. To start from an airport, choose Airport and pick an airport from the drop- down list. Note: To change your aircraft, start location, or controller, you must exit the flight simulator first. Learn to read the flight display panel Once you have entered the flight simulator, a head- up display (HUD) appears: 5

6 1. Speed (knots) 2. Heading 3. Bank angle 4. Vertical speed (feet per minute) 5. Exit flight simulator feature 6. Throttle 7. Rudder 8. Aileron 9. Elevator 10. Flap and gear indicators 11. Pitch angle (degrees) 12. Altitude (feet above sea level) To hide or display the HUD, press H. You can use a mouse with the flight simulator feature. To use a mouse, click the mouse in the center of the screen so the cursor becomes a + (cross). To pause or resume the flight simulator at any time, press the space bar. To take off, first press the Page Up key to increase thrust and move the aircraft down the runway. Once your plane is moving, move the mouse or joystick back slightly down. With enough speed, you take off. To change direction or bank the aircraft, make small motions with the mouse or joystick. Be careful not to over- correct. Once the wings are level, center the mouse. To look around, press the arrow keys + Alt (slow) or CTRL (fast). 5: Control take- off and landing speeds with the thrust control The thrust is the force used to take off and land the plane. On Windows & Linux computers: To accelerate, press Page Up. To slow down, press Page Down. 6: Roll and tilt the plane with the aileron The ailerons let you roll and tilt the plane: To roll or tilt the plane right or left, press the right or left arrow. To center the plane, press C or 5. 6

7 7: Pitch or point the plane with the elevator controls The elevators let you pitch or point the plane up and down. Adjust the elevator controls manually You can decide how much you want to point the plane up or down: To point the nose of the plane down, press the Up arrow. To point the nose of the plane up, press the Down arrow. Change the default position of the elevators To point the plane point slightly upward, press Home or Shift+Up arrow. To point the plane slightly downward, press End or Shift+Down arrow. 8: Yaw or steer the plane with the rudder controls The rudder controls let you yaw or steer the plane: To center the plane, press C or 5. To steer your plane left, press Insert or Shift+Left arrow. To steer your plane right, press Enter on the number keypad or press Shift+Right arrow. 9: Fly faster using the flap controls The flap controls let you increase or reduce speed while flying: To reduce speed, press the Left bracket or Shift+F. To increase speed, press the Right bracket or F. 10: Land your plane with the landing gear controls If your aircraft has retractable landing gear, press G to extend and retract it. 11: Slow down your plane with the brakes You can use the brakes to slow the plane down when you re on the ground: To use the left wheel brake, press the comma key. To use the right wheel brake, press the period key. 12: Exit flight simulator Press +Option+A or Escape. 7
