Nominees for the Discipline of Geology: Jeremy Peters FAusIMM CP (Min, Geo) *Anthony Osman FAusIMM CP(Geo) Jeremy Peters FAusIMM CP (Min, Geo) Principal Consultant, Corporate Division Snowden Mining Industry Consultants Mining Engineering and Geology Jeremy is a Mining Engineer and Geologist with some 24 years exploration, open pit, underground, management and consulting experience. Were he to be appointed to the Board, heis contribution will be toward the active promotion of Professional Development and mentoring. Jeremy successfully bridges Mining Engineering and Geology as a Chartered Professional in both disciplines and undertakes exploration management, scoping and feasibility study and Reserve estimation assignments in addition to his Corporate work at Snowden. A current project involves the drafting of a CRIRSCO-aligned Reporting Code for Mongolia, which has exposed him to the structure of a Professional Organisation and its manner of recognition of Chartered Professionals. He has contributed to the drafting of Chartered professional and Professional Development rules for the Mongolian Professional organisation (MPIGM). This has developed a strong interest in and views on the role of Professional Organisations in fostering and recognising excellence. He recognises a relationship between the ststus of a CP and the public s view of mining industry professionals. Jeremy s view is that the Professional Organisation and CP Board is ultimately the arbiter of quality in the industry. While there is a necessity for disciplinary procedures, a far more effective approach is for the standards required of a CP to be implicit, particularly in relation to an understanding of resporting codes and their implications. A CP must be aware of current industry practise, which is what mandatory Professional Development is about. A CP must be prepared and capable of mentoring less-experienced colleagues for the benefit of all parties. Jeremy is an advisor to major stock exchanges in relation to reporting codes and listing compliance and he prepares and presents Snowden s Mining Engineering-related courses in addition to his consulting work and lectures at the Western Australian School of Mines. I have been involved in operational geotechnical engineering (Rock Mechanics) as well as drilling and blasting underground and open pit hard rock mining since I have been involved in the mining profession as a geotechnical engineer in projects and operations across Africa; Australia; Canada and Europe in several mineral commodities including diamonds, gold, and base metals. Except for being a registered member, I have no previous involvement as a committee member with The AusIMM. My interest as a board member is not to change but to maintain and uphold status quo standard of professional membership applications and reviews. Page 3 of 11

4 Jacquelyn Purcell (Monk) MAusIMM CP(Geotech) Senior Geotechnical Engineer LDO Geotechnical Engineer At Sydney University, I studied civil engineering after which I commenced a 2 year graduate program in rock mechanics at Mount Isa Mines. My keen interest and enthusiasm resulted in being fast-tracked and placed into normal rock mechanics duties, where I stayed for a further 3 years. Following MIM I commenced work as a geotechnical consultant in the coal industry, with Strata Engineering (who were later purchased by Golder) where I stayed for approximately 3.5 years. About 6 months ago I helped start a geotechnical division as part of a larger group of coal businesses; namely LDO. Also, I am currently the secretary for the Eastern Australian Ground Control Group, which I have been involved in for approximately 5 years. Whilst I am a relatively young professional (30 years), I am interested in being on the board of chartered professionals in order to improve standards within our industry, which I am very passionate about. Honesty, integrity and sound engineering judgement is more difficult to come by than you would expect, I m afraid - however I feel that these qualities are essential for chartered engineers. Safety and reliability relies upon suitably qualified and experienced people making significant decisions, and such people need to be properly qualified. The mining industry has in the past been indifferent to the chartered (and RPEQ) processes, and this needs to stop. There are a significant number of people being placed in jobs that they are not suitably qualified for. More focus needs to be put on professional development of people in mining, similar to all other engineering disciplines. I would love to assist the committee in making the process the best it can be; ensuring that obtainment of CP status is awarded to suitable candidates and that recipients are proud to uphold the title. 5 *Ross Seedsman FAusIMM CP(Geotech) Consultant Seedsman Geotechnics Pty Ltd Geotechnical engineering Ross has consulted to the Australian and International coal industry for over 25 years in both the surface and underground sectors. His approach to mine geotechnical engineering is based on his qualifications and experience in geology and civil engineering. He has been a regular contributor to the Coal Operators conferences held annually in Wollongong and the EAGCG. Practical advances in mine geotechnical engineering come from operators and consultants developing their knowledge, applying it to their operations and then sharing experiences with their colleagues. The Chartered Professional Board of the AusIMM has a key role in facilitating, encouraging, and recognising this process for the benefit of its members. After a period of rapid growth in the number of Chartered Professionals, the Board needs to better clarify its processes and in particular provide clearer guidelines for continuing professional development. *Peter Hills FAusIMM CP(Geotech) Principal Mining Geotechnical Engineer Pitt & Sherry Engineers Geotechnical (Mining) Peter has 33 years mining industry experience in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Currently Principal Geotechnical Engineer with Pitt&Sherry Engineers, Peter was previously Technical Services Manager at the Beaconsfield Mine throughout its modern production history. He also has worked at Mt Lyell and Porgera and in Sydney. Peter has been involved with the Tasmania Branch over many years, where he is currently Chair. In recent years, Peter has served on diverse AusIMM conference committees including UGOPS(3), MillOps(2), Mine Geology(1) and Narrow Vein(1) and attended the last four Congresses. Peter has been a member of the Chartered Professional Board for the past two years. During this period he has been keen to promote the Chartered Professional program and ensure that the value of CP status is enhanced wherever possible. This means that obligations of CP status must be maintained and enhanced over time. It also means that requirements for meeting CP obligations must be transparent and readily understood by all those who have attained or wish to attain CP Accreditation. His ongoing objective is to see this happen. Finally, there is a need for management of the CP program to evolve as the number of CP Accredited members increases; this will be a challenge for the CP Board moving forward and process is ongoing. 6 Johann van Wijk FAusIMM CP(Geotech) General Manager, Adelaide AMC Consultants Pty Ltd Geotechnical Johann commenced his career as a mining engineer in underground mining approximately 25 years ago. He has held a variety of production, mine planning, technical and management roles and has specific expertise in geotechnical engineering, rock mechanics, risk management, and management of technical teams, in underground and surface mines. Professional affiliations: Fellow of The AusIMM (Chartered Professional (Geotech)) Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (Mining(Geotechnical)) Member of the Bowen Basin Underground Geotechnical Society Fellow of the South African National Institute of Rock Engineering Johann s career in mining includes 20 years with BHP Billiton, where he was group manager of rock engineering, from 1999 to As the group manager for rock engineering, Johann held full responsibility for the design, implementation, management, and monitoring of all geotechnical aspects for up to twelve underground and surface mines. These mines included some of the largest underground and surface mines in the world, with a wide variety of complex geotechnical challenges. He commenced his career in consulting in 2007 and has since managed and executed a wide range of consulting assignments. Throughout his career, Johann has had a keen interest in furthering the interests of the industry and ensuring that a high level of professionalism is instilled through serving on various industry committees, including the following: President of the South African National Institute for Rock Engineering (SANIRE) (2007) Vice President of SANIRE ( ) Chairman of the Rock Engineering Technical Advisory Committee for the Safety in Mines Research Advisory Committee ( ) Examiner for the Rock Mechanics Certificate, University of South Africa ( ) Member of the Technical Reference Group, Mining Qualifications Authority ( ) I am interested in continuing my industry involvement through serving on the Board of Chartered Professionals to ensure that high ethical and professional standards are maintained in the mining industry. Company Director Over 50 years of professional experience as a mining engineer dealing with underground and open cut and placer mining both within Australia and overseas in iron ore, base metals, gold, Uranium and lateritic nickel. As a councillor, played a major role in moving for and setting up the AusIMM Chartered Professional system and have been active on the CP Board since 2000 either as Vice Chairman or as Chairman. Also acted as Convenor of the JORC committee and gained the AusIMM Council s acceptance that the ore reserves guidelines should become the JORC Code in the late 1980s. This included the running of a symposium and a series of workshops on resources and reserves. At present consulting in a sand mining and masonry operation and a lateritic nickel project. Peter George Onley FAusIMM CP(Man) Retired N/A Management I worked from 1970 to 2014 in the mining industry, including 15 years with Rio Tinto (CRA Exploration) and 30 years as a consultant. I was previously a board member of two ASX listed companies and a board member of Golder Associates Pty Ltd a private company which employed over 1200 staff with a turnover of more than $200 million annually in Australia and a board member of Golder Associates (Africa) Pty which employed over 350 staff. I was a member of the GSWA Liaison Committee for more than a decade until June I served as an AusIMM Perth Branch committee member for many years and was Branch Chairman for two years in the 1990s. I was a founding member of the AusIMM Geoscience Committee and in 2001 was appointed to a three man taskforce charge with reviewing the operations of the Valmin Code. I would like the CP Board to achieve consistency in its CP appointments and continue to maintain high professional standards of the Institute s Chartered Professionals. Page 7 of 11

8 Colin Roberts FAusIMM CP(Man) Director Natural Resource Geo-strategy Management (MINING) Professor Colin Roberts possesses over 40 years of multi-disciplinary resource industry experience; much of which has been in developing world. A graduate of the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) - Curtin University, the Centre for Energy, Petroleum & Mineral Law & Policy (CEPMLP) - University of Dundee, Churchill College Cambridge and Queen Mary College - University of London; he is a chartered petroleum engineer, chartered mining engineer, and chartered scientist; additionally qualified in resources law & policy, international investment law, international competition law and international commercial and investment arbitration. Roberts serves the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) - World Bank Group as an Authorised Emissary, the Pakistan Prime Minister s Secretariat as Honorary Investment Consul for Australia, the boards and committees of the AusIMM-Consultants Society/WA branch (~5-years), AMPLA-WA (4-years), CIArb - Australia (4-years), AIE-WA (3-years), Dispute Board Federation (5-years), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (12- years), immediate past-chairman SPE-WA and past-president Mining Institute of Scotland (IMMM) for whom he conducts interviews for Australia-based chartered professional candidates. For a living, Colin is director of Natural Resource Geo-Strategy where he advises governments on resources policy and foreign direct investment and advises transnational corporations on political risk mitigation. He is also an international arbitrator and mediator at the Centre for International Dispute Resolution. In addition, he is professor at the Department of Petroleum Engineering - Curtin University, a fellow of the AusIMM, SAIMM, IMMM, Energy Institute-UK (EI), Australian Institute of Energy (AIE), Dispute Board Federation (DBF), Genève and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). Professor Roberts current interests are in the professional development of young professionals in the Resources Industries. He would like to assist the Chartered Professionals Board to continue to provide recognition and maintain the prestige to those who are worthy, subsequently providing the same to our industry. 10 **Chris Carr FAusIMM CP(Min) Mining Consultant Self Employed Mining BE (Mining), MBA, MSc (Mineral Economics), FAusIMM(CP), GAICD, RPEQ Chris has 28 years experience in hard rock mining predominantly underground in base metals and gold, with both in-house and contracting roles. He led the Ernest Henry Underground project from pre-feasibility through to the final stages of shaft development, and is currently consulting to the mining industry. Jan Coetzee MAusIMM CP(Min) Senior Mining Engineer Peabody Energy Mining My mining experience spans a period of 24 years in Gold, Coal, Platinum, UG2, Zinc, Lead, Silver and Copper. I have specific experience in Geology, Draughting, Survey, Mining Engineering, Rock Engineering, Ventilation, Information Technology, Contract Management, Studies, and Project Management. I have previously served as a member of the AusIMM Mining Society and the Graduate Program Taskforce. Interests in the Chartered Professionals Board: I recognise the importance of competency in Chartered Professionals and it would be an honour to be part of the team that maintain and improve the high standards of professional development throughout the community. 11 Jodi Wright MAusIMM CP(Min) Principal Mining Engineer AMC Consultants Pty Ltd Mining I am a Chartered Professional member of the AusIMM currently working as a principal mining engineer with AMC Consultants. I have more than 15 years of experience in openpit mining gained in Australia and internationally. I have worked on projects in Australia, Canada, Myanmar, Mongolia, Laos, Bolivia, Peru, Namibia, and Malawi, across numerous commodities including copper, gold, silver, zinc, lead, iron ore, coal, mineral sands, and uranium. I hold a graduate diploma of mining, a bachelor of engineering (geological), and a certificate III in frontline management. My expertise is in mine production, strategic mine planning, open-pit optimization, design, scheduling, equipment selection, and capital and operating costing. I have worked extensively across feasibility, pre-feasibility, and scoping studies in both operational and consulting roles. Over the past two years, I have been a member of the AusIMM Lachlan Branch. I have held the positions of West Wyalong Representative, Committee Member, and most recently, Branch Secretary. I am, however, relocating back to Melbourne, and am looking for my next opportunity to support the AusIMM. I am interested in becoming a Chartered Professional Board Member as I understand the need to formalize the CP process. I also believe that this role would allow me to become more actively involved in the mining industry, continue to grow professionally, and provide the opportunity to support and assist developing AusIMM members. I would like to see the Chartered Professionals Board see an increase in the uptake of membership.
