2 STUART MCCULLOUGH CEO Australian Wool Innovation 9.15AM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Stuart McCullough is CEO of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) - a not for profit company owned by more than 24,000 woolgrowers. Mr McCullough has over 25 years' experience in international business planning, product development management, marketing and sales strategy, strategic alliance negotiation as well as corporate communication experience. Over the past 15 years, Mr McCullough has worked in a variety of roles at AWI where he has been responsible for leading strategic development, transition, establishment and growth of several AWI business units as well as core initiatives. Responsibilities included directing new product innovation and retail commercialisation; initiating, launching and managing the North American AWI operation; leading global shareholders communications through complex animal welfare issues; and acting as the Strategic Advisor to the AWI Senior Executive in times of needed change. Mr McCullough was subsequently appointed CEO in May 2010.
3 RICHARD NORTON Managing Director Meat and Livestock Australia 9.15AM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Mr Norton is the fifth generation of a beef and sheep farming family from Monaro, NSW. He began his working life as a rouseabout and jackaroo then for more than 20 years served livestock producers as a stock agent and auctioneer across NSW. Mr Norton is Managing Director of Meat & Livestock Australia Ltd and is a director of Integrity Systems Company Limited, MLA Donor Company Limited, AUS-MEAT Limited and Red Meat Traceability Systems Pty Ltd. Prior to MLA, Mr Norton held executive positions in retail, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing with Woolworths, Coca Cola, Wesfarmers and Toll Holdings and was a non-executive director of Agrium Asia Pacific, the Australian Wheat Board, RD1 New Zealand, Landmark Harcourts and Australian Wool Handlers. He was head of Live Export and International Trade and then Managing Director of Landmark Operations Australia. He was Chairman of Integrated Traceability Solutions (Global) and AuctionsPlus.
4 ALLAN PIGGOTT President Sheep Producers Australia 11.05AM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Allan and wife Sue own and manage a farming business and the Illoura White Suffolk stud at Moorlands, South Australia, run across 2000 hectares and annually selling 600 White Suffolk rams for the prime lamb industry. Allan s roles in the industry have included many strategic and influential positions including, Chair of the inaugural SA Sheep Industry Blueprint Working Group to set the strategic direction for the SA sheep industry for the next 10 years, Chair of the SA Regional Committee of Southern Australian Meat Research Council (SAMRC), Chair of LambEx 2014 Organising Committee and Chair of the Australian White Suffolk Association. Allan completed the Applied Science course at Roseworthy Agricultural College, and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors Company Directors Course. He currently holds a Board position with Livestock SA and is an Executive Councillor of the Royal Adelaide Show Society. He has previously been the Chair of numerous Natural Resource Management groups and held Board positions with South Australia Sheep Advisory Group and SA Murray Darling Basin Natural Resource Management Board.
5 JOHN LANGBRIDGE Corporate and Industry Affairs Teys Australia 11.15AM THURSDAY 1 MARCH John Langbridge is a veterinarian who worked for the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture for 27 years, then worked as Veterinary Counsel for the Australian Meat Industry Council for five years before accepting his current role of Manager - Corporate and Industry Affairs for Teys Australia. During his time with the Commonwealth he worked in meat processing plants, and has held senior roles in operational management, policy and market access. He has been head of the Australian delegation to the Codex Meat Hygiene Committee, and represented the Commonwealth on the Australian Meat Standards Committee, FSANZ Primary Production and Processing Standard working group, and the Australian Meat Industry Language and Standards Committee. He has participated in a number of bilateral trade negotiations. In his current role he provides technical advice to Teys and their customers, and liaises between Teys, industry, government and customers on issues related to animal welfare, meat production, processing and exports. He also oversees the Teys Research and Development portfolio.
6 SCOTT KOMPO-HARMS General Manager, Trade and Economics National Farmers Federation 11.45AM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Scott joined the NFF in 2016 as the General Manager, Trade and Economics. His career started at the Department of Employment as a macroeconomist. He then went to the Australian Parliamentary Library as a senior researcher, covering issues such as macroeconomic policy and productivity. Scott also has a strong background in advocacy from his time at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Immediately prior to joining the NFF, Scott was a macroeconomic forecaster at Deloitte Access Economics. At the NFF, Scott is charged with driving the Trade and Competitiveness policy agendas.
7 DR STEVE JEFFERIES AM Managing Director GRDC 1.00PM THURSDAY 1 MARCH With more than 30 years of experience in the Australian grains industry, Steve joined the GRDC as Managing Director in 2016, after serving as CEO of Australian Grain Technologies, Australia s largest and market-leading wheat-breeding company, since its inception in From 1996 to 2002, Steve was a wheat breeder, barley breeder and senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide, prior to which he worked in research management and ministerial liaison in the South Australian Government. Steve has also been Chairman of the Australian End Point Royalty Steering Committee, a non-executive director of Birchip Cropping Group and Barley Australia, a member of the Waite Institute Strategic Leadership Group and the Wheat Quality Classification Council at Wheat Quality Australia. In June 2016, Steve was appointed Member of the Order of Australia for his significant services to primary industry.
8 MATTHEW COSSEY CEO CropLife Australia 1.00PM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Matthew Cossey has served as Chief Executive Officer of CropLife Australia since He is also a director of the Agricultural Biotechnology Council of Australia. As CropLife Chief Executive Officer, Matthew leads the national advocacy on crop protection products, agricultural biotechnology and plant science industry stewardship in Australia. Prior to joining CropLife, he was a senior executive with a leading global defence and technology company, was campaign director for a major Australian political party and senior defence policy adviser in the Australian Parliament.
9 PENE NEWITT Team Leader of Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Western Power 3.15PM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Pene Newitt is a Team Leader in the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Function at Western Power. As leader of the Insights and Analytics team, she is responsible for providing actionable information for the business on both current and topical questions. Pene's team are accountable for insights regarding emerging technologies in the customer and commercial space including electric vehicles, community batteries and solar PV distribution. Furthermore they deliver relevant analytics in such areas as value positioning, reliability of supply, revenue protection and health and safety. They use a range of both qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques and constantly seek new ways of solving problems through analytics networks. Pene's passion is to further the Functions objectives of providing readily actionable data for all levels of the business. Pene has been part of the Western Power team for five years in both customer and business strategy. Pene has 15 years' experience in customer analytics for services industries, including banking, superannuation, land development, telecommunications and energy. She has a BA (Hons, Psychology) from the University of Melbourne, post graduate degrees in Marketing and Marketing Research from Swinburne University and is currently studying an MBA at The University of Western Australia.
10 MATT CHENEY Head of Network Planning Western Power 3.15PM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Matt Cheney leads the Network Planning Function at Western Power, with responsibility for the future network strategy and for the development and prioritising of network plans to maintain service and performance standards. Matt's team is accountable for pilot projects including stand-alone power systems, microgrids and a utility scale battery energy storage solution. The objective being to provide the WA community with solutions to deliver power in new, efficient and innovative ways to meet their changing needs. With 20 years' experience in a diverse range of roles and industries Matt has established himself as a versatile asset manager and business leader. He previously formed part of the leadership team that implemented improved asset management practices across the business, focusing on maintaining the integrity of in-service assets. Matt also held primary accountability for the strategic asset management of conductors across the network, plus the implementation of Smart Grid technologies. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace Avionics), and is a member of the Asset Management Council of Australia.
11 BOYD BROWN Area General Manager WA Telstra 3.15PM THURSDAY 1 MARCH Boyd Brown is the Area General Manager for Telstra Country Wide WA. Boyd is focused on customer advocacy and connecting with our local regional stakeholders and customers, and works with his local team on a wide portfolio including infrastructure, market share, media and customer service. Boyd is a Deputy Chair of the WA Telstra Board which focuses around Co-investment opportunities, driving local economic development and local, regional and state business development opportunities, and managing local customer issues. Boyd is also a Director of the Telstra Regional Advisory Council, a group of externally appointed business leaders that help ensure Telstra meets the needs of rural and regional stakeholders and customers. Boyd has 10 years experience with Telstra, three years as Regional Manager in WA responsible for the performance of the Store Network in WA and NT, and six years in Bunbury as Area General Manager for the South West Region. During the past 12 months Boyd is now Area General Manager for WA, and has relocated to Perth.
12 HON. ALANNAH MACTIERNAN MLC Minister for Agriculture and Food; Minister for Regional Development 8.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Minister MacTiernan served in the State Parliament from 1993 to In 2011 she was elected Mayor of the City of Vincent and in 2013 was elected as the Member for Perth to the Federal Parliament, where she became Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Western Australia and Deputy Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Northern Australia. After Ms MacTiernan decided not to recontest Perth in 2016, she was invited to re-join WA Labor in the Legislative Council. After being elected in 2017, she was appointed Minister for Regional Development and Agriculture and Food and Minister Assisting the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade. The Minister is committed to creating economic opportunity in our regional areas as well as bringing WA's agricultural sector into the 21st century through innovation and a focus on investing in science.
13 CHARLIE MASSY Farmer and author 9.00AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Charlie Massy gained a Bachelor of Science (Zoology, Human Ecology) at ANU, before going farming for 35 years, developing the prominent Merino sheep stud 'Severn Park'. Concern at ongoing land degradation and humanity's sustainability challenge led him to return to ANU in 2009 to undertake a PhD in Human Ecology. Charlie was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for his service as Chair and Director of a number of research organisations and statutory wool boards. He has also served on national and international review panels in sheep and wool research and development and genomics. Charlie has authored several books on the Australian sheep industry, including the widely acclaimed Breaking the Sheep's Back and Call of the Reed Warbler.
14 JENNIE FRANCESCHI Co-founder, Fresh Produce Alliance 2017 Telstra WA Businesswoman Award winner (Corporate and Private) 9.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Jennie Franceschi was recently named the 2017 Telstra Australian Corporate and Private Award winner at the National Telstra Business Women s Awards. This comes after being named Telstra Western Australian Business Woman of the Year. Fresh Produce Alliance, of which Jennie is Managing Shareholder, was launched in It is a processing facility that champions a sustainable agriculture ecosystem. Jennie is also Managing Director of Advance Packing and Marketing Services, the home of the 'West N' Fresh', 'Gotta Luv 'Em' and 'Avolicious' brands, and Managing Director of the Avocado Export Company. In 2016, Jennie won Small Business Entrepreneur of the Year, and Fresh Produce Alliance, in the same year, won the Department of Regional Development - Regional and Community Awards for Agricultural Innovation and were the Overall State Winner. Jennie was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Southwest Development Commission in 2017.
15 TRENT KENSETT-SMITH CEO WAFarmers 10.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Trent Kensett-Smith was born and raised in Griffith, NSW on the family farm; an irrigation property supporting a truly mixed farming enterprise. They grew modest herds of cattle, ran sheep for prime lamb production and cropped irrigated crops and pasture. Trent attended Sydney University studying Science in Agriculture. His intent was always to work as an agronomist once he had completed his studies. Upon return to Griffith, he worked in horticulture, but once this job gave way to an opportunity in broadacre agronomy, he grasped the chance and have never looked back. Through the ensuing 20 odd years, Trent has moved through roles with larger and smaller companies in the agribusiness sector on both sides of the country, with Dalwallinu, Melbourne, Hyden, Southern Cross and Narrogin among his WA roots.
16 EMMA WHITE CEO Kimberley Pilbara Cattlemen s Association 10.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Emma White was previously an Executive Director with the Northern Territory Department of the Chief Minister. Her experience includes nearly 20 years working across WA, the Northern Territory and Queensland in various policy development, community relations, stakeholder engagement and Indigenous capacity building roles. This has been primarily from working for government and industry and includes significant exposure to issues relating to Northern Australian Development. Emma has previously worked in both the Kimberley and Pilbara regions and has a comprehensive understanding of the stakeholders and the issues affecting the regions. Emma has a Bachelor degree and Master degree in Economics from UWA.
17 JACKIE JARVIS CEO Rural, Regional, Remote Women s Network of WA 10.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Jackie has held workforce development and public policy roles with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development; the Grain Industry Association of Western Australia (GIWA); Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA), and as the WA/NT State Manager for the Harvest Trail. Most recently she was a Senior Policy Adviser to the Hon Alannah Mac- Tiernan, Minister for Regional Development; Agriculture and Food, before taking up the newly created role of CEO of the re-launched Rural, Regional, Remote Women s Network of WA in November Jackie was the 2014 WA winner of the Agrifutures WA Rural Women s Award. She lives in Margaret River and, together with her husband, operates a commercial vineyard and wine production business.
18 CAM DUMESNY CEO Western Roads Federation 10.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Cam is the CEO of the Western Roads Federation (WRF). WRF represents WA road transport users promoting improved productivity and safety through greater access, investment and recognition of the critical importance of the industry and roads to the WA economy. Cam is a graduate of RMC Duntroon, has Post Grads in Technology Management and Logistics, plus a conferred masters for Predictive Modelling. He has held senior executive roles in Manufacturing, Logistics and Technology and has worked in Asia, USA and the UK.
19 FRED TRONCONE Executive Director - Operations Wellard Limited 10.30AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Fred Troncone is an executive director of the Company responsible for all of Wellard's operations, including shipping and international livestock and meat trading. Fred is a former CEO of Wellard Rural Exports from , so has extensive and important live export experience. He has also worked as a consultant in a range of industries, with a focus on business expansion programs, organisational transformation, digital strategies and business transformation to positively leverage market conditions and business opportunities. His international business credentials include business in Australia, South East Asia, China, the Middle East, Europe and Russia. Fred holds a degree in Business Information Systems, a Master of Business Administration and is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Fred s key strengths are people leadership, commercial management, business restructuring and business transformation.
20 RUSSELL BRESLAND Director Bresland Insurance Group 11.50AM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Russell has over 44 years of experience in the insurance industry - ranging across underwriting, claims, executive management in insurance companies. He has successfully managed his own insurance broking house over many years. Russell s many years of experience serve him well when working with clients, especially those in the rural and Not-For-Profit areas. Russell also serves on the board of a large Not-For-Profit organisation in the Disability sector. Russell was awarded No.1 Elite Broker status by Insurance Business News for Many of Russell s clients have been with him for over 36 years and he is well respected by his clients. He enjoys a "hands-on" approach when working with clients. When not in the office, Russell is a doting grandfather and loves spending time with his grandkids.
21 MIKE NORTON Chair Safe Farms WA 12.45PM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Mike Norton, is involved in a mixed family farming operation based at Capel, including sheep, beef, dairy, feed grain and vegetable production. As Chairman of Safe Farms WA since 2014, Mike fully understands the positive impact of having robust safety systems to increase on-farm efficiencies, productivity and profitability. In 2017, Safe Farms WA developed a new website and comprehensive Farm Safety System a manual supporting industry, incorporating effective solutions for on-farm safety (including Inductions, Policies, Checklists and more), such as progressive safety conscious farmers, pastoralists, vegetable growers and all including in ag production, including small landholders, to work towards compliance with OHS legislation that has been in place since 1984.
22 TERRY SLEVIN Director, Education and Research Cancer Council WA 1.00PM FRIDAY 2 MARCH Terry Slevin is one of Cancer Council's foremost experts on public health research and health promotion and a leading spokesperson on workplace cancer risks and environmental carcinogens. He is a regular media commentator on all aspects of cancer, ranging from causes and early detection, to broader chronic disease prevention including nutrition, physical activity, weight control, alcohol and sun protection. Mr Slevin holds a Masters in Public Health and an Honours degree in Psychology. He is Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology at Curtin University and was previously Vice President of the Public Health Association of Australia. He is the editor of a book on skin cancer Sun, Skin and Health, released by CSIRO Publishing in 2014 and has published over 65 papers in the peer reviewed scientific literature and a series of 15 articles on cancer myths.
