3 The President's Message November s meeting at the Dinosaur BBQ was a great success and Jody Samuell's presentation on "Air Elimination and Dirt Removal in Hydronic Systems" was very well received. Our new downtown meeting venue, 1-hour Open Bar Social and 50/50 raffle have proven to be positive moves for the Chapter as we watch attendance and membership grow. A special thanks to Chris Devins of Trane for donating tickets to the Syracuse University men's basketball game against Holy Cross as this allowed the Chapter to retain the 50/50 raffle funds for Research & Promotion. As Society President Tim Wentz recently put it,.. "You need to be in the room because it's where you connect with the brightest minds in the industry, where you learn from our latest research and where your membership makes a difference". We invite you to join us for an upcoming meeting, YEA / Student Activities event or facility tour. Bring a friend or colleague, enjoy a cold beer on us and be a part of this exciting movement. Thank You and wishing everyone a safe and happy Holiday season. Mark Yonnick, CNY ASHRAE Chapter President

Located at 110 Elwood Davis Road off Buckley Road in Liverpool, NY, this new lab features the Hampden A/C & Refrigeration Trainer donated by the CNY ASHRAE Chapter last spring. Please plan to arrive at 5:30pm and enter through the main doors located at the back of the facility along the NYS Thruway. Dinner by Utica Pizza Company will follow the meeting & tours. Steve Sill, VP CNY Chapter A NOTE FROM THE TREASURER I d like to thank our members for the continued support and involvement in our chapter. After two meetings at our new location, I m happy to report that they are becoming profitable and the chapter seems to be growing. As far as our accounts, all are still in good standing. In relation to our investment accounts, we are still planning to meet with our Morgan Stanley advisors in January to get continued support and optimize our investments. Since our last meeting, we ve also added a Research Promotion tracker. In this, we are adding a separate line item to our monthly treasurer reports to track our income from 50-50s and raffles that will benefit our Research Promotion activities. Geoff Sincavage, Chapter Treasurer

12 STUDENT ACTIVITIES Central New York ASHRAE Chapter is awarded the Region 1 Chapter Opportunity Fund for the first Smart-Start Weekend for Students! The Smart-Start Weekend will be a training program for college students and recent graduates through a weekend workshop. The mission of the program is to recruit the next generation of HVAC&R engineers. The program will promote ASHRAE and provide a background of the HVAC&R industry to current college students as well as recent graduates. The program will educate future engineers about the careers available in the HVAC&R industry. College students and recent graduates are the future engineers that will lead our industry and communities. Introducing students and early career engineers to the HVAC&R industry provides the opportunity to build future leaders and grow ASHRAE. The event will take place in Syracuse, NY this spring. We are looking for volunteers to join us on the day of the event to come talk to the students! Please contact us if you are interested. - Enrica Galasso, Student Activities Chair (enrica.galasso@carrier.utc.com) - Matthew Clark, YEA Chair (matthew.m.clark@carrier.utc.com) Enrica Galazzo, Student Activities Chair

14 DECEMBER 2016 Research Promotion Update Our chapter is working on implementing an additional Research Promotion event this year. The goal is to have an event where we re able to socialize with other members in a fun setting, all while raising money for the RP campaign. In addition to that, we have started a monthly raffle (50/50 or a prize raffle) at our chapter meetings. Last month Trane donated (4) tickets to an SU Basketball game, all proceeds went to the RP campaign. November was donor recognition night, where we were able to honor companies and members who went above and beyond in helping our chapter reach our yearly goals. The following companies and individuals made Bronze level donations ($500 and over): Modular Comfort Systems Don Rich Carrier Corporation The following individuals made contributions to last year s RP campaign as well: Steve Sill Mark Yonnick Chris Devins Jim Hart Chonghui Liu Bill Walter Dr. Arthur Hurlbut Charlie Bertuch Richard Kimball Stephen Miller Edward Wilson, Jr Our chapter also offered to sponsor an attendee from those companies that donate their resources to help make our annual clambake a success. The companies invited were: Day Automation, EM Cahill, Trane, Modular Comfort Systems, Peterson Guadagnolo Consulting Engineers, Siemens, RF Peck, and C&S Companies. Many of you have already contributed to the 2017 RP campaign, and we thank you for your generosity! For those who haven t donated yet, please consider helping our chapter reach our goals for this year s campaign. No donation is too small, and we thank you in advance for your donations! Chris Devins, Research Promotion Chair Donations can be made towards the campaign at the link below: And click the Online Contribution Form link near the top of the webpage. 16 What You Need to Know about the New Energy Standard for Commercial Buildings: Standard ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1, the Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, has been a benchmark and national model code for commercial buildings for over 35 years and is indispensable for engineers and other professionals involved in the design of buildings and building their systems. Now, with many new addenda incorporated since the 2013 edition, Standard will significantly change the way buildings are built as these new modifications find their way into the world's energy codes. This webinar highlights some of the major changes that you can expect to see in building envelope, mechanical system and lighting requirements. In addition, the session will highlight Appendix G, a new compliance path that enables a single, simple performance-based option for both minimum code requirements and above-code programs. This session is for anyone who wants advanced insight into the new Standard s expected impacts on the industry. Speakers: ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Webinar Drake Erbe, Airxchange Inc (SSPC 90.1 Chair) Richard Lord, United Technologies Carrier Corp (SSPC 90.1 Vice Chair) Eric Richman, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Chair, 90.1 Lighting Subcommittee) Michael Rosenberg, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (Member, 90.1 ECB Subcommittee) Registration: Estimated Length: 120 minutes Original Webcast Date: Thursday, December 8, :00pm Time Zone: Eastern Time CEUs Offered: AIA/CEC credits will be offered for the live event on December 8, 2016 Course Type: Webinar Building Type: Commercial Focus: Compliance Code Version: ASHRAE Standard 90.1 From
