Bahrain Leading expert team on high value commercial arbitration resisting contractor claims for loss and expense resulting from delay on iconic housing project. China Advising major state construction company on wrap agreements, on-shore and off-shore contracts for the construction of thermal power plants in Africa. Advising water and power utility on infrastructure contracts in Libya and financial/legal issues with respect to recovery of documentary credits valued at US$ 300m+. Hong Kong leading teams advising contractors and government entities in day to day general construction claims in the region including top down construction of tower projects. Republic of the Philippines Advising on disputes in relation to water supply and the construction of water retaining structures in and around Manila. Saudi Arabia advising two International Contractors on two projects refining claims against dominant Government Oil & Gas major leading to early financial settlement of disputes. Advising US Multinational on commercial aspects of constructing an Aluminium Process Plant and Rolling Mill. Thailand providing advice and assistance in offshore O&G contracting including an agreement for the construction and operation of FPSO and FSO vessels. Appointed as arbitrator in construction arbitration. Mediated disputes between major US and Thai corporations. UAE Advising government entity and reviewing proposed contract for major airfield terminal suggesting changes to contract form where necessary. 3 Arbitration Experience Gordon has experience of more than 200 arbitration cases over a career spanning 34 years in the legal services industry and international commerce as advocate, client representative and lately as Arbitrator and Mediator. He has conducted or represented clients in arbitrations in many countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, United States, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. At the outset, his career primarily concerned disputes in maritime, commodity and charterparty cases. For the past 20 years Gordon has been intimately involved with construction and engineering disputes arising out of the project financing and implementation of major infrastructure projects and disputes within the joint ventures building these. He is a Chartered Arbitrator and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and teaches regularly as an accredited tutor for CIArb courses. He is a member of several arbitration panels and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and master classes in MENA and Asia Pacific regions. Gordon is also accredited as an Adjudicator by KLRCA. He was also invited to arbitrate at the 2015 Vis Moot competition in Hong Kong in which 108 Universities took part, fielding a total of more than 600 students. Mediation Experience Gordon was accredited as a Mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, London in He has been involved in more than a dozen formal mediations ranging in value from US$ 50k to US$ 1 billion. Confidentiality is key to Mediation and therefore the identity of clients and details of cases conducted must remain confidential. Clients have included high net worth individuals, major US and international corporations and major law firms. His mediation experience reflects experience over a long career in the law and embraces aerospace, employment, construction and engineering contracts, employment, project financing, insurance/reinsurance, intellectual property, carriage of goods by sea, international franchise and company law. The majority of his mediation cases have involved a significant element of cross-cultural understanding and the appreciation and application of international norms normally associated with Public or Private International Law issues.
