8 6 Boston 2004 IPO Annual Meeting Special Events Guest Tour: Botanical Museum of Harvard University MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 Since the 1880 s the Botanical Museum of Harvard University has been the showplace of the unique GARDEN IN GLASS. True to life glass models of over 700 plant species have inspired reactions ranging from amazed admiration to disbelief. The accuracy of their forms corroborated by botanists, attests to the artistic and scientific skill of their creators, Leopold Blaschkka and his son Rudolf. Their family, originally from Venice, included numerous artistic technicians who had, through many generations, developed great proficiency in the working of glass, enamel and metals. Harvard s Glass Flowers Rudolf, who died childless in May of 1939, was the last of the line. He never engaged helpers or apprentices, and therefore the present collection of plant models is an irreplaceable monument to the principle of consummate craftsmanship. In addition to being a popular attraction, the glass flowers collection serves as a useful adjunct to the study of botany and is regularly used for that purpose by the students of Harvard, Radcliffe, and other colleges in the Boston area. Following the tour, the participants will have time to browse in Harvard Square, the most eclectic shopping area in the city. Lunch will be served at Sandrine s, an upscale French bistro in Harvard Square. Participants will depart the Seaport Hotel by bus at 9:30 am and return to the hotel at 2:30 pm. Registration for the tour must be made in advance and should be indicated on the registration form on page 13. The cost is $120 and includes lunch.

9 IPO Annual Meeting Boston Reception, Dinner & Entertainment MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13 The Wang Center Annual Meeting registrants and their paid guests are invited to spend an evening at THE WANG CENTER, in the fashionable theatre district of downtown Boston. Opened in 1925, The Met, as it was originally named, was hailed as a magnificent movie cathedral, reminiscent of the splendor of a Louis XIV palace and was considered historically the most important Boston landmark of the Roaring Twenties. Rivaled by few other theaters in the world, its glittering crystal chandeliers and imposing columns and doorways of imported marble formed an elegant setting for thousands of patrons who came to be entertained by motion pictures, big bands and vaudeville. Following a reception in the Lower Lobby, IPO Annual Meeting attendees will enjoy dinner in the Grand Lobby, with its one hundred foot ceiling, grand staircase, fifteen-foot chandeliers and opulent décor. Entertainment will be provided by the HARVARD KROKODILOES. Founded at the Hasty Pudding Club in 1946, the Kroks are Harvard University s oldest a cappella singing group. This ensemble of twelve undergraduate men has been bringing the popular music of the American era of the 1920 s, 30 s, 40 s, and 50 s to audiences across America and around the globe for The Harvard Krokodiloes more than half a century. Their fine musicianship and youthful energy combined with their unique blend of snappy choreography and witty humor has made them crowd-pleasers wherever they roam.
