1 PUBLIC ELECTED GOVERNORS West Norfolk Constituency Robin Broke Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office) Robin Broke was re-elected as a Public Governor for West Norfolk from February He is a member of the Nominations and Remuneration sub-committee. Born near Swaffham, Robin now lives at Bircham, so the QEH has always been part of his life. He served in the British Army for 31 years. Whilst serving on the Management Board of King Edward VII's Hospital in London for two years he was actively involved in advising how care could be delivered better to patients. Subsequently he was a national Trade Association Chief Executive which gave him exposure to dealing with financial and strategic issues. He is a member of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee. Steve Clark Public Governor for West Norfolk (second term of office) Steve Clark was re-elected as public Governor for West Norfolk from February Steve lives in Stoke Ferry and has recently retired. He has spent his career in the housing profession and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. As well as working in local government as director of housing, he has taught housing qualifications and social studies at Southampton University. Steve has previously been a board member of Swaythling Housing Society. He is a volunteer with MIND and the Swaffham and Litcham home hospice support. He is a member of both the Patient Experience and Business Committees. Simon Clarke Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office) Simon Clarke was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February Simon has worked in the NHS as a nurse, a manager and with commissioners for over forty years, the last 29 in West Lynn. Simon has been a board member and chair of the Royal College of Nursing. He was part of the Department of Health working group for Quality and Outcomes and NHS payment systems. He is currently a board member for a psychotherapy organisation and Trustee of a local mental health charity. He continues to support the work of commissioners, work as a nurse psychotherapist and enjoys his time at Hospital radio Lynn. Page 1 of 11
2 Esmé Corner OBE Public (& Lead) Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office) Esmé Corner was re-elected as Public Governor in February Esmé has lived with her family in Heacham for the past thirty five years and before retirement, was the Head teacher of two schools in West Norfolk. Esmé Chairs the Patient Experience Committee in which role she has endeavoured to represent the best interests of patients both individually and collectively. Esmé is also a member of the Membership & Communications Committee, the Business Committee and the Nomination & Remuneration Committee. Dr Jonathan Dossetor Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office) Jonathan Dossetor was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February He has lived in South Wootton since 1981and worked for 26 years as Consultant Paediatrician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He was Regional Advisor for East Anglia for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health from , and also served on the College Council. Jonathan is currently chairman of the Membership and Communication Committee of the Governor s Council and a member of the Patient Experience Committee. Penny Hipkin Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office) Penny Hipkin was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February Her first career was in hotel management, owning firstly the Manor Hotel Titchwell and then Fairlight Lodge guesthouse. In 1976 she trained as a nurse in Kings Lynn and was also Chairman of Headway Kings Lynn until She retired in 2004 as a Sister in the Critical / Coronary Care Unit. Currently Penny is Honorary Treasurer of QEH League of Friends. Penny is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees. Page 2 of 11
3 Dr Robert Outred - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office) Robert Outred was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February Robert founded The Woottons Surgery in 1985 and gradually built it up to a three doctor practice with full ancillary staff and provided a wide range of specialised clinics for patients. For 17 years he also worked two sessions per week as a psychiatrist at The Fermoy Unit. He has, therefore, experience of both primary and secondary care. As a governor he will represent the views of the patients to the board of directors at this time of severe budgetary constraint. Robert is particularly interested in the provision of mental healthcare services. Dr Barrie Taylor Public Governor for West Norfolk (third term of office) Barrie Taylor was re-elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February Barrie retired as Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the QEH in 2004, a post held for 30 years and from private practice at the Sandringham Hospital in In his time at the QEH he pioneered epidural analgesia in labour and the colposcopy service. Barry has lived in South Creake with his wife and family for 30 years and has a daughter who is a nurse. He has involved himself in local affairs by being a member of the Parochial Church Council and a Trustee of a local Musical Trust. Barrie is a member of the Patient Experience Committee. Dr Peter Tasker - Public Governor for West Norfolk (first term of office) Peter Tasker was elected as Public Governor for West Norfolk from February He retired after 33 years as a local GP with a specialist interest in diabetes and a further 3 years as the Macmillan GP for West Norfolk when he enjoyed working with many stakeholders to develop services for cancer and end of life care. Peter feels a degree of understanding and empathy for patients and staff is essential for the local health economy. He understands the wider NHS and is particularly keen to encourage links between general practice and secondary care. He is committed to the future of national and local health care and feels the QEH and its services are extremely important to the local population given the rurality of West Norfolk. Page 3 of 11
4 Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England Constituency Clive Monk Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (second term of office) Clive Monk began his second term of office as Public Governor for Breckland from February Clive has 38 years of managerial experience from junior to senior level and has been involved in training for the last 16 years. This has included developing and teaching courses including Hygiene, Health and Safety and Management. Clive has a daughter who is training to be a nurse and is particularly interested in working with old people, specialising in dementia and End of Life care and this has raised his awareness of the importance of providing the best care possible to patients with these needs. Clive is a member of both the Patient Experience and Business Committees. Patricia Tickner Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England (first term of office) Patricia Tickner became a Public Governor for Breckland, North Norfolk and Rest of England from February Born in Kent, Patricia lived in Australia for 10 years, is now living in the March area. She worked mainly in the family home until the death of her husband in 2002 who was a Charge nurse for those with learning disabilities. She has 4 children, the eldest being a Doctor in Australia and the third was a nurse until her marriage. Recently retired from a Housing Association Board having completed nine years, Patricia was drawn to the role of hospital governor as being disabled herself and with her family background in healthcare, seeks to understand and help the hospital in serving the community. 5 Cambridgeshire Constituency Jenny Brodie Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (second term of office) Jenny Brodie started her second term of office as Public Governor for Cambridgeshire from February Jenny is semi-retired and currently works as a part time admin/receptionist in a care home which specialises in dementia. She is married with a daughter and a son who is married with two young children. Jenny has had experience of the hospital both as a patient and as a Trust member of staff having worked as a ward clerk/receptionist at the Fermoy Unit for two and a half years and also on the NHS Professional Bank staff for just over two years. Jenny is a member of the Patient Experience Committee. Malcolm Bruce Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (first term of office) Malcolm Bruce became a public governor for Cambridgeshire from February Malcolm lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk/Lincolnshire border. He retired in 2011 after working in the NHS as a registered nurse for 40 years. During his career he worked in hospitals, the community and general practice. Within the NHS setting he is particularly interested in quality, communications and patient safety. He is chairman of the Friends of the Wisbech Hospitals and volunteers regularly at the King s Lynn Police Investigation Centre as an appropriate adult. He looks forward to representing the people of North Cambridgeshire. Page 5 of 11
6 Betty Lewis Public Governor for Cambridgeshire (third term of office) Betty Lewis commenced her third term of office as Public Governor for Cambridgeshire from February Betty lives on the Cambridgeshire/Norfolk boarder and understands the importance of having a local service readily available. She worked as a State Registered Nurse for over 40 years, retiring in During the last 23 years Betty was employed as the Registered Manager for a Charity supporting people with physical disabilities in both a Residential Care Home with Nursing and a Holiday Hotel with nursing service. Betty plays an active part in the Patient Experience and Membership and Communications Committees. South East Lincolnshire Governors Aimee Hicks Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office) Aimee Hicks became Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire from February Aimee is an academic lawyer (PhDs in criminal law and criminal psychology); she was a solicitor/barrister until Originally from Japan, Aimee moved from London 13 years ago to South Lincolnshire. She has experience and knowledge in law, social welfare and mental health advice and works with several charity organisations as an adviser and an educator; dealing with domestic abuse, mental health and challenging issues related to discrimination. June Chadwick Public Governor for South East Lincolnshire (first term of office) June Chadwick became a public governor for South Lincolnshire on 1st February June was a teacher for all her working life, mainly in secondary schools but also in primary and adult education; most recently tutoring in philosophy for the WEA. Now retired she leads an informal philosophy study group. She has been a governor at three local schools, including roles as Vice-Chair and Chair. June also worked as a counsellor for over 30 years and delivered counsellor training courses for the University of Nottingham. With her late husband she brought up five children in the area. 7 Staff Constituencies Darren Barber Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office) Darren Barber was elected Staff Non-Clinical Governor from February Darren has worked at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for 8 years. He began his career at the Trust as a porter, and then moved to the medical equipment library. He was elected staff side chair in 2012 and still holds this position within the Trust. Darren works in partnership with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital solving staff issues. He also has a very good understanding of the constitution of the NHS. Darren is very proud to work for The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Sophia Buckingham Staff Governor - Non-Clinical (first term of office) Sophia Buckingham was elected Staff Non-Clinical Governor from February Sophia is currently based in Research and Development but has worked in a number of departments in the Trust. She has been a School Governor, a Parish Councillor, involved locally with a special needs school and has been a member of the Carers Association. Sophia was instrumental in helping to keep the diabetic digital retinal screening service in West Norfolk. For this she received an outstanding contribution award from the Advisory Council of Diabetes UK. David Coe Staff Governor Non-Clinical (third term of office) David Coe was re-elected as Staff Non-Clinical Governor from February David has been employed at the hospital for over 30 years; primarily as an electrician however decided on a career change to help the Trust deliver its turnaround project in David was staff side Chair for 20 years and is currently vice chair; his main remit however, is that of Emergency Planning Officer. Dave is a member of both the Nomination & Remuneration and Business Committees. Page 7 of 11
8 Mark Abbott - Staff Governor Clinical (first term of office) Mark Abbott was elected as a Staff Governor from February Mark has worked in the Trust for over 24 years and currently holds the positions of both Chief X-Ray Engineer and Trust PACS Manager. Mark was originally introduced to the Hospital whilst working as a contract X-Ray Engineer, before becoming a Trust employee in He continued working as an In-House X-Ray Engineer, moving into his current post on the retirement of his previous colleague, finally adding the role of Trust PACS Manager to his working remit, on its inception, in Mark reports to various internal Committees in addition to his affiliation to a National professional body. Julie Calton Staff Governor Clinical (second term of office) Julie Calton was re-elected as a Clinical Staff Governor from February Julie has been an employee of the Trust for 30+ years. During that time she has held a variety of roles; starting with cleaning in the evenings to now holding the post of matron in Day Surgery. During her 30 years, the Trust has supported Julie s development from nurse training to the completion of her masters in management. Julie brings her QEH experience and passion to the role of governor. Julie is a Patient Experience Committee member. Nigel Tarratt Staff Governor Clinical (second term of office) Nigel Tarratt started his second term of office as a Clinical Staff Governor in February Nigel has worked at the QEH as a Physiotherapist for 29 years and for the past 10 years been responsible for the management of the Rehabilitation Services including the Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Wheelchair Services. The services he manages covers across the spectrum of the Trust s specialities and some community services. Nigel s clinical work is in the assessment and treatment of patients with Musculo Skeletal problems based in the main QEH Physiotherapy Outpatient Department. Nigel is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communication Committees. Page 8 of 11
9 Appointed Governors: Hilary De Lyon Appointed Governor for West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WNCCG) Hilary de Lyon has been the West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (WNCCG) representative since 2013, previously representing NHS Norfolk. Hilary has divided her time between West Norfolk and London for over 20 years. She is Deputy Chair of WNCCG and Audit Committee Chair. She was Chief Executive of the Royal College of General Practitioners ( ) and Chief Executive of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists ( ). She was ordained as a Deacon in the Church of England in June 2013 and as a priest in July 2014, and is continuing her training as Assistant Curate of the Parishes of Swaffham and Sporle. Hilary is a member of the Nomination & Remuneration Committee. Paul Dansie Appointed Governor for the University of East Anglia (UEA) Paul Dansie has been the appointed UEA representative since April He lectures in Anatomy at Norwich Medical School, UEA. He is Deputy Lead for Years 2 and 3 of the MBBS course. His role involves teaching anatomy to all five years of the Undergraduate Medical Course and Postgraduate Medical and Allied Medical Courses. Paul studied Medical Laboratory Science in Queen Medical Centre (QMC), Nottingham graduating in He initially worked in Pathology at QMC before moving to the Anatomy Department at the University College Cork, Ireland. In 2009 he worked as Laboratory Manager and Tutor in Cuschieri Skills Surgical Centre, Dundee before joining Norwich Medical School in Page 9 of 11
10 Jane Evans Appointed Governor for West Norfolk Carers Jane Evans has been the appointed West Norfolk Carers Association representative since trust authorisation in February Jane has been the Executive Manager at West Norfolk Carers since She also lectures Social Policy and is a member of the Institute for learning. Prior to this Jane worked as a Social Worker. She also serves as a school governor at a West Norfolk High School. Jane is a member of both the Patient Experience and Membership & Communications Committees. Ann Compton Appointed Governor for the College of West Anglia Ann Compton has been the appointed College of West Anglia (CoWA) representative since February Ann is the Curriculum Support Manager at CoWA. Cllr Sandra Squire Appointed Governor for Norfolk County Council Sandra Squire was appointed the Norfolk County Council representative in July Sandra is a Conservative Councillor representing Wimbotsham with Fincham Ward. Sandra is appointed to various outside bodies including the West Norfolk Disability Forum.
