2 About Energy UK s Young Energy Professionals (YEP) Forum provides the next generation of energy industry professionals with a place to network, share experiences and hear from industry experts about current issues in the energy industry. The YEP Forum holds quarterly events and site visits. This year sees the first YEP Awards which showcase the best energy talent in the UK. Award categories Leadership The Leadership Award recognises an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. Innovation The Innovation Award recognises an individual who thinks of different ways of problem solving and approaching challenges, and is not afraid to challenge the status quo. Customer Focus The Customer Focus Award recognises an individual who has achieved outstanding results in customer service and delivery. Rising Star The Rising Star Award recognises an individual who has had less than one year experience in the industry, but has already made an outstanding impact. EY YEP of the Year 2015 EY YEP of the Year 2015 recognises an individual, who has demonstrated a real commitment to the energy industry, and combined with their leadership skills, has shown great potential as a future leader in the energy industry.

Judging The YEP Awards will be judged by an independent panel of industry experts who each take a lead on one of the award categories.

Sumit Bose Editor and co-founder, Energy Live News Sumit Bose has been in journalism for over two decades. Sumit starred as a reporter for the BBC and then followed a freelance career reporting for Sky ITN and the Travel Channel. He is the editor of Energy Live News and has overall control of both editorial policy and production. Clare Duffy UK General Manager, ESB International Clare Duffy is UK General Manager for ESB. Clare is a chartered engineer with almost eighteen years experience in the power industry. Her responsibilities include finding ways to expand ESB s portfolio in the UK energy market by identifying, developing and acquiring new power generation assets and joint venture partnerships. Neil Robertson Chief Executive, Energy & Utility Skills Group Neil Robertson has been CEO at the Energy and Utility Skills Group since 2012 following a senior career in frontline government departments including the Department for Education Skills, (DfES) and the Department for Innovation University Skills, (DIUS, now BIS). Neil also worked in the Government Office North East. He has worked with City & Guilds and at the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Lawrence Slade Interim Chief Executive, Energy UK Lawrence Slade has been acting CEO at Energy UK since January 2015.

He has been involved with the energy industry since the late 1990s running the Energy Retail Association and, before that, the

5 Lawrence Slade Interim Chief Executive, Energy UK Lawrence Slade has been acting CEO at Energy UK since January Lawrence previously was Chief Operating Officer of the organisation, leading on retail issues. He has been involved with the energy industry since the late 1990s running the Energy Retail Association and, before that, the Society of Petroleum Engineers. Tony Ward Partner and Head of Power & Utilities for UK&I, EY Tony focuses on the commercial and financial aspects of power generation, with extensive experience across Audit, Risk Assurance and Corporate Finance. Experienced in attestation, financial accounting, consulting and policy advisory, as well as disposals, acquisitions and corporate restructurings, Tony has worked exclusively on power related assignments for 21 years.

Finalists Leadership Hannah entered the energy industry in 2011 through the EDF Energy graduate scheme, subsequently taking a permanent role at Hartlepool Power Station.

Hannah Brown EDF Energy Thomas has worked in the energy retail sector for 5 years, first at Consumer Focus and then at British Gas.

He is now responsible for principles-based regulation, better regulation and European affairs.

What she really loves about her job is the diversity. Every day is different, and she has been given the freedom to tackle both technical and leadership challenges. Hannah Brown EDF Energy Thomas has worked in the energy retail sector for 5 years, first at Consumer Focus and then at British Gas. He has delivered improvements in non-domestic back-billing, Third Party Intermediaries regulation and implementing the Retail Market Review. He is now responsible for principles-based regulation, better regulation and European affairs. Thomas Lowe Centrica Elizabeth Page Nucleargraduates Elizabeth is a nuclear graduate sponsored by the International Nuclear Services (INS), gaining experience within the UK civil nuclear industry. She has held roles as a Transport Operations Project Coordinator in INS; Advisor at the World Nuclear Transport Institute and as a UK-China INS coordinator at Dynabond Powertech Services in Beijing, China. Chris is proud to run London s Gas Emergency service. His team delivers a 24/7 service as well as hundreds of thousands of planned and meter jobs per year. The best element of his job is the people: gas workers are refreshingly practical, safety focused and straight talking. Chris feels that working in a team with this attitude is a privilege and a pleasure. Chris Rison National Grid

With 10 years experience in the utility sector he is an expert in the design and construction of multi-disciplinary terrestrial and subsea cable projects from project initiation through to commercial close. Patrick O Rourke ESB Chris Rodaway SSE Christopher joined SSE s Wind Resource Assessment in 2012 with the challenge of rolling out new Computational Fluid Dynamics tools and processes for conducting advanced wind flow modelling and resource assessment. He enjoys working in such a dynamic and engaging industry willing to develop and adopt advanced tools that show so much potential to generate additional value and certainty over wind projects. Will heads up the Research & Development team which creates products, services and investigates new technologies that could help decarbonise the market and improve how customers use and generate power. 9 Rising Star Working in Demand Forecasting at British Gas has given Benjamin a unique opportunity to build his understanding of the very foundation upon which the Energy Industry operates; the demand for commodities, and how it interacts with and is determined by a multitude of other factors. Benjamin Comninos British Gas Will Heinzelmann Good Energy Will left University in June 2014 and began working at Good Energy in October following a desire to do something about climate change. In his role, he supports marketing, innovation and product specification with a view to maximising brand awareness and customer growth. The best part about working for Good Energy is that no two days are the same. Since starting in September 2013, Daniel has worked in four areas of the npower business Networks, Hedging, Retail Strategy and Sustainability which he subsequently joined in a managerial position. He is responsible for RWE npower s ISO50001 standard; a utilities budget of over 4 million spread over 80+ sites and several other legal obligations. Daniel Connor RWE npower

She is passionate about making careers in Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) more exciting and engaging to the next generation and has worked on a number of STEM initiatives.

10 EY YEP of the Year Jessica Batts EDF Energy Jessica has 4 years of experience in the industry and currently works as a Nuclear Safety Engineer at Hinkley Point B power station. Her job is to ensure the reactors operate safely and efficiently. She is passionate about making careers in Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) more exciting and engaging to the next generation and has worked on a number of STEM initiatives. Susan is responsible for securing regulatory funding up to the value of 1bn to deliver transmission system reinforcements in the South West of England. She is an enthusiastic engineer who is passionate about the importance of using experiences and knowledge to promote engineering and careers within the energy industry. Susan McDonald National Grid In the past year alone, Paul has been able to positively impact the experience of a broad range of customers within three different business units. It is this diversity of opportunity which he loves about the energy sector, as well as knowing that when Centrica delivers, the customers truly benefit. Paul Webster Centrica
