1 North Country Community College Presidential Search Committee Biographies Burpoe, Timothy NCCC Board of Trustees, Vice Chair Tim Burpoe has been an NCCC Board of Trustee member since April 2015 and Vice Chairman for the past three years. He holds a BS in Forest Resources Management from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse and an AAS Forest Technology/Surveying from Paul Smiths College of Arts & Sciences. He works in the forest products industry as Property Manager for the Molpus Woodlands Group, LLC. Tim was a Franklin County Legislator, representing District 7 (the Towns of Franklin & Harrietstown and a portion of the Village of Saranac Lake) for nine years from He has been a volunteer for a number of boards and groups over the years including Empire State Forest Products Association, Sustainable Forestry Initiative NY State Implementation Committee, Society of American Foresters, IPW Union 101 and the Elks Club. Ellis, Melinda Franklin County Board of Legislators, District 7 Melinda Lindy Ellis is an experienced business leader with a forty-four-year career at Corning, Incorporated. She holds a BS in Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and has specialized in resolving complex manufacturing problems as Director of Materials Engineering, Director of Advanced Process Engineering, and Director of Project Management. Lindy has developed and taught leadership and engineering courses internationally. Lindy is involved in a wide variety of community service activities including the Saranac Lake Skate Park, Local Development Corporation and Parks and Trails. She also has been involved with Homeward Bound Adirondacks, the Franklin County Industrial Development Agency and Traffic Safety Board. Recently she helped organize two community discussions and speakers on opioids and addiction. She is the co-owner of a local small business. Farmer, Robert NCCC Vice President of Administration and CFO Bob Farmer joined NCCC in February of 2016 as Vice President of Administration and CFO. He has served in that same capacity over the years at several large institutions in the region including St. Joseph s Rehabilitation Center and Northwood School. He also served as Internal Auditor for the American Management Association for over a decade.

2 Bob holds a BS in Accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh and obtained his CPA certificate in He has been active in the community for many years as a coach for various youth sports and has served as President of the Saranac Lake Civic Center and President of the Saranac Lake Pee Wee Hockey Association. Fortune, Diana NCCC Foundation, Director and NCCC Presidential Search Committee Chair Diana Fortune joined NCCC Foundation in 2011 and is a graduate of the SUNY system, holding a BA from SUNY Potsdam and an MA from SUNY Plattsburgh. In her current role as Director of the Foundation, Diana focuses on philanthropic support for the College. In addition to her work as Director of the Foundation, Diana serves as a member of the NCCC President s Council and as the secretary of the Long Range Planning and Budget Committee of the College Senate. She has been active in a variety of roles with the college over the years including cochair of 50 th Anniversary Celebration from , chair the 2013 presidential inauguration committee and member of the 2012 presidential search committee. Harrington, Charles Essex County Board of Supervisors, Town of Crown Point, NY Charles Harrington has served as the Town of Crown Point Supervisor for the past seven years. He holds multiple leadership positions for this group, including being the chair of the Human Services committee. He also serves as the liaison for the Board of Supervisors on the Cornell Cooperative Extension Board. A retired educator with thirty years in the classroom, Charlie taught self-contained and integrated special education. He also provided academic intervention services for high school students. He received his BA from Keene State College with majors in Special and Elementary Education. Graduate endeavors were accomplished at SUNY Plattsburgh and University of Vermont. Mascia-Susice, Stacey NCCC Professor of English Dr. Stacey L. Mascia has a BA and an AM in English from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY and attained a Ph.D in Philosophy in Literature and Criticism at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, PA. She is an alumna of NCCC and is currently in her nineteenth year at the college. Stacey has been active serving on a variety of NCCC committees including the Curriculum and Policy and Standards, and Promotions committees. Additionally, she has been involved in student activities

3 and engages students in charitable initiatives. She serves as the Chairperson of Circus and Sideshow Culture panels at the Popular Culture Association, and published a book on this subject. Stacey s poems and creative non-fiction have also appeared in online and creative journals. McGrath, Thomas NCCC Social Science / Humanities Instructor and Learning Assistance Center Director Tom McGrath has been teaching at the NCCC Ticonderoga Campus for 16 years. He earned his B.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and PhD in History from the University at Albany. He currently teaches courses in History and Humanities and oversees the Learning Assistance Center at the Ticonderoga campus. In 2015 he received the Chancellor s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching. In addition to his teaching duties, Tom is a member of the following committees: Long Range Planning and Budget, Student & Campus Life and Behavioral Intervention Team. He also participates on the Ticonderoga Campus Advisory Board and advises the History Club. Tom has served as Chief Historian for the U.S. Department of Interior s Special Resource Study of the Shepherdstown Battlefield and is the author of two books on the Civil War as well as numerous articles. Moeller, Mark NCCC Board of Trustees Mark Moeller joined NCCC as a member of the Board of Trustees in He holds a BS from Clarkson University, a master s in public administration from the University of New Hampshire and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS. Mark is currently a senior client relations executive with One Group of Syracuse, NY. He entered the insurance industry after serving twenty years as an Army officer retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel of Armor. Mark is involved with many local organizations including Homeward Bound Adirondacks, a veteran s service organization, American Legion Post 220 and AMVETS Post 710. He is involved with the Tupper Lake Rotary Club, the Adirondack Public Observatory and has served on the North Country Workforce Development Board and the Franklin County Youth Bureau among others. Oakes, Courtney NCCC Board of Trustees Student Representative Courtney Oakes graduated from high school in 2013 and went on to study pre-med at a university for three years. She transferred to North Country Community College and graduated with an AS Health Sciences. Courtney then entered the NCCC nursing program and is currently

4 working toward her Certificate in Practical Nursing with plans to graduate this spring. She hopes to continue on to secure her AAS Nursing - RN and ultimately become a pediatric nurse. As well has her academics, Courtney is very active in college life. She is in her second year as a resident assistant at the NCCC dormitories, a second year peer mentor, and is in her first year of serving as Student Trustee to the Board of Trustees and student representative to the NCCC Association Board and College Senate. Sheridan, Camelia NCCC Associate Professor of Social Science and ADA/504 Coordinator Cammy Sheridan, an alumna of NCCC, joined the faculty in January She holds a BS in Recreational Therapy from Green Mountain College, MS Education from SUNY Plattsburgh, and an MS in Social Psychology from Walden University. Cammy serves as the chair of the Social Sciences Department and has been involved with various NCCC committees and groups including the Executive Committee of College Senate, the Shared Governance Committee and the NCCC Association Board of Directors. She has also been involved with the NCCC student travel abroad opportunity having led or co-led journeys to various countries throughout Europe and the UK. Mary Smutz NCCC Senior Account Clerk, Accounts Payable & Purchasing Mary joined NCCC in 2004 and currently handles all aspects of Accounts Payable & Purchasing for the Business Office. She received the SUNY Chancellor s Award for Classified Service in 2018 and is widely regarded for her dedication, experience and implementing new ideas to streamline duties. She has been instrumental in the conversion to electronic handling of documents and invoices for the Business Office. Over the years Mary has served on multiple college committees, including search committees and the 50 th Anniversary Celebration Malone Campus. She is also involved in a variety of community volunteer organizations. Susice, Lee NCCC Professor of Mathematics Lee joined NCCC in the fall of 1998 to teach mathematics at the Saranac Lake campus. Since 2004 he has been teaching at the Tulloch Campus in Malone, NY, where in addition to math he teaches conceptual physics. He received his BS and MS degrees in Mathematics from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY. Lee has served in a variety of leadership capacities at the college over the years. Currently he is the

5 President of the faculty and non-teaching professional staff bargaining unit, the North Country Community College Association of Professionals (NCCCAP) and the chair of the Long Range Planning and Budget Committee of the College Senate.
