1 Contents 2...Semester in Review 4...Meet our Newest Alumni 5...Alumni Updates 6...Get Together! 7...Get Involved!
2 Semester in Review Chapter Retreat One of the biggest focuses of our chapter retreat was the values by which we recruit. We spoke a lot about the ideals of the LOK, and how they are still alive today in our traditions and our attitudes. After quite a bit of discussion the chapter voted and agreed on the values we should be looking for in potentials to be: Honesty, Integrity, Loyalty, Leadership, and Self Improvement. With no promp from alumni, these values allign almost exactly with the H.I.L.L.S. acronym of the LOK which was used as a metric to recruit. Winter Warrior For the fourth year in a row in Conjunction with the brothers of Sigma Chi we put on the Winter Warrior major event to benefit the Veterans Outreach Center of Rochester. The event took place on Saturday, February 3rd. The weather was a sunny windy 24 F day with a light snow coloring on the ground. The event raised roughly $1750! With 30+ teams the event continues to grow and become a staple of freeze fest here on campus, being advertized at hockey games with a video promo. The event went as far as being highlighted on united way website, and being ranked as the #6 thing to do before you graduate by the College Activites Board. The chapter looks forward to growing the event in the coming years to even greater peaks with new obsacles, greater advertizing, and of course more money raised!
3 Semester in Review The Shore Foundation The Shore Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by the brothers that live at the off-campus house dubbed the shore. Joshua Geise, Chance Wright, Charles Henle, and non-brother Brian Martens founded the 501-C after Founder and President Joshua Geise looked back at his experiences with the VASTAR in high school. The company aims to collect and refurbish used computers with the goal of donating them to the needy in a world record attempt for the most computers ever donated at once. E-Board The focus of the executive board this semester was moving the chapter towards a third and much coveted Grand Chapter award, while we ultimately did not receive the accolade, the pursuit led us to many chapter-wide improvements to the bylaws and general operations. The semester was filled with ambitious initiatives like vice president Joe Hedges s committee ranking system to determine the efficiency of individual but hard to compare committees. Other changes this semester included the introduction of the committee of the month and brother of the month scholarships through the Rochester Theta Corporation, and a big push in prioritizing academics to increase the chapter GPA. Under the leadership of president Jarod Farchione, the chapter managed to keep the charter for the 26th year and hopefully many more to come. As the executive board looks forward to the future the focus will shift from grand chapter to a revitalized look at recruitment, bringing in better men through new and creative rush events and new strategies.
4 Where are our Brothers? CO-OP This past semester we had brothers all around the country for some of the most prestigious companies in America, such as Johnson & Johnson, and Welch Allyn. Brother Nate Bracalente was on co-op at SpaceX this past semester (pictured below) as a mechanical engineer. This sees a number of brothers on co-op as well with Emmanuel Okafor working at Intel in Boston and Jarod Farchione on Co-op in Silicon Valley. Tommy DiMauro Worked for the PAR Government Systems Corporation this past semester. Our Newest Alumni Our most recent New York Theta graduates are moving on from the undergraduate life and taking the steps into their futures. This semester we had 4 seniors graduate and leave RIT. Dylan Boberg graduated with his degree in Electrical Engineering, he is now working in Baltimore for the National Security Agency. Aaron Lipp graduated with his degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and is now working as a software engineer at Rodinia Solutions LLC with former president Matt Chabot. Joshua James Graduated with his degree in Software Engineering. Luc Belikis graduated with his degree in Mechanical Engineering and is now working in Ithica New York. Meanwhile, Chance Wright and Josh Geise both graduated but are staying at RIT for Graduate Studies.

8 Rob Parada Leadership Fund [This message was sent on behalf of Brother Tom Jefferson] Brothers and Friends of Phi Kappa Psi, In the 25th anniversary of the founding of the New York Theta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi - the ROBERT PARADA ENDOWED STUDENT LEADERSHIP FUND was established to provide support to undergraduate RIT students who are brothers of our Fraternity. The impacts of Rob s contributions and service to the Fraternity in the past 25 years are without equal and have directly led to the unprecedented success of the chapter. The creation of this endowed fund will ensure that Rob s efforts are recognized forever. The only purpose and use of the Fund established in Rob s name will be to provide student support for travel or other non-tuition expenses associated with their education or field of study, such as attendance at conferences, preferences or other opportunities related to educational leadership development. In order for our undergraduate brothers to benefit from this fund, it must first become endowed. Endowed status will be realized when we reach total commitments of $25,000. Once endowed, the funds will be invested and the interest awarded to a student on an annual, ongoing basis, permanently. I would like to personally thank all of you who have contributed to this effort. To date, we have raised just over $8000. For those who have not yet contributed, please consider doing so, to reach a goal of raising $25,000 by August 2020! Our time at RIT in Phi Kappa Psi gave us the opportunity to grow and develop as leaders and men of character, and resulted in lifelong friendships and memories. Let s follow Rob s example by endowing a fund that will forever provide for Phi Psi undergraduates to become the leaders of future generations. The larger the endowment grows, the more brothers we will be able to assist. Please consider making a gift today. Anyone can contribute, and gifts of all sizes are welcome. Gifts can be made online at makeagift (select Your gift. Your choice and then search for Robert F. Parada Endowed Scholarship Fund in the popup). You can make a one-time donation, or sign up for several recurring contributions. For donations by check, please fill out this form and mail it along with your check (payable to Rochester Institute of Technology) to the address provided on the form. Please reference the Robert F. Parada Endowed Scholarship Fund on the form to ensure your donation is accounted correctly. If your employer offers corporate matching for charitable contributions, please comply with your company s donation procedure to ensure the corporate matching comes through. Contact your company s HR department for details. Thank you for your consideration. Questions can be directed to Linda Miller at or lmmdar@rit.edu, or to myself at or tj78733@gmail.com.
