3 Speakers Janet Trautwein, Executive VP & CEO, NAHU Keynote Speaker Janet Trautwein is Executive Vice President and CEO of the National Association of Health Underwriters in Arlington, Virginia. The National Association of Health Underwriters represents more than 20,000 professionals involved in the sale and service of health insurance and related products. Her responsibilities include oversight of all NAHU activities and primary representation of the association to the media, government agencies and elected officials at all levels, the insurance industry, and the public. Prior to becoming the CEO of NAHU, Janet served for many years as the head of NAHU's government affairs department, working with members of Congress on Capitol Hill and agencies of the Executive branch, supervising NAHU government affairs staff, monitoring and analyzing legislation, writing and revising legislation and developing policy recommendations for NAHU. She has a particular interest and expertise in issues related to the uninsured, long-term care, high-risk pools and health insurance markets around the United States. Tim Shauer: VP Cornerstone Government Affairs Keynote Speaker consecutive years. Tim Schauer joined Cornerstone in 2011 as a co-lead of the firm s flagship Texas office in Houston. He has more than 20 years of government relations experience working in both Austin and Washington, DC. Over the past decade, Tim s primary responsibilities included leading the advocacy efforts of the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, one of the largest non-profit health care systems in the country. In that capacity, Tim developed and managed the public policy agenda as well as guided the government relations efforts on local, state and national issues. Tim s collaborative style and upbeat leadership skills were recognized when he chaired the Greater Houston Partnership s Federal Relations Committee for three Tim also worked in a business development position for Memorial Hermann, which afforded him the experiences on managing on the front-lines of the health care industry. While serving on the Memorial Hermann leadership team, he has first-hand experience in disaster recovery after rebuilding from the damages from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001 and Hurricane Ike in Most recently, Tim worked as a consultant with the Ashcroft Group Consulting Services team based in Houston, focusing primarily on health care compliance activities in Fortune 200 medical device manufacturers. Prior to working for Memorial Hermann, he was the Chief Operating Officer for the Texas Health Care Council, a statewide advocacy group dedicated to focusing public attention on the uninsured challenges to the health care delivery system. In the 1990's, Tim built almost ten years of experience as a Texas Senate staffer to former Lt. Governor Bob Bullock, Senator Chris Harris and Senator Judith Zaffirini where he worked on numerous pieces of legislation and budgets. Tim grew up in Littleton, CO, was an exchange student and soccer player in Hannover, Germany, and attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he received a B.A. in Biology. He earned his Masters of Science in Economic Development and Entrepreneurship from the University of Houston at Victoria School of Business. He is married, has two children, and enjoys playing hockey, golf and biking. Jeffrey Bacot, SGS CBC: President, HAHU Jeffrey Bacot is an experienced insurance professional who started working in the insurance field in 1996 during a high school internship. He continued working during college for River Oaks Benefits and later became the Marketing Director for the Texas Health Care Purchasing Alliance. He worked as a Benefit Consultant for Core Benefits from January 2007 until November 2011 when he went to work with Securance Corp. Jeff is a 5th generation Houstonian and 6th generation Texan. He attended M.B. Lamar High School and the University of Houston. He is an Eagle Scout and continues to help Scouts as a merit badge counselor. He is the President of the Houston Association of Health Underwriters and has been on the board since He is on the board of directors of the Dennis W. Holder Scholarship Fund benefiting the children of Houston Firefighters. He is the proud uncle of 15 nieces and nephews. Page 3

Mike Smith entered the insurance business in 1993 as a marketing and agent service representative at The Brokerage Inc, where he is now the President. The Brokerage is an insurance marketing organization licensed in all 50 states, specializing in life, health and senior insurance products and marketing services. As President, Mike is responsible for The Brokerage s marketing strategy, advertising, operations, sales support, web site development, public relations, and business development. Mike is an active member of: NAHU, NAIFA, BHINI, AALTCIE, Sub Centers and The Marketing Alliance. Scott Kilpatrick - CEO Kilpatrick Companies, LLC Scott Kilpatrick is the CEO of Kilpatrick Companies, a benefits general agency and consulting firm headquartered in Houston, Texas. Kilpatrick Companies supports a broker network representing hundreds of brokers and firms in the local market and thousands of group clients ranging in size from 2 to 1,000+ employees. Scott participates in local and national leadership councils with many of the major insurers including BCBS, Cigna, Humana, and UnitedHealthcare. During his tenure, Scott led the development of quoting, proposal, and analytic technology solutions for small group fully insured and self-funded products. Scott graduated from Columbia University in 2004 with a bachelor s degree in political science. He is a founding member of the University of Houston-Downtown Insurance & Risk Management Center and currently serves as a Director on its Advisory Council. Scott is aon health reform and industry topics. Scott and his wife and daughter live in Houston, TX. Frederic c. (Freddy) Warren Jr., JD - System Executive Memorial Hermann Freddy Warner joined the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System as System Executive for Public Policy & Government Relations in In addition to managing federal, state and local government relations for Memorial Hermann, the largest non-profit healthcare system in Texas, he is also a member of the system s external communications, community benefits and foundation teams. Before coming to Memorial Hermann, he spent more than twenty years as a government relations, regulatory and business development consultant, working in a variety of legislative, campaign and regulatory capacities in more than 20 US states and in Washington, DC., including three years during which he was Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the largest building materials company in the US. Over the course of his career, he has represented numerous clients before federal, state and local elective bodies and regulatory entities, managed industrial development projects, developed strategic plans, and created community investment and media campaigns for his clients. He previously served in senior campaign and legislative capacities for a member of the Texas Congressional Delegation, a Texas State Senator, and for the Texas Lieutenant Governor. Ken Janda, JD - President & CEO Community Health Choice Ken Janda is President and CEO of Community Health Choice, Inc. (CHC), a Houstonbased managed care organization that provides managed health care plans focused on low-income families, including: Medicaid, the Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and the TexHealth Harris County 3-Share Program. Ken is a graduate of Rice University with a bachelor s degree in anthropology, economics, and managerial studies. He also holds a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center. Ken has over 30 years of experience in the managed care industry, holding executive positions with Prudential HealthCare, Aetna and Humana prior to joining CHC. He also serves on the executive committees of the Texas Association of Health Plans (TAHP), Texas Association of Community Based Health Plans (TACHP) and the national Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP). 6 CE Instructors and Courses Robert J Rogers, CLU, ChFC: Bob Rogers is the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Accident Insurance Services (AIS) in Houston, Texas. AIS is the managing general agency for the Texas non-subscription market and markets voluntary/ employer paid employee benefit programs and executive compensation programs. Bob began his insurance career in 1967 as a college trainee with MetLife. He served in numerous sales and sales management positions until 1991, when he accepted a position at MetLife s New York Home Office. Bob retired from MetLife in 2001 as Vice President and National Sales Director of MetLife s Voluntary Permanent Life Division. Bob has been a member of the National Faculty of the Society of CIC since 1985, and has served as chair of the Life and Benefits curricula committee. Bob was named Insurance Educator of the Year in 1992 by the PIA of Texas and was the Watts Memorial Lecturer at the University of Richmond. He is the chair of the Jerry Montgomery Memorial Research Fund (JMMRF) of The National Alliance Research Academy. The JMMRF provides scholarships for college students pursuing their CIC and CRM designations through the University Associate CIC and CRM programs.
