3 I. Remarks by the Committee Chair BACKGROUND: Mr. Nau will welcome guests and provide an overview of the meeting agenda. 1

4 II. Report on the Council of Foundations BACKGROUND: The Council of Foundations brings together representatives from University-related fundraising foundations for discussions of common concern, including but not limited to fundraising, and other topics that support goals which benefit the University. DISCUSSION: Mr. Nau will report on behalf of the Council of Foundations Chair, Mr. Jeff Walker, and provide a report on the most recent activities of the Council, including a preview of the October 16, 2013 Council of Foundations meeting. 2

Presentation by Community Organization Charlottesville Free Clinic BACKGROUND: The Charlottesville Free Clinic (CFC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) founded in 1992 by Dr. Mohan Nadkarni and Dr. Paul DeMarco during their residencies at UVA Hospital to provide a health support system that offers high-quality and compassionate care to the low-income uninsured in our community who would otherwise not have access to care and would suffer needlessly from many routine and preventable medical conditions. They offer free medical care, dental care, and medications for low-income and uninsured adults between the ages of and their families in and around Charlottesville. Out of the 60 free clinics in Virginia in 2011, the CFC is one of only 15 to receive accreditation from the Virginia Association of Free Clinics. Mrs. Erika Viccellio Mrs. Viccellio has been the Executive Director of the Charlottesville Free Clinic for more than 10 years. In 2012, she received the Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership Award from the United Way. Under her leadership, the Clinic created a Community Dental Program to help clients gain access to a network of community dentists that, along with its on-site clinic, provides more than 3,700 visits per year. In addition, the CFC launched the Physician s Partner Network in 2009, matching clients to community physicians for care provided in their private offices, successfully lowering wait times for new patients. Mrs. Viccellio received her M.Ed. from the Curry School of Education in

6 IV. Report by the Chief Communications Officer DISCUSSION: Mr. Nau will introduce the University s new Chief Communications Officer, David Martel. Mr. David Martel Mr. Martel, former director of media communications at the University of Connecticut, has more than 20 years of experience in strategic communication, media relations, marketing, and branding. He joined the University on August 26. Prior to his current role, Martel served in several positions with increasing responsibilities at UConn, including leading the university communications portfolio from fall 2011 to January 2013, interim associate vice president and chief information officer in 2009, and director of marketing communications from 2006 to Before joining the communications team at UConn, he was the senior assistant director of the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research from 1993 to Martel earned a bachelor s degree in psychology and criminal justice from Castleton State College in Vermont and a master s degree in criminal justice from the State University of New York at Albany. 4

7 V. Report by the Senior Vice President for University Advancement DISCUSSION: Mr. Nau and Mr. Sweeney will provide an overview of new fundraising initiatives; Mr. Sweeney will report on final Campaign totals and philanthropic cash for FY13. 5

8 VI. Report on Alumni and Parent Engagement DISCUSSION: Ms. Cindy Fredrick and Mr. Tom Faulders will report on collaborative and independent initiatives created to engage the University s alumni as well as parents of current and former students. 6
