Jeff Hasenmyer, who helped manage the Summer CEO program, said, As part of our financial literacy programming here at Bradford Na onal Bank, we thought it would be fun to allow students to start and run their own business. It gave them real world experience in managing money and allowed them to do something posi ve that hopefully turned a profit for them. We have tried to make the process as simple as possible for the youth, said Kelsey Kendall, who is also part of the program team. We provided everything the students needed to start up the business and even provided one on one a en on to answer any ques ons they had. We provided the materials to be successful, Hasenmyer said. It s a Scam Score One For The Good Guys! With so many different frauds and scams going on via the internet, , telephones, and even text messages, it s a rare occurrence when somebody is actually arrested for the crime. In fact, many of the criminals are from foreign coun es which makes them even harder to catch. Earlier this year, a Greenville resident was a vic m of the Publishers Clearing House (PCH) scam. The resident was informed that they won a substan al amount of money, along with a car. The catch? They had to pay the taxes in advance. An employee of Bradford Na onal Bank no ced the unusual banking transac on of the customer and no fied bank security officer Randy Alderman, who immediately called the vic m. Once the vic m in the case understood this was a scam, we were able to take some preventa ve ac ons to stop further losses, Alderman explained. But more importantly, he added, We were able to look at the informa on provided by the bad guy and determine where this guy was processing his ill go en gains. A quick call to a bank in Louisville, KY, who cooperated completely in the inves ga on which included the Louisville Police Department, led to the arrest of 43 year old Boris Titus. He was charged with the by decep on and was being held at Louisville Metro Correc ons. The PCH scam is one of the most common, according to Alderman. He noted that this scam has been seen mul ple mes in this area, and on more than one instance, the vic m lost funds. His advice? If somebody calls or s informing you that you have won a prize, but payment is required as a condi on of collec ng the prize, then it is a scam. He added, Anyone asking for account informa on or log in creden als to your computer or online banking, is trying to steal your money.
