2 THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT Thank you so much for joining the fight against cancer. By getting your apron out, cracking the kettle on and inviting your friends around for a good old chin wag, you will actively be making a difference to the lives of young people living with cancer with every dollar you raise. We are here to help you with all aspects of your fundraising and by reading this pack you are taking the first step to making your party a huge success! Inside, you ll find creative ideas, fundraising tips and details of our downloadable resources for you to use to get your party started! We re so excited to have you on board and wish you the best of luck with your Tea Party. Again we can t thank you enough, we think you re brilliant! ABOUT US At CanTeen, we believe that no young person should have to face cancer alone. CanTeen supports young people when cancer turns their world upside down and helps them cope with the physical, emotional and practical impact of living with cancer. We re here for year olds at every stage of their cancer journey, whether they re dealing with: having cancer themselves a parent, brother or sister being diagnosed with cancer the death of a parent, brother or sister We get how tough it is to face cancer, because we were set up by young cancer patients in 1985 and still have young people affected by cancer guiding CanTeen at every level.

3 BUT WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN? By hosting a Tea Party, you are making a difference to young people living with cancer - so no young person will have to face cancer alone. $50 will enable one young person to attend a CanTeen Recreation Day, to forget about the daily pressures of living with cancer and to interact with other young people who are going through a similar experience. You can raise this by charging a $5 entry fee and inviting 10 guests - easy! $200 would enable 2 young people living with cancer to have a face-to-face counselling session. You can raise this by themeing your Tea Party as a Mad Hatters Tea Party, asking 10 guests to donate $20 to attend an all-inclusive Tea Party, ask them to wear a hat to enter a best hat competition (ask a local business to donate the prize) and provide tea and cake for everyone to enjoy! MEET JESS JESS, 24 YEARS OLD CANTEEN PATIENT MEMBER Cancer sucks no matter who gets it, no matter how old you are. So many things are hard I feel I ve lost 18 months of my life and I m running to catch up and I m not going to catch up. I wasn t isolated in a hospital room like some of my friends, but I was still sick and I was in bed all day every day for a long time. I feel like my life was stolen from me for a while. There are long term effects as well both emotionally and physically. I wasn t coping for a while, I had a nervous breakdown and ended up in hospital. There was something that my family didn t get, they were supportive but they didn t really understand. That s why I joined CanTeen. I went on a camp just a couple of weeks after I joined. The discussion groups were really great, you can talk about anything and you don t have to feel self-conscious, you can be so open. I can t talk about CanTeen with enough love. The support that it s given me, the people that I ve met, the limits that I ve pushed myself to it has been amazing.

4 A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO HOSTING YOUR MORNING TEA 1. Set a date and location and download the e-invite from our website then personalise and send to your guests. 2. Send out your fundraising page link to friends and family Now that you re registered you can now set up your online fundraising page. Here you can your friends and family asking them to donate towards your Tea Party (don t forget - you can also accept money on the day.) 3. Get everyone excited and post on Facebook and Tweet about what you are planning for your Tea Party and don t forget to and #TeaPartyForCanTeen 4. It s Tea Time time to have fun and raise funds for CanTeen. Tell all your guests about the wonderful difference their donations are making. Funds raised will allow CanTeen to continue to provide programs, services and resources free of charge so young people living with cancer can take back control of their lives. 5. Say thanks -Thank everyone you invited for attending. Be sure to let them know how much you raised and the difference it will make. 6. 5 BE THE HOST THAT RAISES THE MOST No money in the tin, then you re not coming in! Set a fee to attend your Tea Party - keep a note of those who have donated to your online fundraising page and make sure that you have your donation tin ready at the gate to make sure that no-one is eating for free! Just let us know if you d like us to send you a donation tin and we ll get it in the post for you. Price your slice. Let them eat cake! But not before they cough up for all of your hard work. Whether your having a slice of lemon drizzle at home with your friends or holding a huge bake sale at school, make sure you mark up your goodies to get those donations! Let the Games Begin! Ask your guests to donate to take part in some fun activities. Download our Tea Quiz, which will be sure to bamboozle your guests. Or if you d rather drink tea than learn about it, you could play Guess the Blend brew up a number of different teas and see if your guests can guess the flavours. These are fun at home or in the office. Theme it. Make your morning tea a themed party. For example, a Mad-Hatters Tea Party - Get all of your guests to wear a hat and ask them to give a donation to enter a best-dressed competition. If you re at school, why not collect donations for a themed mufti day too! Run a raffle. Approach a local business to donate a prize and sell raffle tickets before or during your tea party. Draw the winners at the end of your Tea Party for a sure-fire way to end your event with a bang! Snap. Ask the company you work for to match the total raised at your tea. Or if your at school - ask your teacher to make it all worth while by agreeing to do something silly if you reach your target! Show your thanks. Make sure that you thank all of your guests, firstly for attending you re event and be sure to let them know how much you raised to support young people living with cancer. 6 YOUR BAKING ME CRAZY If there is one thing better than a cup of tea then it is a cup of tea with a biscuit! Here in the CanTeen office we are crazy about baking (or more so eating the end result). Here are a few of our office favourites and to see more just jump online to Katrina s Mars Bar Krispies (Devilishly naughty... but hellishly good) Ingredients - 4 Mars Bars - 4 Tablespoons of Golden Syrup - Lots of Rice Popped cereal - Chocolate (to melt) Method: Melt the Mars Bars in a pan - preferably in a ban marie (if you have the pacience) - add in the golden syrup until all mixed up together. Pull off the heat and add in the Rice Krispies until all of the Mars bar mix has been used to coat the cereal. Leave this mix to set on a large serving plate - lay the sticky mixture so that it is about 4 inches thick. Melt the chocolate in a ban marie (make sure you wash up the one from before - I ve tried to use the sticky bowl before and it doesn t end well) - then pour all of the melted chocolate over the krispie mix and leave to set. Cut into squares to serve. Sophie s Devonshire Scones Ingredients - 80g Butter (cold) - 3 cups Self-Raising Flour - 1 cup milk Method: Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Add in the butter in small cubes. Rub the butter and flour between your fingers until the mix is a fine breadcrumb. Make a well in the middle of the mix and add the milk, stir the mix from the outside until you get a lovely dough. Now get the surfaces of your kitchen covered in flour, put the dough on the flour - cover the dough in more flour and roll out to be about 3 inches thick. Cut out round scone shapes from the dough and put them in a pre-heated oven at 200oc for about 20 minutes. Serve with some delicious jam and thick double cream...
