2 Career Portfolio The purpose of this portfolio is for you to start building up and organizing documents that represent the person you are and the skills that you have You will notice that there is some repetitiveness in the sections, but you are displaying it differently and this is important. This portfolio is your final exam You should NOT start it the night before it is due You have the opportunity to improve on assignments you have already done. Both the original and the new copy MUST be included into your portfolio (when you go to an interview though have only the polished copy!)

3 Component #1: The Cover Page A heading or title including your name Who the portfolio is being presented to The specific recognition that you are seeking (ie. Recognition requested for: CEO 401 High School Credit Requirements) Date of submission Page border The layout of the page is at your discretion. Think eyeappeal and professionalism CEO 1 cover page.pdf

4 Component #2: Table of Contents 1. At top of page, centre the phrase, Table of Contents 2. List of the components of your portfolio 3. You can choose the layout. Remember professionalism and NO GRAPHICS. Statement of purpose Letter of introduction Life history narrative Chronological record Personal philosophy Personality traits Goal setting Cover letter Resume Mock Interview Appendix of documentation Documentation

5 Component #3: Statement of Purpose There may come a time you want to submit your portfolio to a particular person or for a specific purpose (college, university, job interview, etc.) Follow the guide to writing your purpose for CEO class CEO 2 Statement of Purpose.pdf

6 Component #4: Letter of Introduction Briefly introduces you to the person to who you are presenting your portfolio to At the top of the page, centre your name on one line and Letter of Introduction on the next NOT a formal letter (no greeting, date or salutation) Use the following as a guide CEO 3 Letter of Introduction.pdf

7 Component #5: Life History Narrative This section serves 3 purposes 1) Demonstrates your written communication skills 2) Offers additional opportunity to share significant experiences and insight into your motivation 3) Another tool to explore forgotten or overlooked situation that resulted in learning outcomes or essential work skills

8 Life History Narrative con t One of the more lengthy sections of your portfolio (spanning 3-5 pages) Indicated your growth and development in learning skills from life and work experiences Referred to as narrative because it s written like a story, in full sentences and paragraphs. Use your journals to help you write this section (include these originals with this section journals 2, 3, 6, rapid writing-my family, social life, a time you learned something)

9 Life History Narrative con t Start with when and where you were born, and continue by exploring ANY of the following topics Early childhood experiences Home life Social life (relationships) Education Clubs, teams, associations you joined Times of great happiness/fond memories Times of struggle, emotional pain, stress Accomplishments and skills Milestones Work and/or travel experiences Volunteer experiences Any thing else that you can think of that you feel is relevant

10 Component #6: Chronological Record This is where you Life s Road Map really comes into play For the purpose of this section of the portfolio I d like you to create a chart that highlights some of your learning experiences. Try to include one from each grade you ve been in to date (it does not have to be school related travels, new sibling(s), volunteering, education, sports, etc.) CEO 4 Chronological Record.pdf

11 Component #7: Personal Philosophy Most of us have a personal philosophy but rarely take the time to reflect on what it really means. A personal philosophy is your description of who you are and more importantly, what life means to you It gives you direction because you tend to always lean toward doing what is right for you CEO 5 Personal Philosophy.pdf

12 Component #8: Personal Traits Whoop you have this section done already Simply take the following assignments that you have already completed and add them to this section Personal crest 25 Unique things about me ABCs of skills Essential Skills web-quest Essential Skills Quiz Education and Career Development Planning

13 Component #9: Goal Setting There is no layout for this element, but you MUST include the following A balance of both personal and professional goals Short term: Medium term: Long term: 6 months-1 year 1-3 years 3-10 years For each goal, provide a few details as to how you will achieve this goal the steps you ll need to take to meet it.

14 Component #10: Cover letter Awesome news you have this section completed too!! Please include ALL copies of your cover letter I did offer the chance to improve your mark on this; hence why I need to see your beginning drafts and your final, polished copy too COVER LETTER

15 Component #11: Resume RESUME Get outta here You have this section done too!! Nice Same rules apply to your resume as your cover letter, include all drafts. The most polished one should be at the beginning!

16 Component #12: Mock Interview You rock this section is 90% ready for your portfolio Please place the mock interview feedback sheet into this section of your portfolio INCLUDE a half page noting what you might do to help you prepare for your next interview

17 Component #13: Appendix of Documentation Very similar to your table of contents One page that lists every piece of documentation that you have chosen to include in your portfolio, along with a brief note explaining each item and what it proves

18 Component#14: Documentation Refer to your Chronological Life Record and History Narrative to help you with this section Examples of documents might include Photos (illustrating participation, travel, workplace, awards, etc.) Art work (drawings, paints, photos of sculpt) Certificates and/or awards Cards or notes of appreciation Letters of reference** School transcript (if available) Sample school project with feedback from teacher Sample slide show or other digital works (CD or USB) to demonstrate tech skills Any other material you feel fit to include
